I have been looking at buying a new car for a while now and I think that I am going to go with the 2009 Nissan Cube.

But I think too much about it, and was wondering if I should wait for the 2010 Cube next year?

I kind of need a new car like, now. That is the problem. I either have to dump some money into my junker or buy something now.

What would you do?

Is there any big improvement of the 2010 over the 2009?  If you are planning on buying a new car, and you have the old one needing repairs now, then I would go ahead and get the 2009.

Though the new models should be coming out really soon.

Buy the 09 cuz it'll still be considered new with all lovely warranties, but it'll be priced way better to get rid of it to make room.

The 2010 is the same as the 2009. It's just, a year newer, obviously, but I guess I don't have any reason to wait for the 2010.

Either way, if you get a new vehicle, consider the extended warranty.  I know everyone says they are a waste of money, but our car had a few defects, one of which was the wiring harness (requiring boocoos of dinero to fix without the warranty), that did not become apparent until the original warranty had expired.  It saved us lots in the long run.

I guess I haven't looked into it.

The car comes with a 5 year warranty.

Ours was 3 year, 30,000 mile, I think, but with family living everywhere, we drove it A LOT, and I think hit the 30,000 mark about 15 months after owning it.  The only new car we've ever, ever had, so not a lot of experience, here.

99% of my driving is in town, so I won't put on alot of miles, but thanks for bringing the extended warranty to my attention I did not know about that.

If you're doing that much in town driving, what about a motorcycle or a vespa?

If you have to have a car, I'd go with the 2009, you'll get better deals towards the end of the month...as in next week.  Also get the fax #s of a bunch of nearby dealers and ask for a quote and also get a quote from costco.

Grow up and check the facts and make up your mind. This is a very small decision, don't fret.

yeeeeah, because vehicles aren't a crap load of money.  :/  besides, no one should ever fret over spending a lot of money.

In the grand scheme of a person, purchasing a vehicle should be a small decision. If it isn't and it is a boat load of money for the person, then the person is spending far more than he/she can and should spend. We spend far too much of our budget on transportation needlessly.

why don't you just get a bus pass?

I don't know her reasoning as to why she's not getting a bus pass, but speaking for myself and probably much of the population, by getting your own car, you can save about 3 hours of commute time a day.

Not sure where she lives (Wisconsin?) but some places don't have very good public transportation systems.  I live in a college town in Oklahoma, and for me it would be extremely difficult to get by with no car at all.

Get a Vespa.

Eh, skip the extended warranty and buy a reliable used car. Take it to a good mechanic to get it vetted and spring for the carfax report to make sure you're not buying a lemon.

Buying used means someone else has already paid for the depreciation, and you get a decent car at a decent price.

I think there are better scooters out there for the money then Vespa.

I'm not getting a Vespa or a fricken bus pass or a used car.

I am getting a new car.

I just wanted to know whether to get a '09 or '10.

 thanks for your input.

wowowow, it truly is impossible for people to answer the question that is asked on this site.

schnood, if they're essentially the same car, i'd get the 09.  cheaper :)

I agree with SLO.  It'll be easier to negotiate a good deal on a 2009 model, too - the Nissan dealers will be feeling pressure from the factory to get them off the lot in order for the factory before they'll ship the 2010s, so they'll be more willing to come down in price.

edit - runesplendor already said this.  sorry!
