After a week of snowboarding and not running, I've now been back at the gym for a week...
Sunday, I ran 20 mins, but since then, ive been tired and my runs just get shorter and shorter.
okay 20 mins is nothing, but usually i run 15-20 mins and then bike 20.
But now I run for like 10 and im so tired! What do I do?
A week shouldn't have much impact on your fitness level. Did you change something else in your life, like for example your diet? If you have lowered your calories too much, you may not have the energy to workout like you used to.
Eat better and sleep more.
i dont know what to say.
I eat pretty well. And I sleep average 8 hours a night. get up, work out before the morning..
Your legs are tired from snowboarding. Do a run/walk thing until they start to feel better. I recommend building up your endurance by doing a longer run once a week. Maybe up to an hour or so? The more endurance you have the better!
Try changing the music you are listening to. Find something fast paced that you really like and it will take your mind off of running. Also, when ever the treadmill seems like torture, try jogging out side. It's much easier to last 20+ minutes...
Are your legs tired, or are you out of breath? If it is that you are out of breath, you might have a sinous infection. or maybe just bad congestion. (I speak from experience) If it's your legs, maybe you should concentrate on getting your cardio from the bike. Less stress for your joints untill you rest up a bit.
People are notoriously bad at recovery when they're out having fun - you've had a week of doing unaccustomed high-impact endurance exercise for the legs (holding the snowboard stance downhill) which has pounded the ever-lovin' bejeezus out of your leg muscles.
Take a week off from running. You can walk as much as you like, and if you can get on the bike or elliptical to workout at around 40-50% of MHR it can help speed up recovery by increasing blood flow to the muscles - think active recovery. That's about a 3-4 on the Borg Rate of Perceived Effort scale, push just a litte harder than that and you impact recovery and it'll take you longer to get back to normal.
if things arent back to normal in about a week maybe you should go to the doctors?
its always useful to get a check out if things don't seem right
I agree with melkor, I think your legs are just tired. Have a little break from running and you should be back to normal pretty quickly :)
