Well, I never would have thought staying at a camp full of guns would be the safest place to be...

But what happened is a huge tragedy and my thoughts are with the friends and relatives of everyone there.

amen.

It's horrifying. Obama said it best.

Very sad indeed.

Gos rest their souls, thoughts and prayers x

"If you can't be safe on a military base... etc."  I'd say that people are capable of having a total mental breakdown in any environment and that military bases are no exception.  Very sad for everyone concerned

According to recent reports, the weapons used in the shooting were privately owned, not military issue. And the soldiers are unarmed unless in training exercises, with the exception of the military police. So it's not more fraught with guns than a federal building would be.

Kudos to the female civilian LEO that got him. Good job, girl.

Prayers out for the families of the fallen and the wonded. A horrifying incident of a complex and heart-rending nature.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by this tragedy.

To those killed, rest in peace knowing that your fellow soldiers salute you today and always.

I hope your friends are all ok. My dad was there for 6 months before he went to Iraq. Never before have I been grateful that he is overseas.

My heartfelt prayers and my thoughts go out to those victims and their families.

Reports are that the shooter is a mental health professional, and speculation is that he didn't want to face deployment because of what he had heard from other soldiers while he was counseling them.  I've also read he had been harrassed for being Muslim.

We cannot just pay attention to the scars on the outside.

Support the mental health of our soldiers!

Both my uncle and my cousin work on that base. It took us a long time yesterday to hear from them and make sure that they were alright, but in fact, they are.

My heart goes out to all the families that weren't as lucky as ours was.

Also, soldiers need to be willing to lower their pride and ask for help. My cousin returned from Baghdad (infantry-- horrid job) and has a bad case of PTSD but refuses to ask for help. He's a terrifying person to be around. I'm worried he's going to snap one day and kill someone (out of duty).

I agree! I also think they should have mandatory counseling for at least 6 months after returning home.
