I have tried just about ALL of the advise from this site, with no luck. I have cut back on the calories, increased the water and exercise. That included "mixing it up" a bit. I have added an hour pilates class twice a week to my walking schedule of a minimum of 30mins to an hour; 4 times a week. Sometimes less if I am simply fatigued, which occurs often.
I still keep at it, but the weight is NOT MOVING. I have even visited my doctor to see if it were a medical problem. Can anyone offer any suggestions to "jumpstart" a 2yr plateau??
What are your stats and how much have you been eating.
Maybe 1500-1800 cals daily. What stats would that be?
age/height/weight/how many calories you eating/how many calories are you burning? That sort of stats. :)
We'll help ya figure this out
~H~
I got all but the "cals burned". Never have been able to figure that part!!
Let's see, 40/5'8/260. Cals on a high end, 1800. Oh, and THANKS u guys!!
Sorry - we asked for your stats, but didn't check back.
If you are lightly active (walking for 30 min, 4/week) you are burning about 2600 calories a day, based on CC's burn meter tool.
So 1800 should be good, although you could try eating closer to 2000-2100 to just keep a 500 cal deficit. edit: And don't eat less than 1600.
On the other hand, are you sure you are counting faithfully? Logging every thing you eat and drink, and measuring (weighing food is even more accurate) foods, not just trying to remember and guess "Oh, it was probably about half a cup of cereal"? Are you being diligent during the week, but it all falls apart on the weekend?
If you know you are being very faithful with your counting, it might be worth talking to your doctor, getting thyroid checked, etc.
Oh, no problem. I have had my thyroid checked, I thought once that it may be the problem but it wasn't. I have been told that I don't enough but I thought I increased it enough since I wasn't working out "as hard" as some I work with. I do the "6 small meals a day" but, I guess it wasn't enough. I will keep at it and HOPE it gets better.
Medically, nothing can be found as the culprit. That's why this is soooooo frustrating!!!!
Thanks again.
To be upfront, I've only done Pilates from a video, but I did not find it to be a calorie burner at all. It wasn't that I wasn't putting in the effort - but my lack of flexibility and weak back made it difficult to really get much out of it.
But have you considered trying other exercise. For some people, walking is enough, but you might need to get some more intense cardio sessions and try weight lifting.
I do think that you should be eating more (assuming your counting is accurate), but changing up the intensity of your exercise might do the trick. Biking and elliptical if you can't run on road/trail/treadmill (I can't either) and weight lifting could help.
I have CONTINUALLY heard that I may want to give weight lifting a try. I keep avoiding it. I will give it a try. As for the elliptical, I guess I will take the "For Sale" sign off the one I ALREADY have at the house.![]()
Thanks and I will report back in 1 month!! I will give it at least that much time. Just a "realistic goal"
Thanks for the advise. Off to the races............
I struggle too... I found that eating MORE and lifting heavy weights (NROLFW) plus a spin class 3x/week got me losing again. Try it and let us know next month!
Thanks. I will. I have never tried a Spinnin class. Im in for a treat!!!!![]()
There was an article in Runner's World kind of along these same lines. The person upped her healthy fats and saw a decrease on the scale. May be worth a shot to read the article. It was in this months magazine, I believe.
Thanks. I will

Trust me, weight lifting will make a WORLD of difference. It's kinda intimidating at first, but you will soon grow to love it. It may make you gain a few pounds initially, but the inches will just fly off.
Trust me, you will love it!
