I dunno how it happened...but now i am almost 200lbs. a year ago i was 125.... i need some kind of plan i can stick to, or some kind of motivation...... I just feel so horrible about myself, none of my clothes even fit me anymore, and to make it worse, my job entails me to look good and show off my body i need to lose weight or find another job.........i guess im just hopeing if i start reaching out to people it will help me....i duno :(

Hey nicole,

Trust me, we all know how you feel. I just started my diet 5 weeks ago, and the cravings are intense for me as well.

I have found a way to satsify those cravings while still staying within my calorie limit for the day. It's all about choices. For example; I'll choose to have my lunch or dinner without that piece of toast with butter. This way, if I'm craving ice cream after dinner - I can have a scoop without feeling guilty and still staying within my calorie limits for the day. Those extra things we add to our dishes really add up. Toast with butter is an additional 120 calories. Cheese on my broccoli can add up to as much as 150 additional calories. If I avoid these "extras" when I'm not craving them - Then I can satisfy my cravings later while still staying with my calorie limit.

I just started on this website but as far as I can tell it's a great place to connect with people who are going through the same things that you are.

I thought the first month of this diet would kill me. But if you can make it through those first 4 weeks... It gets easier. I've lost 10 lbs already (about 2 lbs a week). Considering the fact that you've gained 75lbs in such a short period of time, I'd imagine that you'll start to see results pretty quickly once you begin. Seeing those first 5lbs melt away is a huge motivator to keep on going.

Best of luck to you!

Not easy but possible.  It is all state of mind.  Bottom line, you must consume less calories than you are naturally burning (providing you are not really exercising).  So, enter EVERYTHING you eat, everyday, and compare the burn with the consumption.  BTW, feeling a bit hungry sometimes until the next meal or morning is fine.

You can eat only your junk food but not as much.  Not the greatest idea but if you count those calories, you can actually lose weight eating the crap.

Best way is to budget for the junk food.  Let's say you burn 2,300 calories a day naturally doing nothing (simply being alive).  So, you have to consume, for example, 1,600 calories as day and YOU WILL lose weight.  The trick now is to play with what you are eating.  In the morning limit it to maximum 500 calories.  Lunch have a Subway 6" on whole wheat, Turkey, with cheese, any vegetables in it and yellow mustard (this is what I usually have and love it); that's around 350 calories.  Drink water, plain green tea, black coffee or a diet soda if you must.  Now you are up to  850 calories.  When you get home, be selective.  A huge mixed vegetable salad seasoned with Balsamic vinegar and spices is only around 120 calories (no oil or prepared dressing).  A bit of protein (can of tuna, chicken breast (no skin), piece of steak)...another 200 calories depending on the portion which you should limit.  1,170 calories now.  430 calories left to consume and have fun with (I might have 3 ozs of whiskey one night---that's 210 calories).

This is basically the routine.  If you can have fun with it at this site like I do and stick to it for 21 straight days, then it'll become a habit!  Also great to monitor is the weight graph and the changes in the target date.

Have fun with it and it'll work automatically like magic.

Wink

You might find a new job either way. Though I'm not making a judgment no that. It would depend on weather you happy with what you do. As far as how it happened it's simple. A baby in the house means your home or at work most days. If you are young and slip out it is prolby for drinks and a dinner. Otherwise your activity level is down and your calories are up.

1. Get the junk food out of the house. If you cant get to it, it's a lot harder to eat. 2. The journey of a million miles starts with a single step. Get a stoller if you dont have one and take the kid for a walk every day, weather permitting where you are, or do a step routine in front of the tv. 3. I fought this for the last 10 years but in the end I have to concede: get a food scale and count your calories. I think you'll find that you are probly not eating enough food and that's why you are loosing control.

In My Opinion,

Joe

when i think about it...

i really only eat once a day. but i eat crap and alot of it!!!!!

once a day usually later at night too ill end up eating fast food, during the day just snacking here and there......

i guess i just didnt think it would be this hard, cuz i know what needs to be done but its not easy

Nicole,

Based on your last post it seems you are binging out of starvation at the end of the day, which is not only bad because its bad food but also you will be going to bed soon and not burning any calories!

You must eat breakfast and lunch, MUST! Then your need to eat alot at night will slow down and you will be in a better mood to make better choices.

I went shopping today and found lots of great lunches like lein cuisine and turkey on pita. For breakfast I found oatmeal and lil bars. Then I bought alot of low calorie snacks so I will have Yummy choices. For example I did so good today (below my own calorie limit) that I still got to have 4 devil food cake cookies with no fat milk!!! (the cookies are 97% fat free and only 50 cals)

Another thing while I am thinking about it, I bought myself alternatives to my families meals. We are having BBQ one night so I got a lower cal sauce and will only get 2 tbl instead of what i used to get which was like 1/2 cup of sauce.

i eat later at night becase i am more of a night person and get off work at 2am...

but today i woke up at 4pm.... its midnight, all i have had so far is a bowl of soup and a tim hortons hot chocolate....

im trying tho, i know what i need to do, when i get groceries i am just gonna buy the low fat version of this and that.. and buy healthier foods, start taking unches to work and walking moire... start slow till i get myself off of this bad habit of eating fast food so late at night, and then going to bed right after i judst wish it was easier

Nicole,

I used to do the exact same things. I say "used to" even though I've only been dieting for 5 weeks.... But I've also lost 10lbs in those 5 weeks. So I think I can use past tense at this point Wink

I'm a total night person. Unlike you though, I dont work nights. So really I had no excuse to be up at 3am when I needed to be at work 8am that morning.

My daily routine basically consisted of waking up, no breakfast. Coffe, coffe, coffe (cream, sugar) at work. A god-awful lunch (as I work at school and generally ate whatever your average 13 yr old teen would eat). I'd get off work and usually take a nap. Wake up around 7pm and head to Wendys, McDs, Taco Bell - whatever I was craving. PIGGED OUT (Probably 3,000 or 4,000 calories) - And then stayed up until 2 or 3am (snacking here and there) and did it all over again the next day.

All I can tell you is that it's all a matter of will-power. I haven't had my daily fast-food restaurant run since I started my diet. You just have to WILL yourself to not be put in situations or not PUT yourself in situations that will cause you to make poor choices.

Also, when you're at the grocery store..... Don't stock up on health food and things you NEVER eat right away. Gradually get there.

Right now, the only thing I stock up on is Lean Cuisine or Smart One's microwave meals. I've found some that I love and truly believe are phenomenal.

Don't deprive yourself of your favorite things. Eat them in moderation. Since you're just starting out - Allow yourself to have that slice of pizza. Not two. Just one. And know that that slice probably has 300-400 calories in it.

It's all about calories in, calories out. With zero exercise your body burns (just by being alive, sitting, breathing) about 2000 calories a day on its own. If you cant will yourself to choke down "health foods" that you hate - then dont try. You'll be too frustrated to continue. Allow yourself to eat what you want, but try to stay below your BMR.

Also, I've found that if I cut off my eating time around 6-7pm - I not only consume less calories, but I also sleep a helluva lot better. For you, getting off work at 2am - Try to find a cut off time that works well with your schedule.

Best wishes,

K

You clearly like tasty food.... I'm with you on that!!  So there's no point you trying to live on a dull salad when what you'd prefer is something more flavoursome....  You'll not stick with it if you're not enjoying it.

The solution I would suggest is that you plan your day ahead of schedule, timetable regular meals and do your best to make the menu full of things you'd really like to eat.  Not things you feel you should be eating because they're low-fat or boring tasteless 'diet' stuff.   Genuinely healthy food doesn't make health-claims and doesn't cost the earth either.   A nice breakfast (at whatever time it happens to be) gets you off to a good start.  A healthy packed lunch (include lots of goodies so that you've got plenty to nibble at during the day) keeps the ball rolling

Think of your favourite fast-food meal... then work out how you can make it yourself but healthier.  If you liked KFC, for example.... you can get some fresh skinless chicken breast, roll it in some breadcrumbs and bake it in the oven with a small portion of lower-fat oven-chips and then serve it all with a nice big salad to pad the plate out.  Some fruit for dessert....  Compare that with the calories in a typical fast food meal and you've probably saved 300 or more for about 25 minutes effort.

Walking is terrific exercise.  Good tip... treat yourself to a cheap pedometer, clip it to your waist and try to get 10,000 steps in each day.  You'll be amazed at the difference it makes!   When you're enjoying yourself and when the food's nice to eat, and the exercise is part of your everyday, losing weight is really easy and pleasant.  Best of luck
