1. What's your current calorie goal?
2. How much are you exercising? How long have you been doing this routine?
3. What types of foods are you eating?

I eat around 1000 cals a day normally, but have been told that i need to eat around 1300 so i am trying to up it a little bit. I exercise around 5 times a week, this is uaually going to the gym and running out. I've always exercised similar to this since i can remember, but i dont know how to change it. I make sure i have plenty of fruit and veg, i'm snacking on apples and other fruits, i eat wholemeal bread and ceareal but try not to eat carbs at every meal. I eat low fat yogurts, white and red meats, and the odd desert, i feel its a pretty balanced diet, thats why i can't understand why i'm finding it hard to lose weight.

The closer you get to your goal weight, the more you'll need to "up" the intensity of your workouts. If you're not lifting weights it will be tough to reach and especially, maintain your goal weight.

I don't know your age, but I estimate that your BMR is over 1,400. You're not eating anywhere NEAR that. This is the number you shouldn't dip below. Use a BMR calculator and input your stats, and make sure you don't go below your unadjusted BMR. Especially if you workout as much as you say, you probably need closer to 2,000 calories, if not a little more. So my advice:

1. Eat no less than 1,400. (again, use a calculator to determine what you actually need)

2. Switch up your exercise. Instead of running, do some biking. Or make use of the other great cardio machines like the elliptical, rowing, stair climber, etc.. You can also jump rope at home on days that are too crappy to go out, or dance to either a  workout video or freestyle it with the radio or a cd.

3. If you are not lifting weights, now would be a good time to start. Increasing muscle mass and lean body weight will help you burn more calories at rest. I agree with Vinny, the close you are to your goal weight, the harder your body will try to resist.
