Can't she just shut up? Rant!
Really this is just a rant. No advice needed.
I have a coworker who noticed today that I am counting calories. Immediately she started telling me NOT to count calories and that I only need to "watch what I eat".
Grrr....she tells me all of this while pointing out that she has NEVER had to count calories because "it does not work and is not helpful".
Hmmm...25 lbs down, I'll take that bet!
I am getting more and more peeved at my helpful associates. Every time someone asks me how much weight I have lost they proceed to tell me how to lose weight.
"you know what you really need to do is...."
Are you serious? You want to tell me how to lose weight? Hmmm...do you really think I have lost all this weight "the wrong way"?
*mentally sends extra calories to madamq's coworkers* muahahahaha
irritating!
Sorry to hijack your thread but I have a very similar rant and know how you feel.
I have a co-worker whos also trying to lose weight and while I have been dropping weight slowly and steadly and dare I say the "right way" sensible eating not skipping breakfast so I don't compensate with a mid morning snacks (which was always my weakness), and taking regular exercise. She's constantly advising me on the latest fad diet "you know if you only have apples all week your lose as much weight as you've lost in the last 6 months" yeah- and i'll also be mind numbing bored and lacking in well everything.
I'm not denying myself any type of food as this will just make me want it more, so by trying to eat healthy most of the time I doing really well as avoiding the temptations that use to plague me. But the other day I forgot my packed lunch so went and bought a sandwitch (i believe i still made a sensible choice) but the fact it was shop bought opened the flood gates of her guessing how many extra calories I had consumed, how the butter probably wasn't low fat and going straight to my hips. This was all done in a joval, ribbing, mock laughing as she somehow thought this was really funny, describing the cellulite this one sandwich had probably produced was all a big laugh! All slightly playground when kids try to gross each other out with gruesome tales but I could of lost it at one point.
Where as i'm probably losing around 3-4lbs per week (i feel my fitness is really improving though) she can apparently go for a 15 minute jog and lose 6lbs in a afternoon. Really - must be off her toes because I can't tell!
Just stick to your plan, its working for you and only you know your own mentality and your own body. Just try not to let it bother you, and if you need to rant, rant I would be a major stress head if I didn't sound off every now and then as long as its just that a rant and then gone. My co workers comments have just started to amuse me now, I wish her luck with her fad diets and just continue down my path, if she loses loads of weight fantastic, my choice is a lifestyle choice that i've made to be healther forever not a flash in the pan thing so if it takes time it takes time, i know i'll be more proud of myself and my achievements this way and i'm happy with that.
Well done on losing the 25lbs btw ![]()
People are annoying. :o( I'm sure you're doing well on your own, and on that note, well done! You're doing something great. And you're successful. That's a lot to be happy about. I hope your day picks up. Try not to mind people too much.

Just tell her it is a rubber sandwich. Whatever she says will bounce of you and stick to her. lol
Oooops red face. I kinda have it the other way round. Everyone in my workplace is quite overweight and CONSTANTLY going on about it. They talk about the lastest diets and diet pills and so on so I helpfully piped up "oh I go on this site called caloriecount, it's really good, you can put in what you eat and it tells you how many calories so you don't overeat etc"
Cue kindly indulgent, yet pitying looks and an immediate return to discussing how dieting means you cant eat anything so they don't want to do it. :-/
Fair play for losing 25lbs, seems it IS working after all!
Congratulations on the 25lbs lost - that is great. Just ignore your co-workers what you are doing obviously works.
LOL at the rubber sandwich remark.
I have an overweight woman in my office who goes on and on about how she just can't lose any weight no matter how hard she tries and in the next sentence tells everybody about this great place to get all the fish and chips you can eat and pulls out her afternoon snack of a family size bag of chips!!

YES!!! If I were constantly going on about needing to lose weight I think I'd be too embarrassed at contradicting myself so fundamentally to eat crap in front of everyone!
Madamq - she is probably the same (type) person that when finds out you are pregnant with your first child proceeds to tell you her horror story of how she almost died giving birth (NEVER do that to a first time pregnant person, I didn't sleep for weeks wihtout nightmares!). Lots of them out there, and ya just gotta figure that it takes all kinds and go on doing what you are doing. Sounds like you got it under control AND you found the right place to vent. We all know pests, ooops I meant people like that.
Keep up the good work!
As annoying as the people (usually overweight mothers/grandmothers) that tell you it's just "natural" to gain 20 lbs after you've had kids, and you "look good for having 2 kids", and dieting won't work it never did for them...
:P" Ugh!

OMG YES, that is SO ANNOYING. "Your body just changes when you get older!" "You'll never get back to how you used to look before you had kids."
Ugh shut up! Why do people think they are experts on everything??
I don't tell any of my co-workers ANYTHING!!
I'm just gonna let it hit them in the face one day when they realise I'm not the short pudgy girl in the office anymore.
I have co-workers like that, so I feel your pain.
"You should be eating at least 2000 calories a day, just step up the exercise and you'll lose weight".
They just don't get it.
I agree. Since watching calories and losing 50lbs (I'm 6'2" was 238 but now at 188 and holding for the past 3 months) I'm in great shape and just passed a physical. I'm ticked off because people say I'm "too thin". A year ago did anyone ever say "you're too heavy"? No.
My experience is like yours where everyone has an opinion on what I could do better even though I'm in shape, brought my BP and Cholesterol down, and feel wonderful. They say I'm extreme.....I don't eat french fries, drink alcohol, or have desserts. But I do have three meals a day of very healthy foods. 2500-3000 cals per day as well. I walk every day between 2-4 miles at a fast pace. They say that is extreme!! Yet most with an opinion don't exercise and have weight issues.
I'm happy and my doctor is happy....all that matters.
And another thing I forgot that ticks me off....
I'm amazed how many people try to get me to eat stuff I have sworn off....like high fat foods, sweets, and booze. Instead of recognizing my success and respecting what lifestyle I have chosen they try to challenge me. Unreal.

I bet if they had known you from when you were 188 instead of seeing you lose the weight they would not say anything. You'd just be that guy that doesn't really like desserts. But because people have seen you change, better yourself, and leave them behind, they can't handle it.
People don't know what to do when people change. As Nutella said, they're used to her being "the short, pudgy girl" and they are comfortable with that. Now she's happy, healthy, slim and looking fab they feel like they need to put things back to "normal" by making unhelpful comments or trying to get you to eat bad foods.
Then again, there are always those people with HORROR STORIES, people who always have a better story than you, who have been there and done that and knows a much better way to do it! The only thing you can do with them is nod, smile politely and go somewhere else in your head!
I have a saying that gets me through the day: people are stupid. It can be applied to so many different situations. When people start bugging me, I just say to myself "people are stupid". That's my other place!
I love the evil plotting against Pizza Fridays! LOL
Another thing that gets on my nerves is things my mother says (I can hear the collective groan as you all think about your own moms LOL). Last time I shaped up (between baby #2 and baby #3) I got down to a size 6 and my mother, thinking she was being complementary, would say things to Aunts and friends like: "She's so skinny, doesn't she just make you sick". As if I am just 'one of those' people who can eat 3 tons of food and not gain an ounce.
One time I just snapped "Yeah, I had to work really hard for this too!" Probably not the best response but I was so tired if being treated like I hadn't really done anything when I was very proud of the effort it took and achieving my goal.
(BTW she has been trying to loose weight since I've had conciousness, but hasn't had lasting success)
