Can't sleep well when I work out and cut back on calories
Since I've been working out like a mega maniac, I can't sleep! I lay in bed for hours tossing and turning.
I've had this same problem two years ago and went to my doc who prescribed Ambien. Like I said then, I ain't putting Ambien into my body.
My friend suggested taking natural, NON-addictive sleeping aids like Valerian & Hops.
Have you any of you tried Valerian and Hops for your sleeping problems? I just ordered some. http://bit.ly/4gAITk
If you really have a hard time falling asleep, the most you should do is take a tylenol pm or maybe a benedryl. I wouldn't take something every night though.. talk to your doctor. They may not even put you on a medication, maybe they could just help you regulate your system.
Are you taking any appetite suppressants or water pills? Sometimes I can't sleep if I'm too hungry either.
Nope all I take are vitamins.
I don't like taking prescription drugs and I can't take Tylenol --- but maybe I'll try the Benedryl until the natural supplement I ordered comes in the mail. Thanks *Katesorad.
My friend said the Valerian & Hops (spelling?) will induce sleep because it includes natural root grass and lemon balm. Apparently it's used in a lot of Asian counties as a natural sleep aid.
*Cygnet1975, I don't take any appetite suppressants or water pills. Sometimes I do have issues when I'm hungry but lately hunger or no hunger, I've been WIDE AWAKE when I normally sleep...like now.
What time of day do you workout? You may need to change up on the time of day that you exercise. Getting your sleep is more important than excerising! One thing to try, read the bible! Everytime I read the bible at night I get so sleepy! Satan gets so angry and I can hardly keep my eyes open! Sweet dreams!

This is the first thing I thought too. Are you working out in the evening? If so, you should change your workout time and see if that helps. Exercise can raise your energy levels for several hours after you're done - maybe this is what's happening to you.
get a blend of valerian, hops, skullcap and chamomile.
If you can't, at least get the valerian - its the strongest of the combination.
the pills smell like assfeet, but they WORK. You can also get valerian tea, which doesn't smell great but tastes interesting. Kind of like incense but different. I like it but its not for everyone!
It definitely works, though.

... assfeet...
what is this "assfeet" you speak of?
I supsect the person was referring to asafoetida. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asafoetida

Wow! Thanks for all of the advice!
I didn't realize there was a tea to help you sleep!
The Val & Hops I bought contains:
a blend of natural plants, including:
- 450 mg valerian extract standardized to 0.8% valerenic acid, which has been clinically proven to help promote sleep and improve sleep quality.
- 150 mg valerian whole root, which supports normal sleep while providing additional phytonutrient benefits.
- 100 mg hops extract helps support normal sleep and relaxation.
- 150 mg lemon balm extract for a mild calming effect.
- 100 mg Citrus Bioflavonoid Concentrate.
The brand is NUTRILITE, all organic vitamins. I use other vitamins from the company so I trust that these will work as well!!
I bought the Val & Hops here: http://bit.ly/4gAITk
(if anyone has feedback or has tried this kind before)
I should get them in the mail by the end of this week.
I tried Benadryl last night and it seemed to help. It made me so drowsy, however, that it was hard to get out of bed this morning and I was kinda sleepy all day. Not sure if that was the Benadryl or staying up later than usual.
Who knows?
I usually work out mid-afternoon or evening (between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.). I skipped my workout today because I was so sleepy feeling. Hopefully I'll return to normal soon.
Thanks for all of the advice. I appreciate it!

no. I was referring to the smell of an ass shoved into a shoe. That is what the valerian pills smell like.
HAHA! Funny.
I used melatonin supplements for when I can't sleep. One or two of those and I'm out like a light. Then again I'm super-sensitive to meds of any kind, but it's worth a shot, right?
