Why is it that most all the girls on the young calorie count board are into RUINING THEIR BODIES. "Omg I can't believe I have to eat 1200 calories. Oh its so hard. I feel faint." Gag me with a spoon.

That is not the  only thing that bugs me. A lot of the ppl on YCC just absolutely insist on doing 90 minutes straight on the elliptical and whatnot. I am just so tempted to say, " Are you TRYING to lose all your muscle? WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!!!!" ARGHHHH.

I feel much better. Im sure I'm going to get some comments about ppl saying I'm being too rough, some girls have disordered eating, addicted to exercise, etc. I understand many girls have those problems, but the majority on YCC dont have that problem: they are just simply uneducated and naive when it comes to fitness and nutrition. It just bothers me. I apologize if I offended anyone. Other rants are welcome.

That is why I love c-c.  Young people come here without a clue and after a while they get educated in proper eating and healthy lifestyles.

I have seen many people come here with bad habits and then after a while write a thread about how c-c has changed their life and how they feel better about themselves.

I taught my girls good nutrition while they were growing up.  Many parents do not know how to do this.  They try to feed their children filling foods on a tight budget.

Many teens do not take home ec in school.  This is their learning place.

IMHO every high school student should have to take a nutrition class in high school, but that is my rant.

It does bother me too.
If you don't have disordered eating or disordered body issues (exercise addiction, dysmorphia), and you're doing that to yourself, it ticks me off.

No one, ESPECIALLY teenagers that are still growing, should begin dieting or exercising without knowing how to do it safely.

I never go into the ycc forum if I can help it. I'm against the very idea of it. In my eyes, kids shouldn't be counting calories, so I don't like that there's a forum to draw in kids. Yes, I see why it was created, but I think it ultimately sends the wrong message, especially when it's FULL of girls who are already underweight or close to it & talking about how fat they are. If you're a teen & you legitimately need to lose weight, I don't see why you can't just post with everyone else. & if you're a teen & you DON'T legitimately need to lose weight, your post in the regular forums will be addressed much better than in the ycc forums.

I think that when you sign up for cc, you should have to read something & take a quiz on what you read. & it will include the following: "1) Your net calories are what you eat MINUS what you burn. 2) NEVER let your net calories be below 1200 unless you're an 90 LB FEMALE WHO DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ALL DAY. 2) NEVER let your net calories be below 1800 calories if you're under the age of 21. 3) If you're looking for snack/lunch/dinner ideas, use the Search feature." etc. Then when we see posts with these issues, we can legitimately be pissed because understanding these things was a prerequisite.

well since I'm old enough to be most of the YCC's mom- maybe grandmom I don't go there, but do notice this issue on the Health and supprt site and weight loss forums also.  I've gotten to the point I don't go into those forums.  The fitness forum has issues sometimes as well espeically with the exercise bulemics.

I do hope spoiled candy's comment is true for the majority of these young persons.

I have a daughter ( just turning 19 today) who has been thin her entire life - and has been accused of being bulemic, anorexic and what not- I know she isn't she's just thin and can eat 3 times what her dad will eat and still not gain an oz.

I don't think there's anything I actually "can't stand" about CC, but one thing that I'm not that keen on is hearing a rant like yours mercy_bobcat.

so does that mean you enjoy all the pre-teens "im fat at 85 pounds" BS?

I've posted a similar rant and got flamed all to hell for it...as have numerous others....theres a rant in my journal that people came to flame me for as well....

Makes you wonder where these girls parents/teacheres/etc are eh?

I don't care for all the holier than thou BS that is rampant on this website as well as the abundance of people who cant seem to use google.

There are lots of things on CC I don't enjoy, ha ha ha. But I can definitely stand them.

Lol, I hate YCC. The level of immaturity there just astounds me. It seems like I'm not the only one who is put off by it. =P

There are also certain people here I can't stand... I won't name names. None of them have posted on this thread yet, though. =)

In general, I really like CC and find it very useful.

only one flame remark, im shocked

I do get frustrated by people who don't take the time to read and understand the basics (what a healthy BMI is, how many calories they should be eating, what a healthy deficit is) and then post absolutely FREAKING OUT because they aren't losing weight.

I think more should be done to ban users who are posting inappropriately (ie. seeking out help to remaining anorexic, bulimic, etc.) to force them to get better help.

I also agree that some people on this site are annoying (heck- some people here probably can't stand me.  Oh well) but I just try to avoid their threads and come here for what I come here for- support, helpful advice, and encouragement.

I really wish the health and support forum wasn't 90% the ED forum since most of us have other health and support we'd like to talk about that isn't ED related.

I can't say any  more in the issue which brings me to CC  issue #2: I really get annoyed about the walking on egg shells I have to do around here or else half the posters bust into tears because you used a wrong word, phrase or bruised someone's delicate feelings.

Otherwise, I love it here obviously. I've been posting pretty regularly for over a year!

I really don't like know-it-alls - here, in 'real life', or anywhere.  If you think you know something back it up with some evidence (real evidence not popular media crap) when someone challenges you on it.  Otherwise it's just an opinion.

i'm with spiro: the thing that bugs me most is the over-sensitivity displayed when some people don't hear what they want to hear.  i don't believe in patting someone on the head when what they need is a kick in the ass.  as you may have noticed.

i stay away from the YCC forum and the obvious wah-wah-wah-why-me threads, but generally i think i'm more tolerant of the young posters than most.  i know they're not working with fully-developed brains (hence, my intolerance for adults, who are working with fully-developed brains).

I also get frustrated with people who just post in any forum without paying attention to where their thread SHOULD go.  Don't get on weight loss or motivation and ask how to GAIN 10 pounds.  Don't go to fitness to ask about your gall bladder problem.  The forums are pretty well explained and you'll get better answers if you post in the community designed to help with that particular issue.  Is it that hard, people?

(steps off of soapbox)

I can't say that I've come across anything I don't like in the way you are all discribing, I'm quite indifferent to it all. Yeah I've been flamed, but I either give back as good as I get or just totally ignore it just depends on what kind of day I'm having. If someone is irritating me by something they are saying, once again I do either of the above.

I like CC for the most part, but one thing that sometimes irks me is how every day there's a new person saying "Help!  Eating 1000 calories/day and not losing?!?"

But other than that, CC is pretty awesome, in my opinion. :)

I second that.  Maybe there should be an ED forum...?

I have to agree that YCC is completely ridiculous. Although I am 16 years old, I'm DEFINITELY not 120 lbs...I think I would've noticed. :) I find it simply unbelievable that some of these girls think they're fat when they aren't even close to being overweight. (Some of those girls need to stop counting and eat a cheeseburger.) I don't think younger people typically understand how difficult it is to lose weight when you are actually at an unhealthy weight. The forums should go back to the way they were. That way young girls wouldn't be bashing themselves to other girls with equally low self-esteem.

Wow...I just read there in a thread that a size 8-10 was considered "plus size".

Yikes. What a downer.

It also bothers me to see 14 year olds with food issues...at 14 I was too busy playing outside and running around to care about counting calories. THe world has sure changed, and not in a positive way. :(

YCC was not here when I started 3 years ago, but CC taught me how to eat.  I had no idea that you needed to eat so much to lose weight!  I thought to lose weight you were supposed to not eat so much...  My Dad used to tell me to eat less and work out more to lose... and that going to bed hungry was a good thing.  I wasn't on here more than a few days when I adjusted my eating to be healthy and I have never looked back.  I think that SOME of the YCC's are unhealthy because of one disorder or another, and they need help, and the rest just are uninformed and need help.  I think that yeah, they can be annoying, but patience is what we need.  They need our patience, and our knowledge.
