I can't stand some of these topics. Oh and....

A lot of them are skinny girls trying to get skinnier and that is not what CC is about.  Make sure if you read a topic with underweight people trying to lose more weight, that you point out that it is not a healthy lifestyle which is what CC is all about.

Also, for those that have lost weight, do you feel more motivated and less like a couch potato? I excercise but I still have a lot of "blah" days, and I feel if I lose a few pounds I will feel more refreshed and less tired all of the time.  Post your results. :)
Thanks.

Also here is my REALISTIC goal :)

Starting weight: 130
Now weight: (probably 130, haven't had a chance to weigh myself)
Excercise Time: Running/jogging/walking about 3 hours a day.
Goal Weight: 120 (hell 125 if I gain muscle and look toned)
On average what I eat:
-1 1/4 cups of special K +1/2 cup of milk (for breakfast which is after I excercise).
-Half a sub(sometimes) I can't really remember, I don't always have a lunch, not a lot to eat in this house x-x
-Whatever is made for dinner, but normally way more than serving sizes because I don't get to dish my own food up. Sometimes I'm not made a supper and I don't eat or eat Mr. Noodles...

I will try to keep better track of what I eat all day, today I ate my cereal and for lunch I have whole wheat bread with celeb butter (half fat, ect, about a tsp worth) and a cm(ish) thick piece of roast beef (we had for supper last night) all the fat cut off.
Amen to that. I have had an ED in the past, and reading some of these girls' posts can be really triggering.

Congrats on your goals! I encourage you to do the muscle-gain thing - I've felt so much better since I've starting using weights and working out.

honestly, friend....YOU look like one of those "skinny" girls that is still trying to lose weight.  from your pictures, your frame is VERY small, and you don't need to lose any weight.  if you lose your goal of 10 lbs, you'll look malnourished.

i can see maybe wanting to exercise and tone up, but losing ANY weight is unrealistic.

and for your "diet" or "food habits", they're not very healthy either.  you might try eating some fresh fruit and vegetables, and a lot more calories in general.

i'd check out the "teens: what did you eat today?" for some ideas of how much you SHOULD be eating.  especially if you plan on exercising for THREE hours a day.

OKAY. First of all IT DOESNT MATTER ABOUT WEIGHT DUDE. AS LONG AS YOUR NOT "UNDERWEIGHT" AND SOMETIMES A BMI OF 17.8 IS NOT UNDERWEIGHT FOR A TEENAGER THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

AND YOUR THE ONE THAT DOESNT EVEN EAT HEALTHY SOMETIMES YOU DONT EAT LUNCH OR DINNER?

HOW ABOUT YEAH MY GOAL IS 110-115 AND I'M 5'5.5 AND 17. BUT THAT IS A HEALTHY WEIGHT FOR ME AND I COULD WEIGH 107 IF I WANTED TO. DUDE. I EAT LIKE 6 TIMES A DAY I EAT BREAKFAST, SNACK, LUNCH, SNACK, DINNER AND SNACK AGAIN. SO YOUR THE ONE THAT ISNT HEALTHY.

PLUS WHAT IF I WAS 110 FOR YEARS! AND THEN SOMEONE I KNEW DIED AND I WENT INTO DEPRESSION AND ATE AND ATE AND GAINED 25 POUNDS AND NOW I WANT TO BE HAPPY AND HEALTHY AGAIN SO DUDE YOUR TOTALLY WRONG.

I could understand if someone was under eating, or being an UNHEALTHY weight FOR TEEENAGERRS. try talking to some doctors and doing your research before you say anything dude.

One: My upper body frame is thin, my lower body frame is not, my thighs are fat.

Two: I've weight less and I've never looked malnurished.

Three: When we HAVE Fruit and veggies, I eat tonnes, Yesterday I cut up over three cups of carrots and ate all if it for lunch and then I had Mr. Noodles and three oranges.  My parents buy the food, they don't buy fruits and veggies often so when they do I eat a lot of it. Plus, I ate like a 6th of a watermelon to myself.  Just because I couldn't name everything I ate doesn't mean I undereat, I wouldn't be able to go through my day without at least consuming 1500-1800cals
107 is too thin for your height and age. And Missy don't you dare start talking about someone dying.

I've had my MOTHER die when I was 11 years old, and at that time, I probably weighed LESS than even 100, but as your BODY GROWS and you GET OLDER, EXPECIALLY for FEMALES, YOUR HIPS and BREASTS get BIGGER and over all you weigh MORE.

Don't think you're the only one that has had a loss in your life, lots of people go through depression.
AND to PROVE that I'm not a "Skinny girl trying to get skinnier" I posted some disgusting photos of my thighs.

DUDE!

Have you talked to doctors, or actually went to a NONE ADULT BMI website, they are totally different. A kids nutrition website for someone who is 2-20 and not someone who is like 25 because it is way different. So 107 would still be healthy for me, am I going to be 107, NO because i dont want to be. Would I like to be 110 then gain 5 pounds in muscle, YES.

I do have to agree with her, the BMI calculator on CC is a lot different than the ones provided by the Young CC's Forum.

Touchy Subject.

I have to agree with certain aspects, though. This is a forum for overweight individuals, right? I'm usually a Fitness Troll, since I really am only maintaining. But, being that I'm sixteen, I do wander a bit in here. There's a lot of estrogen in here, so I usually stay clear.

So it's a forum for people trying to lose weight. Overweight individuals. And, bless their hearts, they're doing a hellova good job losing weight. But, seriously, a few of the posts here are depressing. If I was trying to lose twenty pounds or more, I'd find a lot of the topics disheartening.

I do think that a lot of individuals on here have very unrealistic goals. But what can be done? I certainly can't change a single one of them. My two cents is exactly that. Two cents.

These forums are not just for overweight individuals. They are here for anyone who wants to become healthier... be it by losing weight, gaining weight, gaining muscle, improving their fitness, etc.

Ladies,

This seems to be a touchy subject and with great reason, dieting and health is personal which makes it a sensitive topic.

Calorie Count Plus's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management

If someone's goal is within a healthy BMI (for their age) and they are reaching this goal by healthy means (remember, just like the BMI is not applicable for teens the calorie calculator is not either) then they are following CC's mission.

If you ever see a thread that you feel is in violation of Calorie Count's mission or Posting Guidelines, please use the Report Violation button at the top of the page and the moderators will review the thread.  Or you can always send me a private message with a link to the thread and why you feel it is in violation.

If you check out the ~*YCC Forum Rules*~ you will see that I have included the following calculators for BMI and health sites geared towards teenagers.

  • Calculator and calorie information for Teens
  • Nutrition, Exercise & Weight Management for Teens
  • More Nutrition & Health for Teens
  • Weight Management for Kids/Teens
  • I just wanted to point out, however, that YCC does not only consist of teenagers but the 20-something crowd as well.  So various members will need to use various calculators depending on their age.

Also, the YCC forum is an area that was specifically created for the teenagers and twenty-somethings on Calorie Count to talk about anything (almost as long as withing Posting Guidelines and CC's mission) that comes to mind.

One great thing about Calorie Count as a whole is that it is made up of so many varieties of people.  There are members who are trying to lose 100lbs, 50lbs, 20lbs, or even the last 5lbs.  We also have members here to maintain or even gain weight.  Calorie Count is such a broad community and ALL is welcome.

Please feel free to Private Message me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

I'm 5'0 and 96 pounds and my thighs are worse than yours.

So that means I get to diet, and I am NO WHERE NEAR underweight! i'm like in he 45th percentile!

    Yeah kumi is wrong.

Go to this website. It will tell you teens if your weight is healthy or not disregard the BMI. IT COULD SAY 17.8 but would still be healthy!

I posted this on a different forum but were basically arguing the same thing..

I have to still say, as I have said before KUMI IS WRONG.

Go to this website, it will tell you if your healthy or not.

    Plus HEALTHY IS:

Eating 5-6 times a days to keep your metabolism going.

Exercising at least 3 times per week, cardio and weight training.

Eating healthy, portions of protein, carbs & fats.

Not eating junk food, and sugars all the time.

Eating 4-5 servings of veggies, or fruits a day.

Women eating a minimum of 1200 calories a day. They say take your weight and times it between 10-13 is how much you should be eating for example 122x10=1220-1586 <- So between that for someone who is 122.

Teens and adults can weigh totally different, being teens meaning up to 20.

ALSO being healthy is building a relationship with yourself confidence that your body is beautiful, and you should be happy. If you see girls that are 5'0 and weigh 100 pounds JUST remember oh thats like me being 5'6 and weighing 130. So basically you ARE the same weight but you arent you know?

Just because someone weighs 99 pounds means that you can because they probably are 4'11 and you probably are 5'6 there is a total difference and really I dont think that girls get that. PLUS, there is really nothing unhealthy about wanting to be at the bottom of the healthy end? I mean I would work my way down so that if I do slip up that I am still going to be in the healthy end. Thats WHY they make a underweight and overweight and HEALTHY range. YOU CAN go to the minimum healthy preferably probably 3 pounds above that healthy low end so that if you do fluctuate you are not going to be 3 pounds underweight so that you will always be at a healthy weight. You just need to be smart about it and give your body the right things.

Something that might be good for one person might not always be the best for the other person, plus people dont know how you carry your weight. Some women carry there weight AMAZING, but some women dont so 10 pounds on someone that carrys good could look like someone gained 20 pounds on someone who doesnt carry weight good.

    EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.

I do think that eating only once a day is wrong. Skipping meals is wrong. Eating fast food is bad for your body and organs. I think that you do need to eat healthy fat so that you can keep your period. I think that for people that have a problem they need professional help, or need to cope with it because at first I would see girls oh I want to weigh 99 pounds and I assumed no way the BMI says thats underweight but now that I think back they were a teen and it probably wasnt. Plus I use to think ugh they only weigh a 100 pounds and didnt even put into account how tall they were.

Sorry for my vent. I am just so fed up with this.

Some of this is facts, and some of its my opinion.

Kumi, I so agree with you. Well said.
What makes it even more annoying is I know they probably lurked the boards before posting and saw several posts saying "1200 calories MINIMUM". And even that isn't healthy, expecially if you excersise.
I am recovering from a year and a half long eating disorder, and have gained about 15 pounds. I'm at a healthy weight, but is very triggering to see 100 pound girls thinking they are fat and eating 600 cals a day is too much.
There is definatly about a million posts too many about that.

Here on CC, we do utilize the BMI tool to determine if a member's goal is healthy/unhealthy.  Unfortunately, we are not medical professionals and this is the tool that we have available to us.  As I mentioned in my above post, CC calculators are geared towards adults.  A website that we often refer teenagers to is www.kidsnutrition.org

Also, as blackout mentioned, please note that 1200 calories is the minimum for an adult.  Even that is too little for most adults, especially ones that are active.  Therefore, teenagers need even more calories.

I agree with Heather that some people do not take into account a person's height.  But the same should go the other way around.  Someone who is 5'7" should not be aiming for 100lbs although someone who is 5'0" could and still be within the healthy range.

One great thing about CC is that everyone is entitled to their own opinions (as long as they are healthy and within CC's guidelines).  Another fantastic aspect of CC is that there are people of all shapes, sizes, and ages.  If you find a post that you do not relate to, skip over it and move on to the next.  If you think a post is against violation, report it to a moderator or flag it using the report violation button.

Remember, Calorie Count Plus's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management.

What are you talking about.  You are one of the skinny girls.  I am 5'3" and weigh 215 pounds.  I have 70 POUNDS TO LOSE!!!!.....Sorry....but I am a little insulted by your post

    Sara

Oh...and you are crazy if you think your thighs are disgusting.  You look good and you should be proud of your body.  After having kids and putting on 80 pounds, I wish I could once again have the body that I found so imperfect when I weighed 140 pounds.  And, I agree with the people who say you should eat healthy.  This is not only about losing weight but about being a healthy and happy individual.

    Hey Heather!

I just wanted to say that I am totally in the same situation as you! People keep telling me my goals are "unrealistic" and that I am underweight, that I have an eating disorder, etc...when NONE of its true! I looked on that website for kids health and I can have a minimum weight of 87, and people say my goal of 88 is way too low. so irritating.
