Can't stop comparing myself !!!!

Quote  |  Reply

I find it increibly difficult to stop comparing myself to everyone around me. Like, for lunch I will eat a sanwich, fruit, and some cerel bar or something like that and I know that what I'm eating is the right type and amount of food my body needs to function. BUT, I can't help looking at my friends who are just eating a bag or rasins and seem perfectly filled once there done. This really makes me think I'm eating too much even though I know im not. Or sometimes my parents ( im only 13 by the way ) will have breakfast the same time as me and then 5 hours later I'll be eating lunch and I cant help but notice that my parents are'nt eaten until like much later which makes me feel like again, im eating too much. I exercise 5 miles 5 times a week and know that the amount im eating is good but still.... Anybody else have this problem ? Advice ?

Yeah a bit sometimes, like my parents just eat breakfast at about 7am then lunch at 1pm and dinner at 6:30ish without any snacks in between.. so when I'm always getting snacks in between meals it makes me feel greedy but then I remember that I'm eating less overall.

Definately.  I like with 5 other girls, and I'm going out every hour to get more food.  I feel like a PIG but you just have to remind yourself that YOU know what you're eating, how much, etc...  and YOU know that it's healthy.  For example, some days I'm like "oh my gosh, I haven't seen anyone ese eat all day, and I've already eaten 1000+ calories" or "I just ate 400 calories worth of breakfast, and they had black coffee".... but then, when I see them a few hours later coming in with a bag from Burger King or somewhere, and I can smell the grease and stuff, I know that I'm definately being healthier.  Same when I'm at home....  I eat like 3 times per every 1 time my parents eat.  But since I know what I'm eating, I know it's fine.  And I think my parents finally understand that, too; sure I eat a lot less than them, but I eat a lot more often, and it's always healthy.

So just remember-- you are in charge of your OWN body!  Whenever I complain to my mom about how fat I feel because I'm always eating compared to my roommates, she just tells me that they don't think that and they're probably just jealous that I can eat so much and be skinnier than they are.  Not like that's necessarily true, but I like to pretend.  ;)

Comparing yourself is always a bit dangerous. Your body's needs are likely different than others around you. Also, at 13, your food requirements are going to be different than an adult's because you are growing/changing, etc. Your body is simply going to process food differently than someone who is done growing.

Listen to your body. If you are not overeating and if you are truly hungry, then eat a snack. Pick something healthy (fruit, nuts, etc) and eat in moderation. And try hard not to compare yourself to the people around you!!

Believe me, they are NOT perfectly filled on a box of raisins. If they aren't eating proper lunches then they must have issues.. but you don't have to share in them. Congrats for what you've done so far; just keep it up and don't let anyone else make your choices for you! especially since YOU seem to be on the right track, while they are not.

Its like silent peer pressure being around that and it can play mind games but hold on to what you know is right.  Appreciate how your mind is trying to ignore your body yelling, "All you ate was a bag of raisins!!" at lunch or through the rest of your classes.

Your parents bodys dont demand the calories yours does because of their age - theyre not experiencing the development your going through and most adults dont naturally burn the calories they did during their youth.

A sandwich, piece of fruit and cereal bar is SO normal and healthy too - you may influence a classmate who is denying their body the food it needs.  Be strong - you are treating yourself like you deserve.

if it makes you feel better at your age I ate what seemed like massive amounts of food on a regular basis...at meals I could out eat most grown men..and my teenage brother (my uncles used to watch me eat in awe ;)...and I ate constantly in between, I was never over weight or unhealthy, I just have a high metabolism and was very active at that age, and was fortunate to have a mom that taught us to eat healthy from the time we were small. not to mention I was growing rapidly then too...

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't worry about what people around you are doing, it sounds like you eat healthy and exercise, keep it up, it will serve you well later in life
