I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the car this holiday season. I don't want to cut out desserts completely - I've been looking forward to this time of year for a long time! But I also don't want to be slothy and inactive so much. Any ideas on how to remain semi-active while driving long long long distances to visit relatives?

Do pushups and jumping jacks when you stop at rest areas- some light aerobics. If you're stopped for 10 minutes to go to the bathroom you might as well stay 15 more and spike your metabolism.
Park far away from your stops, and get some walking in each way. :D Also, when you're with your relatives, stay active. Maybe play sports? If you tell then you're tired of sitting down from all the driving, they'll probably understand.
hah. great advice, only they're all over 80. LOL I could just see me asking Grandpa B if he wanted to go play football or something.
I like the advice about reststops. That sounds great. Thanks!

I know the feeling I to am going to be haveing lots of car trips....starting saturday a 5 hr drive then on the 23rd (after 5 day's in disneyland) an 8-10 + hour drive (ugh) then the day after chrismas another 5 hr drive to get back home :(
Another thing you could try when visiting family is offering to do chores:taking the trash out, or help people with luggage, setting the table, doing dishes. If you take a few extra steps (why not do some curls with the luggage or trash) you might be able to burn some more calories.
I like to make upbeat CDs and then get my groove on at redlights/stopsigns and sometimes while I'm driving if there's like no other cars around. I don't know if it actually helps, but it's fun.
aw, that's so cute! lol I'm sure my husband could get down with me dancing in the car.
If your hubby's going to be doing some of the driving, bring along a resistance band and do some toning while you're a passenger. Definitely do all the fetching and carrying for the grandparents - score some brownie points as well as exercising! If there are any little ones around play active games with them or suggest a little "dance party". If the old folks go to bed early, go for a walk or a jog.
