Carb Issues
ok, so I'm looking at my daily analysis, and I have a lot of carbs! I don't want to eat so many, but I'm not really eating a lot of things like bread. I'm eating fruit, and vegies, and yogurt. I know they still have carbs, but aren't they a different kind of carbs?
I'm just worried that I'm eating too many! I try to eat as much protien as possible, but it doesn't seem like I eat enough.
Does anyone have any suggestions for really good low- carb high protien foods that I can eat that don't have tons of fat in them?

well remember carbs are your bodys prefereed energy source. so low carb isnt a good idea. But if you want to phase in protien, try eating some meat with your breads, or use more milk with your cereal, just some suggestions.
Thank you so much! It just seems like I eat way too many carbs. I mean do you think i'm focusing on them way too much? I live in NY so I'm always walking somewhere. Whether it's to the bus, or trying to cetch the next ferry. I'm always walking or running.
If you have anymore suggestions they would be greatly appreciated!

What exactly is high carb for you? How many percent?
The whole hype about too much carbs is basically to do with bad carbs...(assuming we're not including freakish diets that advocate like no carbs...atkins etc)...you're eating the good ones. Fruit...comes with fibre, yogurt-has some protein in it. So I dont think you should worry much about it. I think Yepa's asking the right question though. If your carbs are around 55%, thats the recommended amount by the FDA. If its something much higher, say around 70% then you're possibly missing out on the other macronutrients (fat and protein) The protein issue though...try have about 1g protein per kg bodyweight. If you eat meat, getting protein shouldn't be much of a problem...lean chicken and turkey etc. But if you veg, like me, it gets a bit harder. I have soy milk in my cereal which has about half the carbs of nonfat milk and a little more protein. Also I heard that the carbs reported in yogurt are not actually as high...apparently the bacteria (ieew image coming up) eat "sugar" and the carbs in the yogurt you eventually eat are about 60% of what they were when the carbs were at the yogurt-making place! Plus yogurt has protein so definitely stick with the yogurt.I also get my protein from the following low fat/low carb foods: tofu, soya (loads of it...in different forms...soy burgers etc etc). Nuts and seeds - this are high fat obviously but the good kind and they're fine as long as they're consumed within your daily calorie count. Hope thats what you were looking for...otherwise sorry, its quite long and possibly slightly incomprehensible.
Thank you so much for the help! I'm not a veg but I've been trying to cut out red meat. I don't really eat it all that much. I prefer turkey or chicken. but I LOVE soy burgers. I'm a big fan of Morning Star Farms. However I'm a little poor right now, so they're a little too rich for my pocket. But I try to eat healthy. I mean when I do eat bread, it's usually whole wheat. I also try to eat wraps instead of bread.
Well the FDA 'Daily Reference Value' (DRV) for carbs is 60% of your calories.
DRVs for the energy-producing nutrients are calculated as follows:
DRVs for the energy-producing nutrients are calculated as follows:
- fat based on 30 percent of calories
- saturated fat based on 10 percent of calories
- carbohydrate based on 60 percent of calories
- protein based on 10 percent of calories. (The DRV for protein applies only to adults and children over 4. RDIs for protein for special groups have been established.)
- fiber based on 11.5 g of fiber per 1,000 calories.
thank you so much for that! now I don't feel so bad about my carb intake. However it is a little high, so I have to tone it down a little.
Also having a real problem cutting carbs. Purchased the Carb/Calorie counter clicker through "Curves" and they recommend 120 grams of carbs and I cannot seem to keep mine under 170. Very frustrating but I think too much fruit is killing me. Usually eat 3 fresh fruits a day, grapefruit, strawberries, banana, apple or a mix of them and from the analysis on this site it appears they are giving me way too much sugar. I am a huge raw veggie eater and meat each day at dinner but I cannot take control of my weight. It was very interesting to read others problems with carbs.
if you realy want to loose wieght you have to drop carb intake dramaticaly. fruits are carb and sugar monsters have at the most one a day. lean protean only non of that lamb and beef stuff. veggies should be your diet stappel.
