Carbs, Carbs EVERYWHERE!

Quote  |  Reply
OK All....Carbohydrates. Let's chat....where do you try to keep your carbs for the day? What are they and why do we need them?

My answers: I try for 40 percent carbs...higher on days I workout. I know I need the carbs for energy. I try to eat complex carbs because they stay with you longer...but for quick energy, high sugar does the trick. It may also not be in the best of interests when trying to stay healthy.

I really try to eat all my carbs in the morning. I find it helps me get through the day and they're not sitting in me belly all night.

Is there a recommended carb count or percent?
Avoid Simple carbs, which convert to sugar quickly in the bloodstream. You need to add complex carbs to your diet.

*Dont eat a meal that is predominantly carbs. You need to balance the food at each meal.
My carbs are at 54% is that bad?
yeah... you are like me Natash!
I don't really know much about what my percentage should be at on anything, I just try to stay in my calorie range, so this month is gonna be great!!
Hey there slappy, how's it going!!!!
my average carbs is 52%. I want it down to 40% and that is my goal by the end of the month. I was reading that if you try to balance each meal between everything it will work out the way you want. It will take a lot of work at first but I think it will become second nature in the end.
I have been trying for almost six weeks now to get my carbs down to the 40% without actually getting there. I seem to hover around 50%. No trouble keeping the fats below 30%, however.

I agree on the complex carbs (whole grains, mainly), and also get a lot of mine from fresh fruit. Yes, the carbs are for energy, but I try to kind of keep them balanced throughout the day.

When I start off with my oatmeal breakfast, I have to look for those low-fat proteins right away for morning snack and lunch, because that's a fairly high carb breakfast.

Will be interested to read other ideas.....
OK ... I'm at 60% carbs, 19% fat and 19% protein for the last month. :-\ Carbs are TOO HIGH! What can I do to bring that down??
Lol 62%, not 60% ... thought that addition looked funny.
If you're working out today, you'll want the extra carbs for energy. If it's a rest day, then try and eat more proteins. They will fill you up and stay with you longer. Right now, I'm at 47 percent carbs and will eat protein tonight because I'm not working out. If I do go to the gym, I won't mind if the carbs peek into the 50s. That's my take on it.
right now my fat is really high. Trying to boost my protein with dairy and protein is at 24% for today so Im really happy with that but my fat is 58% for today. Carbs are way down...18%. Im planning on having chicken and brown rice for dinner. That should help balance it all right?
I would think that the rice and chicken would keep your fats down. You're right, the carbs will go up as will the protein. Good thinking.
yeah , I entered the chick and rice now and my fat went to 48%,carbs to 28% and my protein is at 24%, now I have to add all the yummy stuff Im adding to the chick and rice!
ok so today Im very happy. I have everything right where it needs to be for today. fat and protein is at 28% each and my carbs are like44%- this is the best Ihave ever done!
Slappy, what have you eaten today to keep things in the perfect range? Chicken & rice for tonight, yum! Got an extra place at your table?
Good Carbohydrates
Carbohydrate (meaning "carbon plus water") is the most widely eaten food in the world. Along with fat and protein, carbohydrate is an essential nutrient, but what makes carbs different is that they are easily converted to energy by the body. Also, glucose, the simplest carbohydrate, is essential fuel for the brain. Any healthy diet must include carbohydrates.

How to Choose Good Carbs
As a general rule, the more natural and unrefined the carb-food, the healthier it is. Also, the lower the glycemic index (GI) value, the better the carb is for your blood glucose levels. So, choose unrefined
whole grain carbs that have a low or intermediate GI rating
Chicken and rice was for dinner last night but it was the left overs I ate at lunch! For breakfast I had an egg white omelette w/a slice of ham, mushrooms, garlic and some shredded cheese, and alittle milk. Plus a slice of toast. Chick and rice for lunch. for dinner Im only having some cooked spinach, I cna eat as much of that as I want! my calorie count for today is 760cals.
I don't know so much about percentages, but I understand that 5-7 servings of complex carbs a day are what you should shoot for. These are high fiber, whole grains, pastas and rice and starchy vegetables like potato. The rule I was taught is that for every one serving of complex carbs eat 1 serving of a non-starch vegetable. SO for your chicken and brown rice tonight, slappy, you should add a serving of broccoli or peas!
well I had refried beans and fresh salsa with the meal. It was like a texmex chicken and rice
