too many carbs?

Quote  |  Reply

hey everyone, i was just wondering if it is bad to eat too many carbs. i'm trying to lose about 5 lbs to get back down to 115. everything i eat is mostly carbs, salads, fruits, rice cakes, whole wheat bread (sometimes i spread some peanut butter on it), and cereal.

as you can see i don't eat a much meat, even though i'm not a vegetarian, but i just prefer foods that are high in carbs.

what do you all think?

It is a bad idea. It will only make you hungrier by making your blood sugar go up and down in a very quick succession.

Besides, being a female, you need to eat fat to keep your period and hormones in order. Even a not underweight woman who eats enough can lose her period through not eating well.

Your muscles also need protein, your system cannot absorb certain vitamins without fats etc. You know the basics.

If you are a vegetarian, you can still eat nuts and eggs and dairy (the latter only if you are not a vegan, obviously).

eating too much of one thing is never good. you need variety! find a balance of fats, carbs and protein that works for you and stick to it. try having days when you eat more fats than protein.. then have a day when you eat more protein than carbs.. and so forth. good luck Smile

but things like beans and nuts are so high calorie...is there anything that is lower is calories but still has a fair amount of protein?

i don't really have a very healthy relationship with food, but i'm trying to work on it...i just have to gradually get myself there.

fashionista01, I've seen some of your other posts, and this doesn't seem like something you should be doing on your own. I really, really suggest finding either a counselor, a nutritionist, or both, since it doesn't sound or look like you need to lose any weight at all.

If you don't have a healthy relationship with food you shouldn't be calorie-counting or trying to lose weight as it tends to make the problem a lot worse.  Try instead to get a varied, balanced diet with a good range of vegetable proteins, fats, and complex carbohydrates.  There are thousands of foods in the world that you can choose from... limiting yourself to a few of them is missing out on one of life's basic pleasures.  Try to enjoy what you eat rather than see it as a number on a calorie chart.

Disc's post is very good. Too many carbs is a bad idea. Maybe why you have a bad relationship with foods. Eating all carbs, in a non balanced way, will only make you want to eat more carbs. Just in the manner that disc's post states.

You need to "balance" your diet with healthy fats (as in nuts) and protein. Forget about the fat intake and the calories. Balance is the key.
