Has anyone heard that if you don't eat any carbs after 5 that it will help you to lose weight. Is this true, or is this just a statement that has been made that really does not matter all.

You'll lose weight if the amount of calories you take in are less than the calories you burn up.  As long as you're getting a balanced diet and eating reasonably regularly (not skipping meals) then it doesn't really make much difference what time of day you choose to eat.

If this works for people it's because on a typical dinner plate about 200-300 cals will come from carbohydrates.  Take them away, the calorie intake goes down.... QED.  Another reason why it can help some people is if they tend to graze in the evening.   If that person says 'no carbohydrates after 5pm' and therefore stops nibbling on all the ice-cream, biscuits, cakes, crisps or whatever it is that's made them fat, then it's a good move.

Personally, I find that an evening meal without some kind of complex carbohydrate.... potato, pasta, rice etc., is a little unsatisfying and means I'm more likely to be looking for extra snacks rather than less likely.  Others find they're quite happy on grilled chicken and lettuce...

Losing weight is only a matter of eating less calories than what you burn (keeping in mind that eating too little will slow your metabolism and stall your weight loss). The exact time of day you eat is exactly important. Most people find it easier to stay full to eat 5-6 small meals a day and it keeps your metabolism high. So there is no rule that you cant eat after a certain time of day or that you have to avoid certain foods. I eat an apple and a bowl of cereal every night before I go to bed and I am still losing weight.

Calories Out > Calories In = Weight Loss.

Other than that there are no rules, only guidelines.

My lifestyle is pretty sedentary if school's out. I try to take in as little carbs as possible in the evening in case they turn into fat.

I pretty much eat carbs all throughout the day. Lmao. I agree with everyone here, it doesn't matter what food you eat just so it's in your calorie range. :)

Eh, well, um, carbs to me in general are not exactly the weight loss miracle... but if you keep whole grains at breakfast, you will have the rest of the day to burn them off!

Thank all of you for your input. This really helps out a lot.
