When you're counting carbs to make up your macro's, is it the "net" carbs you're aiming for, or the total?

For example, if my goal is 55% carbs and I've eaten 154 total with 29g of fiber, do I subtract the fiber from it?

154 x 4 = 616 calories -> 68%

OR

154 - 29 = 125 x 4 = 500 calories -> 55%

Thank you in advance for any clarification.

"I don't count my macro's. I got way too obsessive last time I did that. So I just focus more on eating healthy"

As this was a previous post of yours, just wondering...do you really want the answer to your macro question?

well this is a question i recently asked one of the posters on one of my threads...i personally would say to subtract out the carbs from fiber since fiber adds a miniscule amount of calories.

However i am quite concerned that you said 500 calories = 55%...this would mean you're eating less than 1000 calories which is starvation. 500 calories should be more like 33% to be safe. What are your calorie goals and what were you thinking of trying in terms of macronutrient ranges. It sounds like your goals might be a bit on the unhealthy side but i don't want to make assumptions, just provide useful information.

You're confusing 'grammes of carbohydrates' with 'percentage of energy from carbohydrates'.   If you're counting grammes then some people go with the net carbs thing and deduct the fibre.  If you're making sure that you get the recommended 40-65% of your calories from carbohydrates then you're only concerned with the energy content.

Use the CC analysis tool rather than trying to work it out longhand.... stops a simple thing like eating turning into a maths exam.

Hedgren - Yes, I am sure! I've decided to make another go of it. But I am going to try to not be so anal about it this time, and just stay as near as I can. I don't expect to be perfect. Thanks for the concern though.

Chrissy - Not to worry.. my goals are not unhealthy. I'm aiming for 1,600 with a 55/30/15 split. Yesterday was a bit of an off day. I just ate what I usually ate and decided to check the macro's at the end to get an idea of where I'm at. Probably wasn't so accurate though. I ended up with a fever in the evening and my calories were freakishly low.

Don't have a fever right now, could be the tylenol I took before bed, but I'm still sooo not hungry.
