Cardio/Elliptical Question
I just bought a used elliptical trainer for my house. I had been using one at the gym for about 30 minutes 3-4 times per week previously. With the convenience of having one at home, I was wondering about the benefits of using it sporadically.
If I hop on the elliptical and use it at a moderate-fast pace for three minutes 10 times a day, how does that compare to doing 30 consecutive minutes on it?
Thanks
Prolonged cardio exercise burns more calories. You need to keep in your target heart range for extended periods of time to effectively burn calories. I've heard that the body needs 20 to 30min of (continuous) exercise to burn stored fat. I think working out 10x (3min) is not as beneficial for calorie burning as constant cardio workout. If you can't take 30min straight, maybe you can try 10min (3x) instead, and gradually increase minutes as your fitness level improves.
Please note that I'm no expert. That's just my opinion.
I think you can hop on/off during the day, but when you do get on it, make them short bursts of intense exercise. I read that short intense workouts are really good for fat burning.
There has been some research that two fifteen minutes sessions per day is more beneficial than one thirty minute session. I can't find the link to the research at the moment though.
I'm not sure about three ten minutes sessions, except common sense would tell is that's better than two ten minute sessions....
