Hi Everyone,
I am a new member and have been working out pretty much every day for the past month, and have since lost a total of 9 pounds. I have signed up to do a cardio-kickboxing class this week at my university gym, and was wondering if anyone could provide a little insight as to what I should expect from this class. Any input would be helpful, thanks so much!
I loved my kickboxing class at college! I really miss having that class as they don't offer it at my gym. The class is really dependent on who your teacher is and also how much you put into it. The class I took was amazing and kicked my butt every time (it also helped that my teacher was a former competitive kickboxing teacher and a current figure athlete). Bring water definitely, you will need it. If I remember correctly, we would warm up and for about 40min the teacher would lead us through kickboxing routines so by the end of class we'd all be doing one long routine of about 1.5min. We learned punches, stance, kicks, all that fun stuff. It is just the coolest thing in the world to be able to do a roundhouse kick :) I am sure you'll love it! It will definitely be hard though, especially if you are new to exercising. Most likely you will be very sore the next day but don't let that discourage you. I remember doing a ton of squats my first class and the next few days I could barely walk, literally. But it's a great feeling and all the classes I've done have been a lot of fun and a great workout.
Hope you enjoy it!
After being in actual martial arts for four years I HATED cardio kickboxing because the form was all wrong, which means I wasn't getting what I was supposed to out of it: fun! I think it would be a lot of fun without the formal training
I do a turbo kickboxing class at a local university and I love it. It's pretty much the only way I don't phone in my cardio, especially in the winter.
It's about 55 minutes of nonstop cardio and almost to the end, you do a turbo section, which is high intensity for about 2 minutes. You do it about 3 times, or until (for me) you're a flailing, sweaty mess, LoL.
Spirochete, I know what you mean about form. They'll switch up the routines and when I'm trying to catch on, I'll look in the mirror and think, I am so not doing this right, LoL.

Hmmm, this is an insanely timely post, thanks! I have been in martial arts about a year and a half and was going to try a Cardio TurboKick class tonight! So I may possibly go crazy with the lack of form and 'correctness'?
Thanks guys, this has all been very helpful. Any ideas on how many calories an average 1 hr long class would burn? Thanks!
