Cards
What do you all think of cards?
I personally don't see the point unless you write a decent amount in them. It is especially confusing to me when I get a card that only has a name signed in it. At that point, it seems like you're saying, "I'd rather spend $2 and sign my name than take 5 minutes to call you and tell you what this card is saying."
One of my coworkers circulates birthday cards for everyone, which is a nice thought, but everyone ends up writing "happy birthday" and signing their name, which seems false and imposed to me.
But maybe I'm a Debbie Downer like that.
i actually love cards. for me, it usually takes FOREVER to pick out a card for somebody. i always try to make sure it is something suited just for them. sometimes i think people don't realize the thought i put into picking them out, but i do it anyway. i also usually write a few lines of my own in them, but nothing extensive.
i think it takes more thought and effort to go out, buy a card and send it in the mail than it does to just call and say "happy birthday."
I love cards. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but there's something very cool to me about hard copy, print and ink cards. I think it does take some time and thought (however little) to choose a card that you feel is appropriate for the person/event. Maybe they're not for everyone and I'm sure some don't put any thought at all into choosing a card, but I've never received (and hopefully never given) a completely thoughtless card. I even like the generic happy-birthday office cards. I work in an office with about 400 people; to me those little cards help everyone feel a little more individual and specially noticed one day a year.
And usually, whatever I get a card for, the person who sent it usually talks to me on a daily basis...sometimes cards can express the thoughts better than that person feels they could in conversation.
One kind of card I really love is handmade ones- my supervisor makes the most beautiful cards, and THAT really feels special to me.
i like cards
but i typically do write at least a brief thought or something in a card that i send ... i wouldn't like to just sign my name
even if i just say
♥♥♥ All my love ♥♥♥
xoxo
Nomo
or
I'm thinking about you - Take care!
Love, Nomo
or whatever...
Ironically I hardly ever send cards to anyone because that requires actual effort - but I love making them. So I give a lot to our church and let somebody else worry about doing the sending. I think cards are a nice idea - they say 'I'm thinking of you' and while they might not take a huge deal of effort, it takes more than sitting on your rear and doing nothing.
I HATE e-cards... now THERE'S something that says 'I can't be bothered planning'.
eh, e-cards are ok, but not as nice as an actual card
the hoops and yoyo ones crack me up, tho

Aww, I love those. One of my grad student friends sent me one right before I had to go defend my thesis, it definitely made me feel good to know someone was pulling for me.
I love cards, because while a phone call is endearing, I can pick up that card again and again and again.
They're like miniature love letters, for those who can't draw! :)
I normally just make my own cards, but I'm blessed enough that my stick figures actually look like stick figures, rather than squiggly lines like most in my family....But there are some cards out there that are worth it to buy, i.e. funny ones, pop up ones, ones that sing when you open them...
I like cards what can I say :)
if the card has a doggie on it, im sold.
I hate cards. I worked at a card store for three years. I think that might have a little something to do with it. I have this terrible habit I can't kick of fixing cards everywhere I go.
I think the majority of them are ridiculously corny. It's not really thoughtful it's just some cheesy saying with a name signed underneath. I usually don't read them unless there is a personal note inside.
If you're talking serious cards (you're so special I love you...) and then sign their name then yes I agree. However I think that's why one should go with a funny one.
I only buy cards as a certificate holder. It seems weird to just mail out a certificate. It's like sorry I couldn't be bothered to buy you a card to put this in so it looks a little nicer. Granted I still just sign my name to it, but like I said above at least it's somewhat funny.
certificate? you mean like a "Best Orator" award or a check?
When it comes to gifts and cards, I'm insanely picky about them. If I suck it up and just get a gift card, I get it for some place I know the person receiving it hasn't been to but wants to go, or some place they have been to and want to go but can't always afford to get out there. Gifts are always personalised, no silly littlle bath set baskets from me.
And the cards must match their personality and have a customised message in them. Not a whole paragraph, just a few words to go along with what's inside of the card.
When they circulate birthday cards or going away cards or whatever cards at work, I just write a happy face in them. If it's someone I want to get a special card for the occasion, then I will.
I need to learn to make cards/stationary. I hate buying cards because they're so expensive and so rarely express the right idea. I don't write in most blank cards because I'm not that articulate.
I like receiving cards, it's sweet, but I'm not upset without one.
I like cards but it takes forever for me to find one. I have to look at each and every card on the rack to find just the right card for the person I'm shopping for. It drives my husband crazy because he thinks I should be able to jut pick out a card and go. It never works out that way though because usually it's a matter of trying to say something specifically to the person that I'm giving this card to...not just happy birthday but also how important that person is in my life. I know it sounds corny, but that's just me.

I am the same way Jules! I just bought really cheap 99cent Valentines Day cards for all my neices and nephews. I put a dollar and a pkg of stickers and said Love you Lots! Aunt Jennifer!
I think they get a kick out of getting mail.

I mean like a gift certificate only not ;-) I have "trade" certificates, they work just like gift certificates, but there was never cash paid for them, just services rendered (radio commercial).
