1. How old is your cat?

We think about 14-15

2. Male or female?

Male

3. How much does she/he weigh?

When I got him about 20 lbs, now 15 lbs. Sometimes I think he is just big-boned.

4. Is he/she overweight?

I still think so, yes. He has a huge gut and very well padded rest of body.

5. How much do you feed them and what schedule?

I think he is in starvation mode as I only feed him one regular sized can of wet food a day (half in morning and half at night) with very sporadic 1/3 cup of dry food (maybe every 2-3rd day). Vet recommended even less.

6. Do they ask for more food?

Constantly begging. Hence the survey, I think I might be starving him.

7. Brand of wet food?

I used to go with fancy stuff but he hated it. Using Friskies now. Pate style.

8. Brand of dry food?

It varies, I use so little of it though. I try to find one with meat as it's first ingredient as reportedly cats cannot digest carbs properly and many cat foods first ingredient is cornmeal or somesuch!

9. Cat's name?

Mike

10. Comments?

Mike used to vomit all the time and since I have largely cut out dry food, or certainly limited to small portions at a time, and also once every 2-3 weeks put Vaseline on his paws (for hair balls) he does not do it anymore.

My issue now is with the cat box, I think the poor guy is constipated, he needs a vet visit which I will do soon.

CAT QUIZ:

  1. How old is your cat? 11, well 12 this year
  2. Male or female? Female
  3. How much does she/he weigh? Not sure, she has a chunky little body & tiny feet. Her ability to walk along fences is limited (& very funny to watch)
  4. Is he/she overweight? Nope, just chunky.
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule? Half a pouch of food first thing in the morning, then the other half before leaving for work, then another half in the evening, plus her dry food that's always available.
  6. Do they ask for more food? No, she only meows to be given water then tries to drink our drinks too & licks rain off stuff. Even though there is always fresh water for her both down & upstairs.
  7. Brand of wet food? whiskers
  8. Brand of dry food? whisker or go-cat
  9. Cat's name? Pixie (aka - Pix-Wix, Pix, Pixscelator, Gobby-Gobsh*te)
  10. Comments/thoughts? She's a gobby little fur ball that moults all over my clothes & tries to kill me on the stairs every morning, but I loves her!
  1. How old is your cat? 9 yrs
  2. Male or female? Female
  3. How much does she/he weigh? 8 lbs or so, she's tiny
  4. Is he/she overweight? Not even close
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule? I feed her as much as she will eat, refill whatever is gone each morning, usually only about 1/3C
  6. Do they ask for more food? Nope. I've had to take away her food for a day (for travel), and she wasn't even all that interested in it when I gave it back about 18 hours later.
  7. Brand of wet food? None, just the occasional tuna water
  8. Brand of dry food? Usually Nutro/ Natural Choice, currently trying IAMS
  9. Comments/thoughts? I had two cats until recently, and the other was the complete opposite on every question. He LOVED food, cried for it all the time, was very overweight (about 30 lbs!) and I had to put him on a strict diet (we started out new "lifestyle" together last year, he was not as happy about it as I was lol)...it always struck me how funny it was that they were so opposite, yet grew up in the same home, with the same influences. Now that he's gone, she's less interested in food than ever. Healthy though, so I try not to worry.

1. How old is your cat?

6 almost 7 years old

2. Male or female?

Female

I got Reba at 5 years old and 5 lbs now she is about 6.5lbs

4. Is he/she overweight?

She is perfect for her tiny size.

5. How much do you feed them and what schedule?

I leave her food and water bowl out and keep them full.  Of course they are tiny bowls for a tiny cat but she just seems to eat when we eat.

6. Do they ask for more food?

no.

7. Brand of wet food?

She won't touch wet food.

8. Brand of dry food?

I like the Iams or Purina Mature Cat formula for hairball control.  She doesn't regularly have issues but I think that this is a good formula for an older cat.

Both are male.

How much does she/he weigh?

Both are about 12 pounds.

Is he/she overweight?

Nope, both are good.

Nope.

Brand of wet food?

Fancy Feast

Brand of dry food?

My cats are both on a diet.  One because she need to be.  The other because her "sister" is.

CAT QUIZ:

  1. How old is your cat?  one is 5; one is 2.5
  2. Male or female? both female
  3. How much does she/he weigh? the little one weighs 15 pounds; the big one weighs 14 pounds (no, I did not type that backwards)
  4. Is he/she overweight? the little one is; the big one is more muscle-y than fat
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule?  They get fed canned food for breakfast and dinner (1/4 can each at each meal).  I also leave out dry food that gets added to in the morning and evening.  They need some wet food in their diet; otherwise, the little one gets urinary tract infections.  She gets extra water added to her wet food to make sure she gets enough fluids.  The big one would probably eat me alive if I stopped feeding them wet food too.
  6. Do they ask for more food?  Sometimes.  They don't get it, though.  At best, they might get the evening scoop of dry food a couple of hours early.
  7. Brand of wet food?  Fancy Feast (a brand with teeny tiny cans)
  8. Brand of dry food?  Medi-Cal Weight Reduction Formula  (I get it at the vets, and it's only available if they've prescribed it to your cat.  They were on the Weight Control Formula before, but the little one was still gaining.)
  9. Comments/thoughts?

They're both losing weight slowly - which is good.  The big one is strong and stocky, but she could easily handle losing a pound or two.  The little one probably needs to lose two or three pounds, though the vet was more concerned that she not gain any more as opposed to anything else.  To be fair, she's very very fluffy so she looks bigger than she is - but there's definitely a fat little tummy under that fur.

Their dry food is always measured out with the same scoop so I know exactly how much they get and they're not overeating.  I think stress is the main cause of the little one's weight issues as she's a bit scared of big cat (who likes to playchase her about once a day - except little cat doesn't know it's for play).  That also means little cat spends a fair amount of time sitting in her favourite "safe" spots - her basket in the dining room, the bottom of the cat tree in my bedroom and, of course, my lap.  I try and make sure she gets good playtime every day though - and she loves jumping up after any sort of dangle-y toy.

The main problem with big cat is that she's a Bengal so she gets really really hyper and wants to play and, if I'm not around, she figures little cat should play with her.  While I don't carefully monitor who eats how much of the dry food, I know that big cat gets her share of it - and more than her share of the wet food as little cat tends to leave her bowl half empty and big cat finishes it off.  So, the suggestion (which has been made by various people at the vet's office) that little cat is eating more than big cat doesn't ring true to me.  Especially when you consider that some of their dry food gets crunched into the old bootlaces that big cat is "raising" as her "babies".

Technically, splitting them up would probably be the best way to help little cat get thinner, but I refuse to send either of them back to the humane society - and I don't think that would be good for either of them.  Especially not big cat who is basically unadoptable as she's "too old", "too loud" and "too bossy" - not to mention completely attached to me.  If one moved out, it would have to be little cat and the only way that's happening is if a member of my immediate family had a cat-free house in the same city as me so that I could visit and so that I'd know she would be moving in with someone she knew; so, basically, neither is moving out ever.  And they are getting better at co-existing.  Little cat has taken to hissing/growling if big cat comes too close, and I know to stand by with a spray water bottle if I hear too much noise coming from them.

Despite how the above may sound, both big cat and little cat are, in fact, very happy healthy cats who have staked out their own territory in my house.  They both have their tails sticking straight up in a sign of security the majority of the time and they're both snuggly and purry on a regular basis.  They just need to stabilize their weights and learn to get along.  Or at least to ignore each other more often.

Little cat is my profile pic.  Big cat can be found if you look in my gallery.

  7. Brand of wet food? Fancy Feast
  8. Brand of dry food? Orijen
  9. Cat's name? Butters
  10. Comments/thoughts? I love my cat. She's overweight because she's alone all day while we're at work, so I'm sure she just sleeps instead of getting activity (she's an indoor only cat, obviously). I have a picture of her "exercising" in my profile :)
  1. How old is are your cats?  3
  2. Male or female? both female
  3. How much does she/he weigh? about 10 and 12 lbs.
  4. Is he/she overweight? the 12 pounders is a little pudgy

  6. Do they ask for more food? N/A
  7. Brand of wet food? N/A
  8. Brand of dry food? Purina Indoor Cat
  9. Cat's name? Mittens & Fluffy
  10. Comments/thoughts?  They are both healthy and they are the only cats I've every had that show no interest at all in human food, not even Tuna. They have a water bowl that is kept fresh but they prefer to drink from the aquarium.  Fluffy does like milk an she drinks some occasionally.

Haha my cat prefers to drink from the fishbowl too. Must taste "fishy".

  1. How old is your cat? 8 almost 9.
  2. Male or female? Female.
  3. How much does she/he weigh? No clue.
  4. Is he/she overweight? Yeah, she has a tummy. Haha. But, she's adorable.
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule? I would fill the bowl whenever it was empty. She would let you know by whining. Ha ha.
  6. Do they ask for more food? Only when there's a little bit of food left in her dish and she can see the bottom of it. Then she will let you know. :P
  7. Brand of wet food? Dry. She will NOT eat wet for some reason.
  8. Brand of dry food? Whiskas. It's all that she'll eat.
  9. Cat's name? Noni. (Named after Winona Ryder.)
  10. Comments/thoughts? She lives with my parent's right now since I am in New York living with my fiance at his parent's home until we can save enough to get our own place. My cat could never handle being in a new area either. We once camped and brought her along and she freaked out. She hid, didn't eat or drink, and didn't use the potty for like a week. It was terrible. I miss her a lot. :( My parents said she's picked up some *bad* behaviors and that she seems sick. So my mom is going to take her to the vet's sometime soon to be checked. I hope there is nothing seriously wrong and that they don't put her to sleep. :(

CAT QUIZ:

  1. How old is your cat? just over 4 years.
  2. Male or female? female.
  3. How much does she/he weigh? just over 12 pounds.
  4. Is he/she overweight? vet says she's 1-2 pounds overweight.  i disagree.  when i first got her she was 9 pounds (after being in the shelter for awhile.  she's shy and likely never ate there).  she's a wee bit plump.
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule? 1/4 cup in the morning, 1/4 cup in the evening.  (i don't think that's enough...but the bag says 3/4, and i've always heard the bag states far more than necessary for an indoor cat).
  6. Do they ask for more food? she doesn't "ask", as she doesn't really meow.
  7. Brand of wet food? n/a.
  8. Brand of dry envy.
  9. Comments/thoughts? she's my profile pic and a favourite part of my day.  she has an unnatural love of bags and tissue paper.  she also doesn't cover her poo in the litter box...which sucks.  she doesn't meow, either.  she just makes the quietest little noise when she's hungry or hasn't seen me for awhile.  she purrs constantly and follows me around.  i think she figures she's a dog.  i effing love her.

Lonnie

  1. How old is your cat?  2 yrs
  2. Male or female?  female
  3. How much does she/he weigh?   16
  4. Is he/she overweight?   YES, she's the only reason for the restrictions, I've always just free fed cats until her little but started to expand!
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule? same
  6. Do they ask for more food? Always whining about it

  1. How old is your cat?  9-10 years
  2. Male or female? Female
  3. How much does she/he weigh? Not sure, maybe 16 lbs?  I tried to put her on my scale but she was more interested in the water dripping from my faucet.
  4. Is he/she overweight? She's asked me about counting calories, but I told her she's crazy.  She does eat an inordinate amount of twinkies though...
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule?  I give her a 1/4 can of wet food in the morning and the same at night.  I fill up her dry food bowl every 5 or 6 days, she regulates herself pretty well.
  6. Do they ask for more food?  I think the question would better be phrased " When does she not ask for more food?"
  7. Brand of wet food?  Anything that the local Bodega carries.  Usually Whiskas or Friskies
  8. Brand of dry food?  Cat Chow (The blue bag).
  9. Cat's name? Stella
  10. Comments/thoughts?  My cat is deeply disturbed.  She is the most clingy cat I've ever encountered and can't bear to be not on a lap at any point in the day.  Even as I type she has barged onto my lap and made a space for herself pushing my computer to the side.  She also throws up wherever and whenever she pleases, and pees on my boyfriends clothes (although mine are hardly ever touched).  She also has an annoying habit of trying to wake me up in the morning by climbing onto my nightstand and then slowly pushing my earring off, enough so I can heard them and be pissed off.  This will continue for an hour or so until I either throw a large object at her or get up and do what she wants.

&nb sp; My cat rules the house.  She may or may not be spawned from the devil.  But she's furry and warm which is convenient when its cold and I need to snuggle.

  1. How old is your cat? Both are 12.
  2. Male or female? One of each.
  3. How much does she/he weigh? Male is about 13lb, female 11/12lb.
  4. Is he/she overweight? They are kind of big cats anyway, but yes they've got a little extra (not "overweight" though).
  5. How much do you feed them and what schedule? In the morning they each get 1/4 cup of dry, then again around 5pm. They don't finish it all at once though, probably eat 1/2 - 2/3 of it and then graze on it the next hour or two.
  6. Do they ask for more food? Nope, but they start asking for dinner early.
  7. Brand of wet food? They only get that occasionally.
  8. Brand of dry food? Iams.
  9. Cat's name? Alomar ("Al") and Ringo.
  10. Comments/thoughts? I think you are feeding him enough. When I worked in the animal care field the cats would get 1/4 can twice a day, along with maybe 1/4 cup of dry. The times we do feed our cats wet food, we give half a can and it even seems like too much to me (Ringo can't finish it, but Al will pretty much force himself to, he always gorges on treats like wet food and meat scraps). Is his begging a new thing? Like have you cut back on food or has he always been that way? The only thing I can think of is maybe the wet food isn't satisfying enough. Maybe go the half wet/half dry route? The dry might be more filling.
