CC meet up in NYC - May 27th/28th

Quote  |  Reply
Hello all. So most of you know we just recently had a meet up in DC and I have to tell you it was really great. Everyone had an amazing time and it was so great seeing the founders of this site. Erik and Igor has done wonders to this site and we can't thank them enough.

POSSIBLE ATTENDIES

  • Erik
  • Igor
  • Rahana
  • Eagle1991
  • Nomoexcuses
  • Slappy + 1 guest
  • fauxtograph
  • Safina
  • Pygirl
As Erik and Igor are in NY also, I will definetly be talking to them about getting together. As I also know that they will be busy I am going to try and organize everything so they don't lose time on their work and making this site better for us. :)

I basically propose (with the help of HK) to plan a 2-day or 3-day weekend meet up in NYC.  There are TONS AND TONS of activites to do so that will not a problem. There are tons of hotels and resturants around town. And I have NO problem acquiring prices for anyone. Anyone who decides to come and needs help, I am here. :)

This tread is basically to get out there that I am planning a meet up and would love if tons can make it.  I also posed this 1-2 month in advance to give everyone a heads up on looking at their scheduling and fitting in a CC meet up. :)

So as soon as I get in touch with Erik and Igor, I will start planning. Any ideas and info from others would be helpful. Thanks. :)

Wait. Hold on. Wha?
How did I get wrangled into this? 8o

And I meant to DO This on a 3-day weekend! Silly!

May 28 is memorial day, and the next U.S. Holiday.. that might work for a meetup :)
Thanks rahana for getting the ball rolling on this one =)

As pointed out, since we are based in NYC we will have access to more resources and should be able to make this one a little more structured/longer if we want to go that route.

Anyone else interested in helping with the planning process, drop me an email at erik@calorie-count.com

Roll on CC New York!
hehe I didnt know that is what you meant.

BUT then I think doing a 2-day trip like they did a Las Vegas might be nice to. :)
Sure think Erik. I am here to help. As it is still a while away I can make time to help you in planning this. I have no problem. :)
I'd like to toss one vote in for May 27. It'll be easier to get from DC to NYC with some extra time and it'll be nice to not have to take off work :)
May 27th sounds good to me too.

HK maybe the DC people can travel together on Amtrac?
OMG. I'm trapped! Trapped with these people until I leave DC!!! ;)

Perhaps, kim, or a big carpool or two, if anyone's feeling like daring 95 :)

We can figure out the details of getting there once the details of the get-together come together :)
April or May works for me....  I wouldn't miss it!

Let me know if I can be of help in planning things/making arrangements too...

One thing we gotta do is get the Pump Energy Kitchen to cater for us at least one meal.... I don't wanna let anybody leave NYC before they try this very healthy, physical fitness oriented 'fast food'

Either cater or we stop by one of their locations on a walking tour...

OMG there are so many GREAT walking tours of the neighborhoods of NYC...

 =)
Easter week is impossible for me.  I can do it May 26-27.  If any of you New Yorkers know of a convenient, not too expensive hotel?

I'd love a tour of About.com.  I'd appreciate a few activities that don't involve a lot of walking.
there are bus tours as well!  shopping tours...  TV & Movie tours...
I could do the May 27th meet.  Not sure how much I could do to help but would love to help Erik!
OMG I want to go to New York!

Memorial Day weekend would probably be my best bet, but probably still pretty far fetched...
So start recycling your cans and beer bottles, nymo, and maybe you can ;)

I mean, start saving!
I have an appointment with my financial advisor on Feb. 21.   I'll have to see what we can come up with.       ;)
Hee. There you go! ;D

Seriously, look into Jet Blue or Southwest. I know that Jet Blue's hub IS New York, so that may work for you...
May 26-27th would be perfect for Igor and I - I'm glad things are leaning that way =)

As for hotels - I've stayed a few times at the Comfort Inn in Long Island City (just across the river from Midtown Manhattan in Queens - bonus!  Igor & I live in LIC).  It's clean and fairly decent, they throw in breakfast, and if booked well in advance it's usually about $100/night.  The neighborhood is pretty safe, but might feel a bit sketchy compared to nicer parts of Midtown/Lower Manhattan.

Another great resource for hotels is Hotwire - I've used it to get 4-star midtown hotels usually in the $250+ night range at $125-150/night...of course, weekends and holidays are always more expensive.
I wonder if, if we book a set of rooms like you do during wedding or conventions, you can get a better rate.

Anyone in New York City want to try to find out, assuming we can agree on a date?
I'm fairly new to the site but I"ve been looking to meet up with other CC people from NYC soo I will not be missing this meet up :)

The long weekend in May sounds good for me also.
When you book a block of rooms you basically have to guarantee they will be occupied (we did this in Vegas), so you have to be absolutely certain to get the number right, because if you don't fill the rooms they make you pay the difference (see: Vegas) :(
I don't think Southwest or Jet Blue fly out of Minneapolis...  Or else I'm too stupid to find them.

Northwest and Sun Country are pretty big here.    I use a site www.kayak.com for doing quick searches for flights... not that I get to fly very often...

so far I'm finding flights as low as $199 round trip... hmm
