Does CC Need to Rewrite 1200/1500 Minimum Calorie Statement?

Everyday at least one new or old member posts that CC recommends 1200 daily calories for weight loss.  Fortunately we have many helpful and knowledgable members who explain that this is the bare minimum and healthy, sustainable weight loss willl occur on a greater number of calories.

When one uses the tools to figure their calorie goal there is a statement below:

Generally, women should not consume any less than 1,200 calories per day, and men should not consume less than 1,500 calories per day.

Do you think this is misleading people into thinking CC recommends this amount for them?

I think so, yes.

Furthermore, it makes no mention of how CC's tools aren't accurate for growing individuals (under 21's), who have a higher minimum requirement to fuel their growth. Each by an increase of 300 calories - 1500 for under 21 females, 1800 for under 21 males. We do link to a calculator for under 21's where appropriate though this should probably be provided for people's reference, too.

But, yes. These numbers are the bare minimum sedentary requirement and I don't think that's too clear. This is something we have been discussing a great deal, though, and something I hope will change in the near future.

They could probably add in for it to say that women should not consume less than the minimum 1200 and same 1500 for males. Its more that they should emphasize. I myself understand what its says now clearly. I know womens bodies need 1200 calories aday to make her organs function and pretty much need them too live. Maybe if they put the explanations under each minimum. I see how it could come off a little confusing.

We've asked in the past to have the tools adjusted, because way too many people (especially if they list themselves as sedentary and are only 20 or so pounds from their goal) get recommended 1200, which is still too low for them. Nothing came of it.

Yea, I used the tools and was recommended 1200. I think when you're already small and a female you have to eat a pretty small amount to lose any weight.
Kind of stinks...

Yes. I'm one of the people who was "told" by CC that I should eat 1200- not fun...

I eat about 1350 and am losing just fine.
