Who is going by CC reccomended weight?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, so here's some background.  I am currently way overweight...I know that.  Since I got married 4 years ago I've had 2 kid... I went from 140 lbs to 187 (current but down 4 lbs since I started).  At my smallest in high school I was around 130.  But at 5'3" they still say that that is overwieght.  They say I should get down to 124!  That seems nuts to me, I would melt away.  Even at 130 I was a between a D and DD and had a bubble butt, but I liked them lol.  And I did have a flat little tummy (don't ask me how I never worked out until having kids lol).

So I am thinking that a good weight for me is going to be more like 130-135.  Should I go by thier weight though?  Is anyone else in a similar situation?  I feel like I'm being reasonable about it but was curious as to some other opinions.

I think you have to go with whatever is right for YOU.  My weight calculation says I need to get down to 143.5.  I am 5'7 and medium to large boned.  I have never been 143-my lowest was 155, and I felt great there, so that is probably what I will shoot for.  That being said, I am always open to the posibility, so I will just have to see when I get there. (I'm 210 right now).  Good luck, and do whatever feels best for your body.
My own goal when I logged on for the first time was 130. CC recommended 124.6. Now I'm at around 125 I'm going for around 115.

I thought that the recommended weight was a little low, as well.  I am... uh, curvy like you, so it seems impractical for me to get down to 143.  At my most fit I was 145, and it took a lot of work.  I'm not sure that I'm prepared for that.

I suppose that it's a nice goal, but I wouldn't worry about needing to reach it.  Even if you were happy 5-10 pounds above the recommended weight, I don't think that it will do you any harm.  However, I'm not a doctor or a specialist, so that's just my opinion! :)

I totally agree with ddugan.  You have to do what is comfortable for you.  CC says I should be 132 but I think I would be really content with 140 or 145 (but that's 100 pounds away.... *ugh* it sounds awful when I put it that way *sigh).  But yes, do what makes you feel good.  I think it's just an ideal number and a goal for you to strive for.  Everyone carries weight different due to structure and everything.  Good luck to you!
i also agree, whatever is comfortable for you. in my case, i am going by the cc weight, i think they recommend 144 for a nomal weight but when i reach that goal and if im still not happy, ill just go for my original goal of 130 lbs.
When I joined the site the recommended weight for me was 176... I would look like a skeleton @ 176.

Yeah, I hear that.  I've got a pretty big frame on me and I think my target weight of 178 is a little nuts.  It's just a guideline methinks.  I'm just aiming at the upper end of normal BMI and see what I look like at that stage.

I mentioned to my doctor the weight I was going for, 139 it is what CC said.  In the past I was always told (by charts and other doctors) that my ideal weight for my height was 130-135.  Grant it, those numbers where given when I was younger.  My current doctor told me he'd be happy to see me at 150 and that would put me in a healthy bmi.  Right now my plan is to wait and see.  Wait until I reach 150 and see if I feel the next 10 pounds would make that much of a difference or if I just feel like giong for it.

So, to repeat what others have said, do what feels comfortable.  I feel more comfortable knowing I have my doctor's opinion in on my decision.

Would you please post a link to the CC page or tool that "reccomends a weight"?  As far as I know, there is no CC reccomended weight.  You can look up your BMI and see your healthy BMI range, and you can get a calculation of how long it will take you to reach your goal, or you can set your own goal and the Tools will tell you what your calorie intake should be to reach it.  No where do I see a place where you put in information and it tells you what you should weigh.  I've looked in My Account settings and everywhere else.
claire- when you first make your account you put in your weight and it will put in a weight in the goal box- it said mine was 116.6
Mine said 131, and I'm going to shoot for that.  I was thinking 137-147 when I started, but I could live with 131...well 130 actually, I have a thing with even numbers :P

Aha!  Since I've had my account for over 2 years, that must be something new.

wow. It's SUCH a relief to know that so many other people felt the same thing when they saw the reccomended weight.

Sometimes numbers are just numbers, we should be so sad or happy about them.  My body feels better even after eating right for just under a month and losing the handful of pounds I have.

I teach physics, and for one lab activity, the students need to know their weight (mass) in kg for some calculations.  It's interesting to see girls' reactions at the scale, because they don't have a frame of reference about whether the # in kgs on the scale is heavy, light, whatever.  The emotional baggage that our society has fed us doesn't come out.

I feel if I get in tune with my body (I think it happens slowly over time), I will know or it will tell me what weight is appropriate for me.

I'm new here too. CC gave my goal weight as 115. I'm 5 ft. exactly and after four children and at my age (54) I laughed out loud when I read that then shrugged. Its just a number. I weighed ll5 my senior year in high school! That weight would put me at the nearly same size as my 17 year old daughter. She said'Mom, just do the program and get healthy. Forget the numbers.' I think those are wise words. I've been steadily losing and feel better every day. If the scale reads ll5 someday. Yippee....if its still a decent number, I'll be thrilled anyway.

I agree wholeheartedly.  It depends on your body type and how you carry weight.  I'm 5'4".  The least I ever weighed was 130 in undergrad.  I was a true size 4.  I now weigh 147 pounds and am a size 8.

My goal is 131 pounds, although 135 is probably more realistic for me.

With all of the AF fit test I've done, I've always been amazed at what the size/weight charts say.  For my height (70 inches) the max weight is 191 pounds and the minimum weight is 132. Your BMI has to be between .19 and .27.... You could fluctuate so much but still be considered "healthy".  I don't know.  I just think it is interesting.

I am 5'3" and 169lbs they said my goal weight was 127, i have never been that low before, the thinnest i ever was in my adult years was 140lbs, so i have to say curiosity is killing the cat on this one, i would love to see myself at 127! Again it all depends on how far you want to take this thing, the choice is solely yours and yours only. So i am sure what ever you decide will be the best thing for you. Good Luck in your endeavors! Laughing

At 5'3, CC recommended I should go for 125. I agree with the majority of posters on this topic - the recommended amount is a bit too low!

I was happy at 135 in high school and I don't think I've been 125 since I was 15. So, as everyone else has said, do what feels right for you.

Your ideal weight depends on so many factors: what your frame size is, how much muscle you have, how your weight is distributed, etc. So those tables can only be of so much help. At 5' 3 1/2" I am 114 lbs. I am looking to get down to 106 or 108, but I look good where I am. I look healthy and fit. I've also been lifting weights and doing cardio for 17 years, so there's a lot of muscle added to my weight--which means that some small-framed people like myself could potentially be even lighter than I am (having less muscle) and still look good, not overly thin. But people weighing more—120, 130, 140—could still look fit and healthy, too. I have neither a large chest nor a large rear end, for example. I am petite. If certain assets were larger, then I could see myself weighing more than I do and still looking fabulous. It's all relative.
