Hey everyone! I'm 15, 5'9", 143 lbs down from 150, and looking to weigh between 130 and 135-small frame. My question is, do the CC tools work for teens? They say my BMR is 2100 cals, and i should eat 1400 cals. On my active days, I run 2-3 miles, and I usually eat about 1600 cals. But I found a link in another thread ( i don't remember which!) that was a nutrition website for teens. It had my BMR at more like 2400 cals. Which is closer to actual? I am probably very close to being done growing, although I know your body continues developing well into your 20s. I also know that, even if my BMR is 2400, I could still have a 1400 calories and have a safe 1000 calorie defecit, but I think I'm probably better off eating a little bit more, being so close to my goal weight and all. I am less focused on the scale and more focused on my health and fitness- I feel better than I ever have now, and I LOVE eating healthy! But at any rate, who should I trust?

At the end of the day, you trust neither site... you trust your scale.
Because individual metabolisms vary, the numbers given are based on
averages. You could be hundreds of calories above or below average. So
the rule is lose no more than 2 pounds a week. The scale is your
best gauge of how big your deficit really is. If, on average, you're
losing too fast, the increase your calories. I agree, close to
goal, losing 1 pound a week is better.
Everything I know about this site is that the calculators are not meant for teens. Teens need more calories while they are still developing (and yes at 15 you are absolutely still developing)
I'd say trust the website for teens that you found.

ok, i'll do some experimenting :-)
bump- anyone else know for sure? any teens with experience?
think the calcs here are for adults
not to knock calorie count... but my metabolism is a lot different than what this website says... in fact... since i've been seeing a nutritionist... i eat sooo much more than my maintainence (so says this website) and I might have even lost a few pounds. I have more energy as well. I suggest that you take the calorie recommendations on any website with precaution.
Hi there!
Well, I just turned 18, and to get ready for my birthdat dress, I found this website and honestly, I think it really works for me! I have already lost 15 lb... :)
And about the calories you need....when I was 15, I ate about 1500 at times I needed to lose a little bit, because I had looked at different websites. Since your not looking to lose very much weight, I suggest 1800 kcals a day and the website can just help you calculate how much you have eaten, just as an fyi, you dont have to hold on to cc expectations completely! :)
I hope you reach yor dream figure, hak1031! :)
thanks!
