CC Virtual 5k/10k - Come Post Your RESULTS!

Quote  |  Reply

Calling all current and future runners and walkers!!  It's time to start the roll call for 3rd CC Virtual 5k!  Even better, this time we are doing both a 5k and a 10k, so you can choose the distance that works best for you.

9/23 is the Autumnal Equinox - the start of fall.  Which of course makes the end of summer 9/22.

And since we need little reason to have a virtual race around here, the end of summer/start of fall is a perfect excuse!  :)

The 5k distance is 3.1 miles, 10k is 6.2.  There are beginner runner programs like CC's own Learn to Run thread if you are new and would like to work your way up to it.

There is no rule that you have to run the full distance!!  You can do run/walk intervals, or walk the entire distance, whichever you prefer!  The idea is just to get out on the 22nd or 23rd and go the distance, either on your own or by joining in a race in your hometown area.  Plot out a 5k in your local neighborhood using a site like runningmap.com, hit the treadmill, or check out Active.com to find local races.

Post here if you want to be added to the race roster, and be sure to let us know which distance you pick.  Check back often to see how everyone is doing, and of course let us know how it goes on race day!

Happy running!!

SIGNUPS ARE OPEN UNTIL THE END OF THE DAY 9/23

I am in for 10K
Me, too, for 10K please! :)
I'm in for the 10K....  :) thanks
Well, clearly it's good that we are doing the 10k option!  :)  I've put myself down for 10k, but I'm still waffling.  There is a local race that I will be running on 9/23 with both a 5k and 10k.  But it's just one week after my first 1/2 marathon...  I'm not planning on all out racing the half, it will probably be right at my regular training pace.  So I don't think I'll really need that much recovery time - but I may still change my mind and switch to the 5k before I register.
I'm in for 5K. :)
im in for the 10k. gulp.
Nice!  I'm in for the 10K!
I'm in for the 10K... i'm hoping to keep up the running for the 5K and increase my milage to the 10K.  I might chicken out closer to the race.  Hopefully not.

Cynthia :-)
pandajenn: I want to up my mileage from 10 miles a week to 15 miles in 2-3 weeks. I looked up over internet and found many pgms. I am thinking of doing 'tempo building' after i cross 15 miles a week.

I value the 'first hand' opinions more than 'canned programs'. as a distance runner, how did you work ur way up the mileage scale ?
Sweet - sign me up for the 10K
Looking forward to it!
sign me up for the 5k please
Woo Hoo!!  Sign me up for the 10k, I am already planning to run one on Sept 1 so this will keep me training for one more month!
Sign me up for the 10K, please!  I'm running a 10K on September 9, so hopefully I'll still be good to go for the 22nd.  (If I'm feeling a bit too run down or unwilling to pull out all the stops again so soon, I"ll let you know and maybe bump down to the 5K. =)  )
sign me up for the 5k, please.
5k here
I'm in for 5K... who knows, I may decide to shoot for 10 when the day comes, but 5k for now.

*EDIT* Nevermind the 5k... I just used runningmap and figured out that I had ran/walked at least 10k today before swimming laps.  I am so in for 10k!
Oh shoot, I'd love to do the 10k but dont' think I could double my distance in 10 weeks. So for now, put me down for 5K, and I'll let you knw b4 the race if I can do 10 by then. Thanks for running this!!

Dee
im in for the 5k.... :)
I can run 4 - 4.5 miles or so now, but I'm also planning to do a 5K on August 3 and again on October 13. I'm leaning toward sticking with the 5K here so as not to kill myself. Then again, maybe the variety of having the longer run in there will be helpful.

Torn, torn like an old sweater.... :)
Since I'm new and currently don't run at all... I think I'll sign up for the 5K.

I just got ahold of the Couch-to-5K in 9 weeks plan so hopefully I'll be ready in time
