CC vs. Bodybugg vs. GoWear Fit - Calories actually burned?

Quote  |  Reply

I keep seeing the adverts for Bodybugg and GoWear Fit and am wondering if anyone has compared the two for accuracy?  And how the numbers compare to the CC numbers/activity levels?  I don't want to dump $200+ on something that's not very accurate and would love to hear some experiences.

Thanks!

Save your money, they're not necessary.

Can you elaborate?

I've never used a heart rate monitor, but I've looked into some and I know that with some brands you not only have to purchase the equipment, but also subscribe to an online service.  I've been on CC for a while now and have always found that the burn numbers have been fairly accurate (i.e. when I show a 3500 cal deficit on CC, the scale shows a 1 lb. loss).  As long as you have your settings correct on CC (activity level, etc.) I say use the free tools provided here to get your burn, both from your daily activity and any additional exercise.  Good luck!

I'm just having a hard time figuring out my activity level.  I'm a mostly SAHM, do some light housework, work out 4-5 days a week (45 min cardio - spin or elliptical and some light weight work or toning classes), work 2 nights a week in a fairly active job...    I've had issues w/yo yo dieting and eating disorder and just don't know where my calorie burn will fall.  I think I wind up setting it too low and then binging to compensate, but I am scared to set it too high and start gaining weight.

I've been using a heart rate monitor religiously for the past 11 weeks and it's really helped me alot with maintaining a daily calorie deficit.  I use an ePulse, it seems to me it was around $100 (got it off Amazon).   The nice thing about it, is that you wear it on your forearm so it's not strapped on your chest or using a radio frequency which might interfere with other people's monitors.  I'm a scientific type so I really enjoy crunching the numbers and tracking my daily calorie progress.  The advantage is that if your heart rate typically goes way higher than the average for a particular activity (or way lower for that matter), it can really alter the number of calories burned for that activity.  Plus it's customizable for your weight, gender and age which most gym machines don't do.

I haven't tried either of these, but does anyone know if they are waterproof?

I have a Polar one and it is waterproof so you can go swimming and stuff.
