Install a Kitchen Sink Water Purifier
Hi! I'm Ami Young with About.com Home.
Today I'm going to show you how to install a water purification system on your kitchen sink faucet.
Materials Needed
For this project, you're going to need:
- A clean rag
- An adjustable pair of pliers
- A new faucet-mountable water purification system component and filter
Dismantle your Faucet
First, we're going to remove the aerator from our kitchen faucet using our adjustable pliers. Now, in order to prevent the pliers from marring the chrome you may want to wrap the jaws of the pliers with tape like I've done with this pair.
Now that I have the aerator off, I'm going to use a rag to clean off the threads of the faucet.
Install Filter
Next, after checking to make sure that the appropriate washer is installed in the threaded mounting nut of the water purification system the washer should be provided in the kit I'm just going to twist the mounting nut clockwise onto the end of the faucet.
Tighten Filter
Now, when you're tightening the mounting nut down, it's important that you carefully tighten the connection. And although you may want to use your wrench to make sure it's good and snug, be careful not to over-tighten it or you may find yourself with a leaky faucet!
Prep your Water Purifier
Once you have the main water purification unit secured to the faucet, remove the filter cover and insert the filter. Replace the filter cover and allow water to run through the filtration system to flush it out for a minimum of five minutes.
Hmmmuch better! Thank you for watching. To learn more, visit us on the web at HomeGarden.About.com.
