It's hard to trust that thing. If you eat absolutely NOTHING but strawberries it will give you an A, where it gives an omega-3 supplement an F. But now that you mention it, your fiber is pretty lacking. And most protein sources only get up to about a B, which is the bulk of what you're eating, so that could be it. |

Gi-Jane's idea is a good one. Especially if you have cheat days/meals, you should probably have it with them. Or just have a candy bar with lunch one day and don't make a big deal about it. They're going to have to see it to believe it for good reason, with how rampant eating disorders are, and I can promise you that *one* snickers bar isn't going to make you gain an ounce. |

Yeah... ha ha... do any of these people tell you about amphetamine psychosis, about 2 hours of sleep a night, and what happens if (GOD FREAKING FORBID) you miss a day? Ugh, I had so many fewer problems before I got diagnosed with ADD, but it's a necessary evil. I'm a smart cookie, but school has always been hell for me. And it's not a situation of "Man up and do your f***ing homework," it's more like I sit down to do it, set everything up to focus on it, and get so frustrated after an hour I break something. My grades shot up and the housework got done, but I still would never recommend them. Since two of my friends who got suspiciously thin this year started trying to buy them off me, I can't tell anyone I'm on it either. If you look for a prescription when you don't need one, you're already abusing it. Chances are it won't stop there. It could quite literally drive you insane and kill you, since it's just a really controlled-release meth. |

I wanna dance around my room in my underwear and actually enjoy it. Oh, and if my boyfriend were able to lift me with less trouble, that would be fantastic. And since the scrawny little lad won't listen to me and hit the gym, bless his soul, I guess it's up to me. |

So much responsibility. I don't think I'd be able to handle guiding someone through the most important years of their lives, and I'm a pushover, so when they hit the teenage years and decided that they hated me... ouch. And that would involve creating some kind of stability for them, which I can't even do for myself. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I made any kind of mistake raising them, which would either turn me into a control freak or too lax. I'd have too much of the focus on food, just like my mother did... and honestly, I'm too darn selfish to imagine myself with a child right now. Until I can even imagine myself in 20 years I'm not going to entertain the thought. |

Every few days I work in a half cup of chocolate chips into my diet. It's only about 600 calories, and if it's eaten for breakfast (yes, I'm still a kid at heart) it's easy to make up for during the rest of the day. |

What I do when I feel a binge coming on: Ask yourself, "Am I allowed to eat this?" Drink a bottle of water. LEAVE THE IMMEDIATE AREA OF SAID BINGE TRIGGER. Go to your room, lock your door, and talk to someone that never shuts up over the phone or IM or something (and I say that in the lovingest of ways) Make a pot of tea.
Just don't keep binge triggers in the house if it's at all up to you.
Pick up a hobby. Some kind of art, if you can. Get really, really good at it. Make it a goal to be the absolute best that you can be, and don't ever tear yourself down. It gives you something to take pride in, helps with depression, and gives you an outlet for all of your pent up emotions rather than eating. To Not Eat Bad Food: All it takes is one day of staying on track and exercising. It feels incredible afterwards, and I find myself thinking "Is it really worth it to spoil all this for a cookie?" Even if you do slip up, instead of the "start again tomorrow" approach, I find that the "why put off until tomorrow what you can do today?" works better. One little slip up does NOT a ruined day make. |

| Recipes | baking survey! | Oct 10 2008 21:31 (UTC) |
8 |
1) how often do you bake?: A few times a week. 2) where/from who did you learn to bake?: My grandma and mom. I kick both their asses, though <3 3) what was the first thing you ever baked?: A lump of doughy mush. 4) what was the last thing you baked?: Double chocolate muffins. 5) what's your favorite thing to bake?: Cookies. 6) what was the worst thing you've ever baked?: A banana chocolate brownie recipe with artificial sweetener instead of sugar. Yeah... don't do that. It's kind of like a laxative... 7) what's your favorite thing to add to baking? (sprinkles, chocolate chips, dried fruit, nuts): Nuts and fruit. Because if I'm going to eat like a small mammal, so is everyone else. 8) does anyone else in your house bake?: ...They sure do eat. 9) have you started trying to bake lighter/healhier since joining cc?: I've been trying to make it light/healthy since I first started. 10) what's your favorite way to make a recipe lighter/healthier? (adding nuts instead of chocolate chips, making smaller portions, substituting egg whites for whole eggs, etc): Subbing apple sauce for oil and eggs. It saves so many calories and so much fat. 11) do you/why do you like to bake?: I dunno. Just because it's fun, really, and it makes a nice gift for people. 12) where do you store baked goods after you've baked them? (container, freezer, etc): My mom's best friend usually steals all of it. 13) do others think you bake well?: They don't complain to much. 14) where do you find your recipes? (cc, cookbook, family, own creation): CC/own creation 15) what's something you've never baked before, but would like to?: A flippin' apple pie. I've been meaning to for some time now. |

I think we're going to need some stats first: Age Height Weight (Edit: Just checked your profile, so never mind. But the weight you're aiming for could be VERY low, depending on how tall you are.) Non-binge calories And what do your binges look like, anyway? It's possible you're missing something in your daily diet, and you've been making up for it with days like this. |

They've just got naturally faster metabolisms. More muscle, they generally weigh more, and they're generally taller. Also, women are meant to have a bit more fat on them for child bearing and the like, so it's harder for us to lose. Sucks, don't it? |

| Young Calorie Counters | At what time did you start to notice your weight? | Oct 02 2008 05:23 (UTC) |

I was really young, maybe 6 or 8, and had to wear a dress for a violin concert (we played Mary Had a Little Lamb, and I never learned much more than that...) My brother and three boys told me I looked pregnant. Come on, I was little, I had a tummy! But I do remember bawling my eyes out over it, sucking in my stomach in in the shower and thinking "If I looked like this, I'd be ok with it." Skipped my first meal in the sixth grade, only ate a sandwhich a day for a few months, and it was never a full blown eating disorder. I started going to the gym in fifth grade, and made DAMN sure that I had at least a 4-pack by seventh (which I've kept, thank you very much) I grew two inches, gained 10 lbs., obsessed over them and lost 7 of them. South Beach, Atkins, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, binging and purging... yeah, it's been a great ride. I think I'll stick to veganism and running from now on. |

They have a pretty big selection:
And the next day put whatever's left over on a pizza. Spicy curly fries pizza is my favourite that they've come up with... and they hope that no one notices this. But they actually have a great make your own salad/sandwich section, where you can make something that doesn't even feel like cafeteria food. |
