Original Post by nelly1880: Hi Nelly! I can understand the confusion. When an American recipe calls for a cup of something, there is only one actual size for that. You have to use an official "measuring cup". Not just any cup out of your kitchen. Official cooking measuring cups are all the exact same size. So no matter what you are using for cooking, example flour, water or eggs whites, you would use the same "measuring cup" for all of them. When you buy measuring cups, they usually come in a multiple pack of these sizes: 1/4 , 1/3 , 1/2 , 2/3 and 1 Cup sizes. See this link for an example. http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodli.asp? Keywords=measuring+cup&ccaid=CKGOOGAW2013 10 So even though you see all different styles and colors, the actual sizes are all exactly the same. Otherwise trying to bake would be hopeless..lol. Hopefully this helps! |

Just found this one myself.....Get one of the Macaroni Grill boxed meal helpers at your grocery store....the Garlic and Herb Chicken Penne variety is very very good. You have to add chicken to it when you prepare it, so it's a great way to use your bonesless skinless chicken breast And it's only 240 cals and 7 grams of fat per cup prepared. |

Lower Fat Crock Pot Sheppards Pie Ingredients: 4-5 Quart Crockpot Instant mash potatoes (prepared according to box, using skim milk) Prepare enough to cover thickly, approximately 5-6 servings. 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 drained can of whole kernel corn (can use frozen) 1 drained can of green beans or peas (can use frozen) 1 lb extra lean ground turkey (or extra lean ground beef can be used) 1 Cup Low Fat Shredded Cheddar Cheese Onion Powder, Salt, Pepper to taste (or any seasonings of your choice) Directions: In a large skillet, brown the ground turkey and seasonings and drain well. Add soup to the meat and stir together. Pour into the bottom of your crockpot. Pour the corn and green beans over the meat mixture. Next layer the prepared mashed potatoes on top and smooth it out. Cook covered on low 2-3 hours, then uncover and keep on low for about 30 minutes to let the potatoes brown a little on top. Top with cheese and recover and let it cook long enough for the cheese to melt. Enjoy.

| Weight Loss | Calories consumed at different times | Dec 17 2008 18:09 (UTC) |

Good question! Personally I like to try to spread out my calories for my 3-4 meals evenly throughout the day. If I end up consuming too many calories early in the day, by the time dinner time rolls around I'm starving and have a tendency to want to over eat. But I guess it's really what works best for you. I really don't think it matters one way or the other, but you don't want to overload at dinner. Your metabolism slows down when you sleep, so you don't want all those calories sitting in there not getting burned off. |

do you eat poultry? If so, try ground turkey sloppy joes. Buy a can of Manwich, brown your ground turkey and dump the can over it and let it simmer for a few minutes. Slap it on a whole wheat bun and there you go....it's really good and easy. Have some of your veggies on the side.

1. Chili made with extra lean ground turkey 2. Sloppy Joes made with extra lean ground turkey 3. Tacos made with extra lean ground turkey I'm sure you are sensing a pattern here....lol I substitute the ground turkey for pretty much anything you would normally use beef for and it tastes just as good and you still get that comfort food taste!

| Weight Loss | For those who have managed to lose 20LBS before.. questions.. | Dec 02 2008 00:41 (UTC) |

Hello, I'm 5'3.5 and have lost 26 pounds since July 1st. I have tried to stay between 1200-1300 calories per day. I keep my calories at that level because (I hate to admit) I'm not very active with exercising. On the days that I do get myself to walk I bump up my calorie intake to 1300-1400 cals. Rule of thumb is to eat 500 calories less per day than you burn to lose 1 pound per week. I know it seems like a slow process, and unfortunately it is. But its best to do it slow so you have a better chance at keeping it off. Good luck!

| Weight Loss | Alli pills | Dec 02 2008 00:07 (UTC) |

Okay...here is what I know about Alli due to a very close friend who used it for about 6 months. (she lost close to 100 pounds over about a years time) 1. If not used properly, you can have very messy side effects along with stomach cramps etc. However, following the directions closely, you should not have any side effects. She never had a problem with it. 2. It's a fat blocker, not a stimulant, so no you will not have any jitters. It will not make you feel funny at all. 3. She's wasn't sure if the fat-blocking mechanism of Alli really worked or not, however she was so afraid of the possible side effects that it forced her to follow the directions to the T, therefore she was very successful at her weight loss. 4. She also followed a restricted calorie diet at the same time of about 1400 cals per day. I would say go for it, as long as you are commited to doing it properly. Stick with it and you will have great results. |

| Weight Loss | should i eat back those gym calories or what?? | Nov 29 2008 15:00 (UTC) |

Rule of thumb to lose 1 pound per week, you need to eat 500 calories less per day than you burn. (3500 less per week). So if you are burning 2200 calories a day, then yes, eating 1700 is right. But if you are only burning, say 2000 cals a day, then you would want to eat 1500 calories. Just never go below 1200. On a sedentary day, CC tells me I burn 1710, so I would want to eat about 1210 if I don't work out. |

| Recipes | ground turkey....what do I do with it? | Oct 30 2008 16:05 (UTC) |

Anything you normally would do with ground beef you can do with ground turkey. Meaty spag sauce, beefy mac, burgers, tacos, enchiladas, chili, etc. Here is one of my favorite recipes using ground turkey...it's got a little kick to it and if you use the Jenny-O extra lean ground turkey it's very very low cal and low fat. Easy and quick too! Southwestern Goulash - Makes 5 good size servings and each serving is about 260 cals and 4 grams fat 1 cup (4oz) elbow macaroni 1 pound extra lean ground turkey 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 can (14oz) finely diced tomatoes undrained 2/3 cup frozen corn 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce 1 can (4 oz) chopped green chiles 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1/4 teaspoon salt Cook the Macaroni according to package directions (for firm). Drain well and set aside. Meanwhile, brown the ground turkey and onion together. Drain then and add in all remaining ingredients (except mac). Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Stir the cooked macaroni into the mixture and heat through. Serve with low fat shredded cheese and fat free crackers. Enjoy! |

Edunph hit is on the head.....people get used to seeing you a certain way. And when you lose a lot of weight, even if you are still in a normal healthy weight range, as you are, to them its not normal or unnatural. A couple of years ago I lost enough weight to get to 135 (I'm also 5"3") and even at that I was getting negative comments! "You need to stop" "you're getting too skinny" etc. That was rediculous because it was coming from people skinner than me! it made no sense at all. And I was nowhere near what I should have been. 120 is just right for someone 5'3". Well I've gained it all back and have to start over. I don't know if I finally gave into to all the negativity or what...but now it's all back and i have to do it again. I will NOT stop this time until I hit my goal weight, then I have to be careful and maintain...not regain! Congrats on your weight loss!

| Foods | Mexican food...any suggestions? | Aug 13 2008 18:02 (UTC) |

That's always a tough one.....Mexican is my favorite and it's sooooo easy to overload! hmmmm....definitely check too see if the restaraunt you are going to has an on-line nutritional value on their website. Otherwise, defintiely stick with chicken. Maybe chicken fajitas with just the meat and veggies. Try to skip the cheese, guacamole, etc. Or order what you want too but only eat half. As far as chips and salsa, the salsa is ok, it's the chips that are a killer. I would sneak in a baggie of your own baked tortilla chips. |
