Fitness How Do You Fit It Into Your Schedule? Jan 11 2009

I elevated my computer so I could type/read while I am using an exercise band to do squats and leg lifts. While I am reading I work out my arms. Standing burns more calories.

Carry a basket at the grocery store instead of pushing a cart.  Can you stand at the back of your classroom instead of sitting??

DO NOT SACRIFICE SLEEP for exercise.  People who get more sleep lose more weight.  Not making that up.  But, many people who do sacrifice sleep must be younger --- when I was in college I trained with the ROTC at 6 a.m. for kicks! LOL

Weight Loss How long before I see results? Jan 04 2009

if you are only eating 1200 calories AND exerising, you are NOT eating enough.  you are in starvation mode and will not lose pounds until you up your calorie intake.

Weight Loss What to do the day before a weigh-in Oct 28 2008

i would quit eating early... like no later than 7 p.m. the night before.  also, i drink a LOT of water the day before. or tea. but no alcohol, milk, pop, etc.

not to be a little blunt... but going to the bathroom before you weigh in can make some ounces of a difference. :-)

Motivation I can't stay motivated!!!!! &also what motivated you to change your weight. Oct 08 2008

oddly enough, one of the things that keeps me motivated in a thread i started where everyone checks in on fridays. i am so competitive i can't stand the thought that i not be down a pound or more when i check in !! LOL

so i have taken up walking about 4-5 hours a week and playing tennis for 2 hours a week because i loathe driving in to the gym! :-)

there are several things that motivated me to lose weight. none of them PC or 'right'. one was that i came back from a vacation in mexico having lost a few pounds from montezuma's revenge... and my hot neighbor noticed!  LOL  i also had stayed at a topless beach and i didn't like being the 'big girl'.

Secondly, at the pool this summer one of the kids called me by another woman's name... a woman who i think is very heavy and unnatractive.  god help me, i will NEVER be mistaken for her again!!!

what keeps me going aside from my thread?  the compliments and head turning i get from other people. i like fitting in my pants. i like myself better. i love that my husband loves my body (he loved it before but it was hard for me to accept!)

i have lost 17 pound so far. my goal is 70 pounds total.  so i am not even on the down slope... but i have to check in a gain on friday so i got to keep pick up the pace! :-)

Foods Gross, I know, but when you eat a crapload of cabbage, is your skin *supposed* to smell like cabbage?? Aug 30 2008

glad to hear you aren't replacing all of them. :-)  that smell must be HELL on dating!! :-)  seems like you would want to cut out eating it to excess for that reason alone. ha!

amazing how much women can discuss any peculiar topic....  :-)

Genea, lol, I haven't had any other side effects...

Startswithx, never heard of it... so the only way to avoid this is to cut down on cabbage?? I recently had to replace most of my green vegetables (which was a lot) with cabbage - trying to save money.

And thank goodness I can't stand garlic at least...

hey mosco -- if you are replacing your GREEN vegetables with cabbage: are you sure you are getting enough nutrients?  not sure of the nutritional value of cabbage, but surely it can't be as great as kale, spinach, carrots (colorful veggies)????

Weight Loss Cheat day? Aug 22 2008
02:32 (UTC)

does anyone really need a whole DAY of cheats?  if you are committing to a healthy lifestyle, working in treats and snacks so as not to feel deprived. is a must.  And, I have to go out I remind myself not to gorge myself unintentionally.

BUT if I planned to be totally unhealthy an entire day once a week as a 'reward' isn't the point of a lifestyle change lost?

I liked betsy's idea of working out and doing a little planning for events that aren't to be missed. (weddings, parties, outing with girlfriends, etc)  I think moderation, even when at an event/eating out, is key to long term weight loss success.

Great forum topic!

thanks!  my hubby and I just got back from Mexico!  :-) My(ongoing) war with Montezuma's Revenge is really what started this whole new 'less eating' thing.

I COULDN'T eat very much for so long that I dropped a couple of pounds and my (very hot) neighbor noticed -- plus I was at a nude beach and I now I am tired of being the one who felt she had to cover up the most!

I am wearing a bikini next summer -- and going nude next time I am out of the country!!!! hahahaah :-)

p.s. which one are you in your pic?

hey restless!  i like the nutrition listings too. i used to manually track my own calories. i definately see that by doing in on this site i wasn't really tracking like i should!  now it is much easier to track calories AND caloric burn.  i do get a little sick of typing it in... hope i figure out more short cuts soon!  ha
