I never planned on doing 6-7 meals a day, but I habitually do that or more. My metabolism has sped up so much I get hungry pretty often. I usually end up with each large meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) being around 200-300 calories each, and that leaves me with about 500 calories of snacking for the day. I never plan what I eat ahead of time, but I do have many pre-measured or individually wrapped snacks around, and fruits. I always carry either a luna bar or a quaker mini delights snack bag in my purse, just in case- cause I really do just get hungry at random intervals. If I'm at home, sometimes a snack will just be a salad with no dressing-especially if I'm hungry and near my calorie intake limit. Other things I grab on the go are little bags of nuts, and one of my downfall on the road snacks is a Wendy's Jr. hamburger- good news is that without a bun it's only 90 cal (bun makes it about 300!)

But once you get the hang of it and know more or less what somethings calorie count is, there isn't too much issue with just grabbing a handfull and guessing what it may add to things. One more favorite on-the-fly snack is a banana and sometimes having a little peanut butter with it. For me it all works better not to plan things out for all the meals, because I may crave a certain something for a snack, and it's easier just to grab it when the hunger strikes me.

haha, i'm always hungry too! i'll eat breakfast, and an hour later i'll have to have an apple of something, i'll be starving! i don't know why, it's been this way all of my life.  and i also enjoy the banana with peanut butter, so good! i always have it before i go to workout.

This is my problem, most of the times I buy things like chips and salsa, cereal, and yogurt that I know I will eat for a snack. Maybe I should plan out things. Once school starts up I'm going to be on the go, away from my house a lot more, that's when i do the luna bars, tasty and filling and SO good for you

luna bars, i've heard so much about them! from what i hear, they sound delicious! i live in canada though, and i don't think we have them here, booo! hopefully they'll come over here soon, everything eventually does.

Woo hoo! Thank you for all of the suggestions, I'll have to make up a grocery list! Looks like it's going to be long too...

P.S. I guess I should have mentioned that  I'm vegetarian, haha.

Thank you! :)

Before I give you some advice, I'd just like to say, I have never dieted! I have read alot of healthy recipe books, and tips on living a healthy lifestyle, so I can give you some of those!

- Keep the junk food out of your house! If it's not there, you can't eat it!

- Many diets allow you to have one "cheat day", I'm sure you know what this is, but just in case you don't... you eat healthy all week, and if you feel you've done a good job, you allow yourself one day to eat whatever you wish. This doesn't affect your diet, really. Mario Lopez, who I'm sure you know also, (I hope!), goes all out on his cheat days, eating pizza, chips, pop, etc. Except, I don't really recommend that, maybe one slice of pizza and a handful of chips?

- There's lots of healthy recipes out there, to change the junk food you're eating! I recently bought a recipe book, Hungry Girl, it gives you healthy recipes by modifying the junk food out there. (Lots of people won't recommend this book as she likes t use sweeteners, etc., but she has a website you can go on, just search Hungry Girl on  google, and see if you like it yourself!)

- This next tip is taken from my mom. If we're out at dinner, and my mom finds herself craving a hamburger, she gets it. She takes the top bun off, and eats it with her fork and knife. It may look a bit silly, but it cuts atleast 100 calories! (The buns are usually around 250 calories at restaurants), also, try ordering your hamburger plain, and adding your own toppings instead, so you can portion control! Also, by eating with a fork and a knife, it will slow down your eating, so you'll find yourself getting more full faster! Also, one last point on this one, haha, if the hamburger comes with fries, ask for a salad instead- just remember to ask for dressing on the side:)

- Get a gym membership! If you feel yourself feeling guilty over what you just ate, go to the gym, it will make you feel alot better, trust me, (talking from experience). Just don't become addicted to burning all of the calories you've eaten throughout the day :)

I hope this helped! (This was alot longer than I had intended, haha)

This is a hard question! I'd also like to know what other people say. I always try to drink atleast 6 cups of water a day (they say 8, but that includes the fluid in the food you eat), and sometimes I find myself forcing it down, haha.

I have to agree with the person above me.

However, with that being said, stop with the negativity! Haha. I know you've probably been told that, we all have, but it really helps to think positively. Believe me! (Recovering anorexic/bulimic). I always try to look in the mirror and name things I like about myself, it can be hard especially when I'm already in a "down" mood, but it really helps me. Also, try and take your mind off of it, although, that rarely happens for me. I usually put on one of my favourite songs, or watch one of my favourite tv shows.

This probably didn't help at all, but I hope it did, as it works for me :)

i will not and i refuse to read her book. I personally feel her recipes are simply short cuts for calorie reduction and dont solve the real raeason why people are fat. she uses "low fat" and artifical sweeteners in many of them, all these products are dangerous for human consumption.

If we just started eating whole, unprocessed grains, veggies, fruits and prepare them properly. Then we would be much better off. In stead of using "lite" breads which are basically indigestible, why dont we use less of a whole, real thing.

I totally get what you mean, that kind of annoys me too. I try to stay away from some of her recipes including the fake sweeteners, etc.

this is an awesome topic!

i really wish they made 100-calorie packs of pretzels. i've seen 100-calorie packs for chips and popcorn, but never pretzels.

i also would love it if they made 100-calorie packs of cereal. i know that they have those little mini-boxes, but the calories range from 80-130 per box.

and i definetely agree with you about the meat idea and the pasta. it's SO hard to portion out, especially since most meat doesn't even give you nutritional info.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing the other day, I absolutely love preztels. So the other day I want to Walmart to look for them, and they do sell them, woo hoo.

Is it the Thomas english muffins? I noticed the same thing, and was hesitant to buy them, but did anyway because of the fibre. To be honest, I'd much rather have the Weight Watchers English Muffins.

Apple Fritter Donut

Oreo Blizzard

Pizza

French Toast

Bubble Gum Ice Cream

Kraft Dinner

Waffles w/ Whipped Cream

Soft Preztles

Mozzarella Sticks

Veggie Burger

Ice Cream Cake

Sugar Pie

The list could go on forever, haha

Foods What is your favorite cereal? Aug 15 2008

Whatever cereal I have, which is usually Corn Flakes, Cheerios or something along the lines of those, I like to add 1/3 cup of All Bran Buds. Just 1/3 of a cup of that is 12g of fibre! So it fills me up really fast, and you can't taste them which the other cereal either. (They're not too tasty on their own).

However, every now and then I always like to eat Apple Jacks and Cap'n Crunch :) They're my weakness.
