| Health & Support | Health insurance for a college-student married couple? | Aug 15 2009 01:20 (UTC) |

hi! i recently switched from working for a large corporation [full health insurance benefits] to a small privately owned business with not many employees [no health insurance offered]. i purchased an individual PPO through a website. i don't know if i am allowed to post websites on here, so i will send you a message with the link. i have basically the same coverage as i did at XYZ Corp. and can see my same doctors as before. my premium is ~120/month. you can select from different choices with higher or lower premiums based on the benefits you want. with this type of insurance, the risk is that you could get dropped at any time or they can reject your application if you have preexisting conditions, etc. also, no maternity coverage (but i think you can add it on if you pay extra). it was easy for me to get because i am a young (mid 20s) healthy person. hope this helps. :) |

This isn't TOO great of a change, but it does reduce calories a bit. I like the 'Cheesy Enchilada' hamburger helper, so I make it as directed but with the morningstar farms fake-meat crumbles/mealstarters instead of ground beef or turkey! :) |

I'm no help since mine were also 20 years ago, but might as well bump the post.... i got them a little earlier than 4...& my parents said everything went well with them. while i can vividly remember having ear infections up to age six or so, i haven't had one since...actually NO ear problems at all once i became school age. good luck to you and your daughter. i know this kind of situation is painful and frustrating for everyone. |

the swelling sounds terrible. did you try calling your doctor at home and explaining everything that is going on to see if there is reason for concern? Without knowing your exact situation & what you usually eat and drink, this probably isn't helpful...but if it was me, I would be worried that maybe it was related to something else (maybe different food or drink?). Hope you feel better & get some answers. |

haha I eat this too! I like to combine mine with morningstar farms "crumbles" (meatless ground beef imposter). I am not a huge veggie/tofu/soy/whatever fan, but the crumbles are DELISH...just put them in a sauce pan and simmer with the sauce..YUM!

Thanks claire. I have been wanting beef stew! This might sound ridiculous, but I don't have a crockpot yet. Any tips before I buy one on features I should get, or are all crockpots created equal? |

personal trainer - happy birthday! i wish i had some AMAZING advice for you, because you alway respond to my rants/questions with such insightful words. all i can say is, it is probably unlikely that you will gain the FULL two pounds exactly....and like others/you said, two pounds wont be noticeable. also, many peoples scales fluctuate up to 2 pounds. in fact..mine has a 2 pound difference depending on which TILE i set it on. so frustrating, but i have to remind myself that 2 pounds is not the end of me and NOT worth getting upset over. hope you are feeling better and having a wonderful birthday. :) |

if it continues for more than 2 weeks, see a doctor asap. i have been doing way too much "googling" lately looking for help with a medical issue i am having, and fullness/hard stomach are main symptoms i have found for a few scary things. obviously in most cases it is probably just a minor/temporary issues, but definitely don't overlook it for too long. i hope you feel better soon. |

just wanted to let you know that in my experience, the pill has not affected my weight at all. there may be others who have seen side effects...but i absolutely love it. have been taking the same kind (cyclessa) for 3 years...maintained for a long time, then decided (and was able) to lose ten pounds since september of this year.
:) goodluck to you! |

| Maintaining | How do you know when it is time to maintain? | Dec 24 2008 03:34 (UTC) |

Thank you so much. I really REALLY appreciate your advice and I'm going to try to take it to heart. I have saved it to my computer for future reminders. For some reason, I didn't really think about OTHER GOALS like you said. I think that is a really good idea, particularly the ones you named specifically (healthy foods & weight training). I don't focus on either of those right now, even though I know I should. If I want to be so intent on achieving certain "numbers", might as well be getting the right number of nutrients and fiber and everything...rather than just eating exactly 1200 calories of toast, granola bars, and diet coke (hence my username...). Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to respond like you did. It really helps. Happy holidays to you! |

Thanks personal trainer. I think you are 100% right. I am 5'6'' / 119...BMI slightly below 20 I think. Have gone from a 4/6 to a size 2. My brain tells me "this is it, time to stop losing weight" but something in me can't stop. For the person who said stop when I get compliments..people have told me "this is the best you've ever looked" but I don't want to peak, I want to get even better... PT again - I like what you said about thinking about obtaining optimal health. Within the last month, I have had a few more breakouts than usual, not much energy, very few BM / regularity, in addition to other issues. Do you think these are related to my weight loss? I feel so torn between my desire to keep losing & what I know is right. Agh. Sorry for the rambling. I appreciate your input though. |

Aghhhh...this brings back terrible memories of when I worked retail in college on the busy days. Just wanted to say good luck to all of you! Bring your healthy snacks, get good rest when you're done, and maybe give yourself a nice treat/reward the next day for surviving it. I'm sure you will burn some extra cals rushing around picking up the messes people leave everywhere. |

I love Mexican & live in Texas where we have the BEST mexican food ever..it is my absolute favorite. In order to keep eating it every week or so, I have made myself stick to the following "guidelines" & it doesn't seem to do any damage at all. If anything, I think its a nice little boost for my metabolism (I tend to zig zag anyway, so I make this one of my higher days):

| Weight Loss | Why do we weight more at night..? | Nov 25 2008 15:39 (UTC) |

imolde - i am EXACTLY like you. i line it up on the specific tile. sometimes i don't believe it so i try to weigh holding different things. when i get ready in the morning i will weigh right when i wake up & then thirty minutes later when i am going to get dressed and they are DIFFERENT. for no apparent reason. really frustrating. I know the answer is stop being so obsessed and maybe buy a scale without ounces..haha...but i can't stop! |

| Foods | Cheat Days | Nov 20 2008 21:46 (UTC) |

I don't plan a specific cheat meal or day, but when a special occassion comes up (once or twice a month) I let myself indulge...usually ends up being up to a 1000 more calories that day than usual. I make sure I exercise and drink water like normal on that day. So far, I have kept losing weight at the same pace. No change at all from the occasional big meal. |

that is so awesome! an inch is a huge accomplishment! um. my progress has been..not so good. i am hesitant to admit it but i got busy at work last week and came home not wanting to do the shred. luckily i was also too stressed to overeat, so my weight is stable, but i feel so bad for messing up the challenge. you are definitely right about it getting old. that was also a factor in my failure. i am determined to get back on track the rest of the month (esp. with thanksgiving coming). tonight i did level two on mute with my ipod on. i love to workout to good music so it definitely helped. i think i might switch off every day 1 / 2 and keep using the ipod.
good luck this week :) and dont be mad at me! |

| Weight Loss | WEIRD QUESTION - weight of food in your stomach.. | Nov 17 2008 15:31 (UTC) |

Thanks everyone. I forgot about the "fat storing". all of that makes sense. I guess I just have gotten so tuned into calories in / calories out, that I sort of forgot the whole process of what really happens. I know it was confusing, I was just wondering if I got on the scale after a horrible huge meal, but the number I saw was not bad, if I could assume that things wouldn't get any worse. Now that I think about it, there really are too many factors to think about it this way...considering if I was particularly dehydrated OR bloated at the time that could really throw it off. solution : I need to stop weighing myself after meals and stick to once a day. agh.

The candle idea is definitely a possibility. I have been burning a candle that is near the end & is a little smoky. I probably will get it checked as some of you suggested..better safe than sorry, and I always enjoy a good afternoon out of work Thanks again for everyone's good advice. |

Thanks for everyone's responses. I haven't turned on the heater yet, and I am never around dirt. I DO live in a downtown area and it has been rainy the past couple of days. I don't spend much time outside (work in an office 10 hours per day) but maybe that is having some kind of impact. also maybe the heater is on in our office? Not sure. I'm going to wait until it stops raining (probably three more days) & if it hasn't cleared up by then, then go to the doctor. thanks again for helping. |

it really depends on the sandwich. the kind i remember getting reminded me of a half sandwich i would make at home, with "normal" sized bread rather than 6inch bread at subway. they have menu/nutrition stats on the website if that helps: http://www.panerabread.com/menu/ enjoy! |

I fluctuate a lot as well (probably because I NEVER watch my sodium & I don't care). I tend to notice my weight loss in phases like "oh i've been weighing about 127 on a low day to 131 on a high day" versus recently i have ranged between 122 and 125 (yay!) |
