Well, I'm somewhere around 107 pounds now. This is about my natural weight--I always seem to come back to it. I guess 1500 is reasonable for me. Most days I eat closer to 1400 so I will try upping it to 1500 for a few weeks to see if I gain. Over the last month, on 1400, I have lost 1 pound. So I'm thinking 1400 is close to, but a little less than, what I need. |

You don't stop growing till you're 25. Even if you don't grow taller, you are still growing and metabolizing very quickly on the inside. By the way, why do you feel that you *have* to be a certain weight (you said 100 lbs) or a certain BMI number? That's a little weird... |

I'm in your exact same position. This summer, I'm on campus all day long and I get so hungry during the day. I too have to lug around a heavy backpack with my books and laptop all day, and I have to leave the house before 8am. I work out right after I get off work, so I don't usually get home till 7 but im starving! Then I have to do all my homework, and before I know it, it's bedtime and I have no idea what I'm going to eat tomorrow! The things that have really helped me: -sandwiches! the perfect quick lunch item and you can make them low-cal. prepare a bunch of them ahead of time and store them in the fridge. they can get a bit soggy, but soggy PBJs arent that bad. boca burgers, deli meat, and cheese slices are super useful for sandwiches too. get some easy, readymade condiments to keep it interesting (jalapeno slices, olives, mustard, salsa, roasted red peppers, pickles, etc.) -get dips like almond butter, hummus, tzatziki, salsa, guacamole, bean dip, etc. these can be paired with vegetable sticks (red peppers, carrots, cucumbers) or crackers. -buy lots of fruit. a piece of fruit is the easiest portable snack. if you cant afford tons of fresh fruit (i cant! haha) fruit cups are cheap and easy too. -cottage cheese and yogurt cups are awesome. if you can portion out some cereal or granola, they go along well with these. -string cheese, cheese sticks, light cheese wedges, babybel cheese rounds. these go great with fresh or dried fruit. -make your own trail mix! or buy some. dried fruit and nuts pack a lot of energy for a small volume -in a pinch, granola bars are an easy snack. larabars are great, but theyre super expensive and pretty caloric. kashi bars are a good choice. -try to prepare breakfast the night before, or at least plan out what youre going to have so your morning goes faster. some especially quick breakfasts: instant oatmeal packets, fried or scrambled eggs with toast, cereal with fruit and yogurt, even dinner leftovers. -i like to cook a bunch of baby potatoes ahead of time and store them in the fridge. in the morning can cut them up and fry them really fast with eggs and spinach for a breakfast skillet. |

I do 4 hours: 30-40 minutes of cardio 4 or 5 days a week + an hour-long muscle strength/endurance class 1 or 2 days a week. My number is a bit low but I am not trying to lose weight.

Make a big pot of soup ahead of time (like on an off-day or over the weekend) and it'll last all week for lunches. You can vary it up with crackers, cheese snacks, pieces of fruit, etc. |

| Young Calorie Counters | how to get out of starvation mode without gaining to much weight | Jun 16 2009 19:49 (UTC) |

You will probably not gain weight, nor put on excess fat. You are only 13--your body can handle 2000+ calories a day because you are growing so fast at that age. That is absolute fact. Unless you are eating french fries all day every day (which I highly doubt), all that you eat will be quickly metabolized by your body so you can GROW. You are a kid!!! However, I guarantee you that, even if you don't gain weight while upping your calories, you will FEEL fat. You will need to ignore that feeling and overcome it. |

This is such a good exercise! I love reading other people's responses...but when it comes to myself I always have such a tough time thinking of anything that I like or love. Self-hate is a huge obstacle for me. But I'm forcing myself now to do this! 1. I have pretty eyes. They're big, black, and sparkly. There, I finally did it. Took me half an hour and 2 bouts of tears, but I LOVE ME FOR ME! |

You can make soup with chickpeas. Here's a recipe I've been meaning to try. It calls for barley, but I think it would be good with orzo, small pasta shapes, or even brown rice. http://www.buffchickpea.com/2009/03/chickpea- tomato-barley-soup.html |

I've been eating healthy this week, neither under nor over my calorie goal. Still, I'm feeling very bloated and heavy. I don't want to say "fat" because I am not fat--I just feel very uncomfortable and not my usual size. I hate this feeling. It's tempting to drop my calories, but I know that'll just backfire because my metabolism will slow down. Any suggestions for me? Wednesday: Breakfast: old-fashioned oats w/ apple slices, peanut butter, cinnamon, and truvia Snack: old-fashioned oats w/ strawberry yogurt Lunch: 1/2 turkey sub w/ mayo, alfalfa sprouts, and tomatoes Snack: 1 big orange Dinner: sandwich (scrambled eggs, tomatoes, jalapenos, alfalfa sprouts, cheese, and black olives on white wheat bread) |

| Foods | Any foods out there that you are still shocked about how high in calories they are? | Mar 28 2009 21:24 (UTC) |

The one food I just CANNOT get over is rice. I am Asian and my family has always eaten at least 2 cups of steamed rice with every meal. That's 400 calories by itself! And rice is just considered a base for the *real* main courses! I hate missing out on homecooked meals. You just can't eat my family's food without a good amount of rice. It's so unfair |
