Hey crimson. Like so many others have said, you kinda remind me of me when I was your age. I just want you to know that things will turn out so much better in the end if you just stick to your guns, stay strong, and be who YOU are. Sometimes, in the last few years, I've forgotten that, and I've ended up in a big mess. I don't want that to happen to you!! |

| Foods | How many calories is a 'big' breakfast? | May 24 2009 11:04 (UTC) |

A big breakfast for me is like 500 cal....which I eat if I've got a big day at work/uni where I know I'll be busy and won't be able to eat for a while or much throughout the day. Usually my breakfast is about 300cal, sometimes a bit more or a bit less. I really like breakfast though!! |

I'm feeling ya - at least though since we're tall if we're carrying a few extra pounds it is not too noticeable!! I've always thought if I'd been any shorter, I would have been 'fat' and opposed to the more 'healthy' way I was described (when my friends say 'healthy', they mean a little bit chubby, lol, it's their euphemism...!!! Oh the irony...) Now that I've ditched 10ish extra pounds, people (especially my mum!) say I don't need to lose any weight. But truth be told I've been eating quite badly lately and have stopped going the the gym so much - so when I return to my routine I will probably lose a bit more!! OH and I am by no means trying to be unhealthy, I'm 5"8 currently at 136.5ish pounds, my goal is 132 :) Ps - for those of you concerned with cellulite - for some reason, I find elliptical training on a crosstrainer just makes it VANSIH! I find if I do that 3x a week it's GONE. Try it!! |

I've been SO BAD this week at uni! At home I eat fine and healthily but at uni there is SO MUCH tempting food around!! I know it's no excuse and it's my choice to eat it, but i've definitely been eating junk way too much lately. Need to get back on the wagon... |

Original Post by littleshellys: Don't get me wrong, I know that sleep is very important. But, sometimes, no matter how hard you try, life gets in the way of you looking after yourself the best you can! These things happen...just want to know the best way to deal with it when it does :) |

Hi all....I've got myself ISB -D and -P of course! Diagosed a year or two ago...I've always had a slightly more sensitive stomach than usual BUT after getting salmonella overseas, things never quite righted themselves so I was diagnosed with 'post-infection IBS.' For a long time I suffered with it quite a lot - lot of pain, couldn't eat certain kinds of food etc. But after a couple of years I now live without too much trouble and it only bothers me occasionally. I know what to avoid (for me, dairy is a major trigger) but sometimes I do get caught out with the occasional 'flare-ups'. I'm grateful I don't have it any worse though, my brother has ulcerative colitis....not fun :( |

I feel guilty to admit I don't like drinking water!! Often I force myself to drink a lot throughout the day, but I also go through lazy times where I hardly have any. It's not like I'm drinking sodas or anything instead, I just don't drink anything lol. I know it's bad!! I DO usually try haha... And ummm, I don't really like chips!! If I'm going to treat myself I'd rather have something like chocolate :) |

I don't know any scientific info, but from personal experience lots of fruits and veggies helps to decrease any bloating and water weight that I may have and makes my stomach look flatter! :) |

| Health & Support | Does anyone have Anxiety/Panic disorder? | May 18 2009 08:46 (UTC) |

I struggle with anxiety also. On and off since I was about 5 when I first encountered some health problems and since then I have been susceptible to it. I get so irrationally scared about diseases etc and worrying that I have them and that I'm going to die la la la that it can really interrupt with just getting through each day. I'd never sought help for it before but the last few weeks have been the worst its ever been so I finally went to a counsellor on campus. She's referring me on to someone but there is a long waiting list. Usually I would cope on my own but due to some personal circumstances I felt like this time I should talk to someone. I don't really tell my parents though, I feel guilty and don't want to worry them. I do find peaceful moments though. There are ups and downs each day. Things that give me 'ups' are distracting myself, doing a lot of work at uni to take my mind off things, hanging out with my friends, doing ANYTHING except sitting around thinking about all the things I am afraid of. Listening to some of my favourite music helps too. And being out in the sunshine seeing the beauty in the world. You are all in my thoughts, we can get through this :) |

| Foods | Soy Milk vs. Cows Milk | May 16 2009 11:18 (UTC) |

I like to drink soymilk because it's easier on my stomach as I've got IBS. So it works for me :) I didn't like the taste at first but I've come to love it. Both cow's milk and soy milk have their advantages :) As well as the other types of milk, I'm sure.. |

Hmm haha today I have had a very bad day in terms of nutrition!!! This afternoon I thought screw it I'll go to the store and get some junk, so I got a can of joke and a chocolate bar. About 350 cal total, so no big deal really, just fitted it into my daily target. THEN after dinner, when I had reached my 1800 target, surprise, my family had made a dessert! We hardly ever have dessert at home so I was very surprised! I know I didn't have to eat it, but since it's so rare for me I thought ohhh well. It was a sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce - so delicious!! No regrets at all!!! :) Probably ended up just maintaining or a bit over, so no big deal. |

Definitely see a doc. I know the feelings you're describing, I have been feeling them recently too and I recently just reached out for help for them as well. So you can do it, and let's try and look for that light at the end of the tunnel!! Best of luck, you're in my thoughts! :) |

Tuna is awesome like people have said but apparently you're not meant to eat too much due to the mercury content!! I think it's something like a can a week as the recommendation...sad because I love it and usually end up eating more than that anyway... |

| Maintaining | had my daily maintainance calories for breakfast | Apr 29 2009 08:19 (UTC) |

What number of cals do you maintain on? Are you sure you're not overestimating what was in the breakfast you ate? It'd be quite hard to eat a normal amount of maintainance cals in one sitting. Having said that, if you did, just eat normally for the rest of the day but choose as many low-cal foods as you can to fill you up. Tomorrow is a new day, you can make better choices. |

| Fitness | black spots while exercising? | Apr 22 2009 04:54 (UTC) |

At my gym they say you should eat something carb-based and substanial 1-3 hours before you exercise or you risk your blood sugar levels getting too low and the symptoms you describe start to happen, or worse you can pass out etc. So make sure you've had some decent food that day before you exercise and keep hydrated. If it keeps happening, see your doctor. |

| Weight Loss | Question about activity levels | Apr 22 2009 04:39 (UTC) |
1 |
I find asking this question useful: What is your activity level like WITHOUT added exercise? I have a lot of walking during my day from place to place so I set my activity level as 'light' because of this, and then add the rest of my exercise. As for you, you say you're sitting down for a lot of the day, so I think you should set your activity level to sedentary and then add any exercise, like your circuits, yoga and walking, to your log. That should give you a pretty good estimate of what you're burning. If your normal day-to-day activity level increases, you can always change when needed :) Good luck! |

Weirdly I eat a lot of toast?? I find it comforting haha, before I didn't have it a lot, but now I do. Fills me up and isn't bad for me :P My diet hasn't changed that much though, I just tend to eat -less- than I did before |

I seem to eat chocolate all the time and still lose weight :P If you fit it in and it works for you, it's fine. If the rest of you're diet is clean and healthy you shouldn't have to worry about the fat content too much. Good luck :) |

Haven't had anything bad today (woohoo!) but last night went to McDonald's with a friend and I got a caramel sundae. About 340 cals I think. It was yummm and I burned it off at the gym today so not gonna dwell! |

I eat 1800 cals per day. I work out a few times a week and am pretty active during the day rushing around. When I start to maintain I'll probably eat about 2200-300 |

If it were me, I know I'd want it approached in a really supportive way....when you talk about it, put the emphasis on health as opposed to how she looks. You know, like saying you just want to be able to live a long and healthy life with her. Like others have said, maybe suggest things you can do together to get in shape and eat well around home (maybe you could go shopping together and encourage her to choose yum healthy things, I don't know who does the cooking in your home but if you don't, maybe you could offer to cook for a few nights and make some really nice healthy meals.) Good luck to you! |

| Young Calorie Counters | Im in college and I drink. | Apr 18 2009 00:40 (UTC) |

It's really good that you have made a choice to be healthier but I know how it feels sometimes not to be able to let loose and just drink like everyone else!! I am in the same boat. If you want to actually get -drunk- though, like meowert said you chould choose something other than beer (which doesnt have that much alcohol in at and is high cal), like vodka mixes or shots or something which would have less cals. BUT otherwise, be proud of your healthly lifestyle and ignore the comments about you not drinking, you can still have fun :) |
