Maybe it's just those of us from podunk towns in Iowa that get up early so we don't miss the parade.

When I smoked I got a gigantic Zippo lighter so I wouldn't lose it.  I lit it once and almost burnt my eyebrows off.

I have my new boxer puppy Izzy who is my profile pic. She is 4 months old and pretty much the best thing ever.

Your dog looks a lot like mine!  Down to the head tilt and everything.

Best of luck to your puppy training!

WIN!  I would not have made it through college without Oreos and peanut butter.

Marshmallows melted in the microwave with Quik (chocolate milk powder) sprinkled on them.

Spaghetti with cottage cheese and Italian Dressing--I still eat this one!

Male black lab names:  Coal, Diesel, Midnight, Pitch, Hank.

I really like the name Hank for a dog, but then again I have a soft spot for classic country...

I'd like to name a dog Rufus.

I'm glad that he's eating now.  My parents have a dog that was abandoned many times and she still has issues (7 years later).  They take a lot of love and patience, but I think she's the most loving and loyal dog that I've ever met.

I am 24, my SO is 26.  We started dating when I was 19 and he was 21.  I would not go back and date the 21 year old him again (I would also not go back and be the 19 year old me).

That being said, I think the main thing that matters is the personality and maturity of the two individuals.  I have graduated college and have had a stable full time job.  I now couldn't imagine dating anybody who was in "college mode" (and don't think my liver could handle it anymore Laughing) but could see myself dating an older man.

There's two people in my department (10 people total) who have been out for at least a week and they don't normally call in sick.

I got my H1N1 vaccine.  Hopefully it works.  And the mercury in it doesn't kill me.  Just in case it isn't that, I'm still washing my hands like crazy and trying not to touch my face.

I hope you feel better.  Chicken soup is awesome.

Weight Loss Counting after vomiting ? Nov 16 2009
22:20 (UTC)
Original Post by trhawley:

Save all the vomit.  Heat it on low until all the liquid is gone.  Weigh the remaining dry mass.  Multiply total grams of dry vomit times the percent of fiber you had eaten prior to drinking.  Subtract the weight of the fiber from the weight of the total dry vomit mass.  Multiply the remainder of the vomit weight by 4 and subtract that number of calories from the amount that you had eaten.  Make sure you count all of your alcohol calories.  This can get tricky when you drink so much that you throw up since your ability to count would be greatly impaired by the alcohol.

Thank you, this just made my day!

Motivation Terrified about winter...in IOWA Sep 25 2009

I feel your pain.  I am from Iowa as well.  Anything below 40 is too cold for me to exercise outside, so there goes most of the year.

I managed to get through last winter by buying a gym membership.  I don't like spending money, so I didn't want to just waste it.  I usually just want to go home and cuddle up on the couch after work, so I would go during my lunch break.  Some companies aren't that flexible, but I'm blessed.

I see you are in the Ames area.  If you are a college student, there are a lot of intramurals at ISU (Broom Ball!), and I'm sure there is some sort of (free) work out center on campus.  If you are not a college student, they may have cheap memberships to their work out center.

Find a buddy or join a class.

Good Luck!

I have a somewhat disposable income so for every 10 pounds and every 5% I buy myself something that I want.

I've lost almost 60 pounds so I've had quite a few :)

My favorite was all new makeup (I haven't gotten any in years), but I've also gotten myself workout clothes, a hair cut and color, clothes, bras, a swimming suit, shoes, an electric food scale and once I get to my UGW then a vacation to somewhere I want to go.

If you don't have money to spend on yourself, then do something you want to do like go for a long hike, do some volunteering, or get some friends together to have a cookout (or play some volleyball)

I thought about RE: ALL...didn't think the CEO (or others in the company) would find that funny.

Then I thought about calling the anonymous ethics hotline and lettng them know I was offended.

Then I realized maybe it would make someone smile on here, so here is where I put it.

I always feel like I'm a crazy dog lady who shares horrible stories about my dog (not children) at work.  I'm glad to know I'm not the only one!

My 2 year old boxer picks someone and sneezes at them when she needs to go outside.

stxenia-

It is not negative self talk (hello liberal college classes!). I'm extremely proud and happy for what I have done and am not "dieting." These are the emotions that I feel as I have lost 25% of my body weight and the struggles that I am facing as I have become a new person with a new lifestyle.

It is extremely difficult to spend your life being one thing and then all of a sudden switch to another (as others see you) person.  Naturally, you WILL have negative feelings and will find your new life overwhelming at times.

I see you have been a member here for only a little over a month.  If you have dieted before and have lost weight without negative feelings, good for you.  You are stronger than me (and 99% of the other people on this site).  If you are just starting out--Just wait.  Read other posts.  Others are frustrated and obviously feel the same way I do.  You will feel this way too.

I've definately felt shame and disappointment too. I missed so many!

themassageguy-If you read my comment at the beginning, I say that I just didn't realize the bad emotions that come with weight loss. I have had plenty of good emotions (50 pounds, the 'obese' title and oh so many clothes gone), the motivation is there and I'm continuing everything that I've done. I was just thinking maybe some others need to see others feel the same way and need to get feelings out.

Weight Loss Diet pills, diet pills, diet pills! Apr 14 2009
01:16 (UTC)

I've never taken a diet pill in my life. I have had too many friends who have messed up their metabolisms because of them. And yes, they gained back what they lost (plus more) when they went off of them (one friend's husband actually flushed them down the toilet because they were taking over her life).

That being said, I do know people who have used them and they have worked. If you read the print on most, they will say something about being used with diet and exercise. Makes sense, huh? If you diet and exercise you will lose weight...Truthfully, it has nothing to do with the diet pills. If there really was a magical pill that worked, why do you think 1/3 of the American nation is obese?

And what is the hurry to get to your goal weight? I know bikini season is coming up, but when you are done losing, your lifestyle shouldn't change. If it does, you will just gain everything you have lost.

Be patient, and good luck.

I agree with the Linear Algebra, and I majored in Math! I'd have to say that and the History of Russia/the Soviet Union. It was all names and dates. It sucked.
