Weight Loss Do you weigh more then you look? Aug 17 2009

I have the opposite problem. :(

I look much heavier than I weight. I've still got a bit of a double chin left over from before the weight loss, and my arms are a bit flat (even though I've been toning them).

Second the pilates. And crunches. I do about 6 variations of sit-up/crunch exercises one after the other (totalling at around 100 crunches). I've still got some weight to lose, but I'm definitely seeing results and toning.

It really helps to go to sleep early. Most days, I wake up before the alarm even goes off.

When you exercise in the morning, you tend to feel very tired and sleepy by the time evening rolls around, so the 'early sleep' thing is easy to kick in to.

There have been those other good points brought up too:

-more energy throughout the day

-empty gym

-have your exercise gear ready in advance

Gained all the weight I lost over the last two weeks after a weekend of 'free love' with the fridge. Felt sleepy, tired and depressed when I woke up this morning, and NOT in the mood for gym. Decided I'd go anyway, and 'just spend 10 minutes on the treadmill'.

Ran 7 kms in 50 minutes, and worked out for an hour and a half instead. :D

Wow, an entire month gone by? I'll include my monthly changes in brackets.

Week 4 stats!

Hips - 92 cm (36.2 in) - 89.5 cm (35.2 in) - down 2.5 cms! (down 5.5 cms total)

Thighs - 60 cm (23.6 in) - same (down 2 cms total)

Waist - 72.5 (28.5 in) - 72 (28.3 in) - down 0.5 cms (4 cms altogether!)

Weight - 63.0 (138.9 lbs) - 63.2 (139 lbs) - up 0.2 kgs (3.3 kgs (7.3 lbs) lost in total)

Height - 160 cms (5'3)

BMI - 24.6 - 24.7 - up 0.1 point (went down 1.3 points in total)

A wonderful month for me, as I can definitely see changes. Fluctuated like crazy this last week, but despite the minor weight gain, actually lost cms in the process. Ran my first 7 kms yesterday (took me 45 minutes). Hoping next month will be just as motivated and full of energy - and wishing the same to all of you!

NOW LET'S SEE THOSE RESULTS!

Fitness A Couple Questions... Nov 11 2008
09:54 (UTC)

I say - go for the free weights in the guy area! I'm a girl, and I spend more time lifting weights there than I do on the machines. Trust me - they WON'T even notice you're there (they have a reputation for keeping a fixed eye on themselves in the mirror). Besides, you're paying for your gym membership and have just as much right to be there as anybody without feeling uncomfortable.

Good luck!

My week hasn't been too great either, but I went to the gym today and got back on the wagon before I was fully off. Feel great am looking forward to tommorrow's weigh in. :)

Some good points here.

Thankfully, my gym is relatively cheap and close to my house. There are no 'memberships', you have to buy cards, on which a specific amount of visits are listed. You have an expiration date of 1 month. This gives me extra incentive to go, as I don't want my paid 'visits' wasted.

That being said, I'd LOVE to have a treadmill at home (but I'd have nowhere to put it). :D

I love, love, LOVE the gym. Even though I sometimes feel self-conscious, I try not to let it get to me. We have no TVs at our gym (in fact, I've only recently heard about such a thing), and I go before noon on week days, so there are hardly any people either.

Truely, the only thing that makes me sad at the gym is seeing a 'large' person come in, return for 2-3 sessions and then never come back. I wish I could just let them know that no one is judging them, and that they should keep it up! We have one of those 'fairy tale' gyms you hear about, where everyone looks perfect (or nearly perfect).

I'd say: go with the gym option. You'll get bored with the elliptical eventually, whereas at the gym, you have a selection of cardio machines: stairmasters, ellipticals, treadmills, bicycles, reclining cycles, etc. Not to mention all the weight equipment. You'll be able to get a broader, more interesting workout for a smaller price.

Week 3 stats!

Hips - 95 cm (37.4 in) - 92 cm (36.2 in) - down 3 cm!

Thighs - 61 cm (24.4 in) - 60 cm (23.6 in) - down another 1 cm!

Waist - 73 (28.8 in) 72.5 (28.5 in) - down 0.5 cms (3.5 cms altogether).

Weight - 65.0  (143.3 lbs) - 63.0 (138.9 lbs) - down 2 kgs!

Height - 160 cms (5'3)

BMI - 25.4 - 24.6 - down 0.8 points.

A smashing week (and this is despite attending a birthday party two days ago, where I completely let myself go)! The biggest news was FINALLY being able to go under a BMI of 25, which has been a secret wish of mine since I was a teenager.
Cms and kgs are being dropped like bad habits, and I can feel it.

HOW ABOUT YOU, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN? I await impatiently for your good tidings.

Weight Loss do you guys understand... Nov 05 2008

As it's been stated above, one of the dates is your appointed 'stable' date, and the other changes depending on the speed of your actual weight loss. My 'unstable' date changes every time I enter a new weight, to match up to the speed of my weight loss. It's about 4 months behind my 'stable' date at the moment. :)

Yay! A fellow NaNoWriMer! I tried starting a post for the writers a few days ago, but no one responded...:(

To be honest, I never feel the 'munchies' when typing. I'm one of those people who eats when they are idle, so that is not the case during NaNoWriMo. Besides, how do you eat when you're using both of your hands?

P.S. - should we add each other as buddies on NaNoWriMo to keep track of each other's progress? My username there is 'witegots'.

Fitness Sweating causing acne? Nov 03 2008

Huh, that's strange. The exact opposite happened to me. I used to have tons of little bumpy zits all over my forehead, but when I picked up bicycling (and exercise in general), they completely went away. I assumed it was my sweat cleansing my pores every time as I forced it out on a daily basis. When I come home, I use industrial-strength soap (the one that doesn't have a brand name or scent) on my face, so that my face becomes squeeky clean and DRY. I've personally never heard of 'over-washing', but I suppose it might depend on what you wash your face with.

missmontana, my dad's exactly like that. Every time he sees me eating junk food (which is VERY rare), he always comments about it - "I thought you were going to watch what you eat?" It's gotten to the point that rather than enjoying my occasional snack, I begin to feel guilty about anything I put in my mouth.

And likewise, despite the fact that I go to the gym three times a week (and exerise at home on the days in between) he always asks me if I went to the gym on the day I DIDN'T go, after which he needs to remind me that I should keep up my gym work. It's very annoying. I find it best to not let his discouraging remarks get to me. Can't break up with my dad...

The Lounge Restaurant Service - WHY is it NOT Good sometimes Nov 02 2008

Wow. No offence, but you come off as an extremely difficult person in your post.

Not only would I not want you in my restaurant, but I wouldn't want to go out and eat with you anywhere either. How about showing some appreciation for people who work on their feet, rushing constantly throughout their shifts of 7-9 hours? How about showing some basic respect for other human beings, regardless of their job or social position?

You've written 6 paragraphs about not getting your condiments/utensils/right food. If you're anything like this in real life, no wonder they're not apologising for their mistakes. They're likely spitting in your food too.

Take a chill pill, and get on with your life.

Oh, and eat at home.
