Sounds like you want to eat right and be healthy and are asking all the right questions. Have you discussed your concerns with your doctor? What advice does he or she offer? Would getting a professional nutritonists advice be an option to you?

I know it's easier said than done, but you can't let what other (ignorant) people think or say govern how you feel about yourself. Maybe spend a little more time and focus on the the parts of you that you do like. Again, I realize that is is easier said than done, especially at 17, almost 18, but give it a shot.

How much do you weigh? 5' 2 and wearing a size 6 does not sound too skinny. I'm 5'2 and wear a size 0 and I definitely don't think I'm too skinny. I am on the thin side, but skinny implies unhealthy.

I agree with erinread and Javagen3. Weight training will increase your appetite and you'll want to eat more. Stay away from cardio for right now. cut out caffein drinks as they decrease your appetite. I've recently started cooking myself and found it can be quite fun. I love to see how healthy and tasty I can make a meal. Gourmet pizzas have become my favorite to make. You might also want to try some weight gaining shakes. They taste really good!

Sweetheart, don't give up. I am 5'2 1/2 and 106 lbs. (Not sure what that is in stones). I was like you at your age. Boys would not pay me any attention because I looked so young and also looked like a boy. I was very straight and narrow. Now that I'm 47 I truly appreciate it. I love my petite frame and work hard to keep it this way. I just had my 30th high school reunion last month and believe me, I faired so much better than those curvey voluptous girls that I was so envious of. For some reason those same "boys" paid me a lot more attention than they did in high school. I'll tell you what I tell my own 5'2 daughter. As you get older, you will find that most men prefer us petite girls to the tall ones that look them in the eye.

Ok, this is going to seem like a dumb question, but all of you seem pretty knowledgable about this site. I've only been doing it for about a week. How do you get your picture to your screen name? I've looked at the sites Q & A and nowhere does it tell you how. I like putting a face to the people that are posting an dI'd lek to get mine there too.

Weight Gain "You're So Skinny... Aug 27 2008

I get called skinny all the time. I'm 5'2 1/2 and weigh 106lbs with a BMI of 18.8 and 15.76 fat percentage. I work hard to look the way I do. I do cardio 6 days a week and weight train 3 days a week and eat a very healthy diet. I consider myself healthy and fit. I am currently trying to put on weight because I want to add more muscle, but I am doing it by eating a "clean diet " and have cut way back on my cardio. I find it very difficult to eat 2100 calories a day when the food is lean protein, veggies and complex carbs that is low in fat and calories. IT'S TO MUCH FOOD!!!! Anyway, sometimes I think people use the word "skinny' as way of saying thin and think that they are actually giving a compliment.
