Motivation I am soooo beyond disgusted with myself Oct 17 2008

I'm having a day of binging too! I hate this!!  It started last night. I ate a big bowel of Fiber One and then decided I wanted something salty, so I made a bowel of Nutri-system chili mixed with marinara sauce with melted cheese and blue corn tortilla chips. This was all at about 10pm.

This would have been ok, but then this morning as soon as I got up and made coffee I ate 2 fiber one bars with my coffee and then came to work and had a big bowel of veg/beef soup, brussel sprouts with cream sauce for lunch. Then... I had a piece of New York cheese cake, 1/2 of a klondike icecream bar and a 2oz. size bag of pretzels! Oh, yeah and a Glucerna snack bar (140cals)...

It is 4pm now and I just want to go home and  crawl in bed and start over tomorrow! Now i have to try to keep my cal intake very low for the rest of the day, which is very hard on a Fri night.

Just have to start again tomorrow. Just will be sure and not get on the scalew till probably Tues when the effects of this binge have worn off.

Shania Twain, or as I like to call her, Shania "Twang"- "Feel Like a Woman"...

God! I can't stand her stupid lyrics..."honey I'm home", "Give the Dog a bone" , "rub my feet, give me somethin' good to eat"... Sounds like it was written by a 2nd grader!

I can relate to how you feel!

About 10 years ago I was out running and a couple of guys in a truck drove past me and yelled "Jenny Craig"!  I know, sounds kinda funny now, but at the time I was really hurt by it. It obviously had a real effect on me since I still remember it 10 years later!

Sorry that happened to you. But, consider the source... And, congratulations on your weight loss and fitness success! Keep it up!

I have the same problem! I bought a big container of Lite n' Fit yogurt and never used it and now it is near expiration. I know it is ok to keep and use past the expiration date, but it just doesn't seem as appetizing to me now.

Does anyone have any great ways to use the Dannon vanilla Lite n' Fit yogurt that they want to share?

You know - a great way to jump start your weight loss efforts is by doing a cleanse!

I recently completed a liver cleanse and after the 9 day program I lost 12 pounds.  After a month and a half - I've kept it off.    And it so motivated me to keep going and keep the weight off!

The thing about fat is - that fat cells are used to protect the body from harmful toxins.  So - diets work for a short time - but, unless you remove the toxins from your body - your body naturally tries to protect itself and will use fat cells to store toxins.   Thus - after your diet ends - the body will rebuild the fat cells to store the toxins...  Vicious cycle

Cleansing your body helps remove these toxins so that the body works as it was intended.  Just like we change the oil in our cars because it gets cruddy - we need to do the same for our bodies.

Anyway - if you want more information - you can go to www.CleanseYourBodyNow.com.

Best of Luck!

Stella- I am a Diabetes Educator and extreme thirst and frequent urination can be signs of Diabetes. You could go back to your doctor and get screened if this is really a frequent issue for you. Especially if you have other risk factors for diabetes such as a family history are overweight, etc. You seem young, but we are seeing type 2 diabetes in children under the age of 16 more and more often these days.

It could also just be a reaction to the caffeine in the diet soda or your sodium intake as well. Try cutting back on caffeine and salt and see if that helps.

131.0# this am. Down 0.8# since last Sat. Hoping to be 130 point something by Tues am weigh in.

Have been refraining from eating much at night. Generally eating whatever I want for lunch and having high fiber cereal w/ skim milk and coffee for breakfast. This seems to be working pretty well for the time being.

Planning on going to the gym after work today to do my 1hr cardio interval class (a great full body workout) and then go home and crash.

sueswan- I know it's frustrating, but youre probably having a hard time losing weight for a couple of reasons. 1. You are already quite thin for your height with a relatively low body fat %. 2. You are eating a very low calorie diet and your body is trying to conserve energy. My advise to you would be to try up-ing your intake to between 1500-1700 cals and make sure you are including strength training in addition to your cardio workouts 2-3 times per week.  Other than that, it is just consistency and time.

Jezebelini- I think you may just be the only conservative right-winger on this post! You are a brave girl! ;)

Gay marriage: Whatever...why should they not get the insurrance benefits too?

Abortion: Not happening enough. We need to weed out the weak links.

Obama: High risk for assassination. Would not want to be him.

Mccain: Sarah Palin ruined his chances.

Jesus: Come on people. He's been dead a REALLY long time! He is NOT coming back!!! Get over it!

Evolution: Just basic principles of science. It just is...

Global warming: I never liked the cold. May be happening, but not because of humans.

George W.: Good SNL fodder...

Sex before marriage: Only the people who can't get any obstain...right?

The Drinking Age: If alcohol wasn't so taboo from all the religious freaks then most kids would not go and get drunk and do stupid stuff. Wine is good for the soul...

Pot: Totally natural. Helps alot of terminally ill people. My dad grew it in our backyard. I personally don't smoke it very often because it makes me soooo hungry!!

The War: Hasn't accomplished a whole lot in my opinion.

Meat: a rare filet mignon...awesome!

Tatoos: I change my mind too often to do anything permanent to my body.

The Devil: Red cape? Horns? Pitchfork? Yeah, I v'e heard of him...

Ghosts: doubt it

Aliens: not that I am aware of

Censorship: Just turn off the radio or TV if you don't want your little brats to hear it...

Magic: Cris Angel, David Blaine pretty amazing stuff

Love: painful if lost...if it's real it never ends.

Religion: Generally for the weak of mind or used as a "get out of sin free" card... I believe in treating others as you would have them treat you. Be a good person, friend, neighbor... I know all of these things and I never once read the bible. I don't need a book to teach me right from wrong...

Thank "God"!! I am not the only one who is driven half insane by the butchering of the English language.

Down here in Alabama people love to take trips to "walmark" vs walmart and they keep there clothes in a "chester drawers" not a chest of drawers.

The one I can't stand that I hear every day here in the hospital is the word "height" pronounced "heigh-th". Or "prostate cancer" as "proStrate". Or "Alzheimers" disease as "Old-timers".... Sheesh!

The OP's one of "loose" vs "lose" is on here all the time.

I ask you- Why people?? Why??

Monarch- Just curious, if you had a "pumpkin guts fight" in the kitchen then how did you "take all the seeds" and roast them in the oven?? Did you scrape them off the walls and floor? Or did you not really have the pumpkin guts fights at all? Or did you just use the seeds that were left after the fight? Just doesn't add up...

Hey Beaner- Get off your religious high-horse! Who cares if someone says something negative about "someones religion" ? Give it a rest already. Sheesh!!!

Emily- I feel the same way. I think Halloween is just another rediculous, overinflated, retail driven, indulgent waste of money. I especially think it is stupid when parents dress up kids that are not even old enough to understand what Haloween is. It is the only time when it is seen as socially acceptable to go around and beg for food from complete and total strangers. Weird! Also I don't like to feel pressured into participating in it. I remember being so stressed out the night before the Halloween parties at school, trying to figure out what to wear. It was always a humiliating experience for me as a child.

I also feel the same way about Christmas. It has become all about gifts and money. I dread it every year.

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it is just about families and friends getting together with good food and wine...what could be better?

Happy Monday All! Wow, that didn't sound too convinsing...I am in NO mood to be at work today. I am not in the mood to educate people... I really want to be at home with my dogs, cats and my horses... Mondays kinda suck. My job is so stressful right now. I am working on starting up this large outpatient diabetes education and medical nutrition therapy program that will service the entire county and the hospital so far has not been willing to let me hire anymore RD's or CDE's to help. Their thinking is I should get the program started first and then they will decide what staff I need. Well, isn't that kinda like building the house before you hire the contractors??

Anyway, enough complaining...for now, Hah!

I did have a nice weekend, though. Sat i spent the first half of the day relaxing and cleaning my house. Then I went to a wedding of a friend of mine from work. My BF of 7 mths (can't believe we have been together that long) went with me, which was nice because i got to introduce him to several of the people I work with. I was single for so long that I was starting to feel like I never had a "plus one" to take to anything! It was a beautiful outdoor wedding by the lake.

I weighed on Sat morning and was 131.8#. i lost 2# last week! Yeah! I am really trying hard to stay between 1200-1400 cals daily and not eat much at night. My goal is to be 130# by this Sat mornings weigh in. I can't wait to be back in the 120's!

My whole family will be getting together at Thanksgiving, as we do every year, so I am making a goal to be 126# by then. I think I can lose 5-6# in that amount of time. That is, if I stay focused and don't backslide again.

I think I might try to sneak out of here early today and go ride one of my horses for my exercise.

Hope you all have a great Monday!

With regard to B12 deficiency anemia (pernicious anemia), taking the intramuscular shots once per month is usually sufficient to control it, but you really should get some blood drawn to check your levels. B12 deficiencies are not caused by a dietary lack of B12, they are caused by a lack of production of something called "intrinsic factor" which allows your body to absorb the vitamin in the gut. So, consequently, eating more foods that contain B12 will not effectively treat or prevent it and taking oral supplements will not either. There are sublingual (absorb under the tongue) B12 supplements that you can purchase over the counter and take daily as an alternative to the shots. It is also a good idea to supplement the other B vitamins (B-complex) as well since the B vitamins work together as a network. Specifically the B vitamin, Folate, as a deficiency in B12 can mask a Folate deficiency, and vice versa.

B12 deficiency anemia is actually quite common in people who are on PPI drugs for acid reflux as well as the older population in general due to the decreased production of HCL acid in the stomach which is what leads to the lack of intrinsic factor.

i will write more later. i am at work and gotta run now!

BTW- This group rocks! Oh and to all you Philly girls, I spent the first 30 years of my life there before moving to AL about 6 years ago. I miss the culture and the food...

Foods regular olive oil vs. extra virgin Oct 09 2008
18:56 (UTC)

pgeorgian,  The actual fat content of the extra virgin olive oil is not different than the others. The oil, any way you look at it, is still coming from an olive after all. The EVOO is just the first pressing (as explained earlier) The main type of fat provided from olives is monounsaturated. The EVOO, however, is higher in various antioxident nutrient compounds (hence the color) and therefore does have healthbenefits above and beyond the "lighter" colored olive oils.

Many of the health benefits associated with the Mediterranean type diet, such as the lower cardiovascular disease rates, have been attributed to olive oil and the antioxident value of EVOO has been isolated as an attribute separate from the heart healthy monounsaturated fats.

Original Post by clairelaine:

Since the weight range you mention is all in the healthy BMI range for your height and age, you don't need to lose weight.  Of course you want to be fit and healthy, and look good too, but don't sacrifice any of that in the pursuit of unrealistic weight goals.

You might want to explore the reasons you are so unhappy with your body when there is no reason for this unhappiness.

Just wanted to stich up for the original poster and clarify: She did not say she was unhappy with her body, as a matter of fact, if you read her post, she says she is "happy" at her current weight of 117#.

I'm with you guys! I was down to within 4# of my goal weight this past spring and at the end of the summer I was 12# heavier!

I am currently down 3-4# of those extra 12... It seems like this time I am having a harder time getting the scale to move. I have been really good all week and exercising alot and the scale has not changed. But, getting discouraged by the scale is almost always what throws me off the wagon, and I am totally aware of this fact. Currently, I am really trying to focus on being consistent with staying between 1200-1400 cals and exercising and telling myself that the weight loss will come in time.

We all (well all mere mortals like us) have backslides from time to time. Motivation is found in many places. I find that a great pair of jeans or an outfit that you used to fit into or want to fit into is a great motivator for me. Also, I know it's scary, but sometimes just really looking at yourself in the mirror naked in bright light can shock you back into reality!

Let's keep this thread going and keep eachother posted on progress. I know I can use all the support I can get!

This is a really great thread! Trying new and exotic foods is a passion of mine.

I just recently tried Lychees. There is a Tai restaurant called Surin here in AL that makes a Lychee Martini! It's pretty good. Especially with Grey Goose vodka...

Eggplant is also one of my favorite foods. I think many people do not realize how versatile it is. Most foods are that way to some degree. Whenever I hear someone say they don't like a particular food,  i always encourage them to try it made different ways.

I am from Pennsylvania, but i live in Alabama now and down south many people are stuck on the same southern fried foods and overcooked vegetables and are afraid to try new foods because they think they won't like it. I want to shout "You don't know what you're missing!"

My father makes the best Italian stuffed artichokes. You can find a similar recipe if you look it up on foodnetwork.com.

Noelle,

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. But, remember, it's only a few pounds backslide.  Chin up! You are going to be ok! The most important thing is you are aware of it and you are doing something about it before it gets out of control. Sometimes we just need a little break from reality to regroup and come back stronger!

But- what's going on with this anemia (if u don't mind me asking :)) ?? Is it an iron deficiency type or a B12 deficiency? What did your Dr. say is causing it?  Have you had an anemia profile done recently? Maybe I can help. I do work with alot of patients with different forms of anemia as an RD in a hospital and also in my out-pt clinic.

Everyone else- We are all in the same boat here! Losing weight and, especially, keeping it off for the long term are some of the hardest things you will ever have to do. Making changes that last a lifetime is different than just "going on a diet". For me, the hardest thing is the consistency. This is a good week for me, though! ;) I am losing the weight i regained in my recent backslide and am working out consistently.

I feel that this website is a huge help to me and to many others. This has been a great group of people and we need to continue to support eachother and keep up the fight!

Hello! Where is everyone else??

Well, I'm still on track and plan on weighing again Mond. am. Was 132# yesterday, but definately feel like I'm losing. My clothes are getting a little looser..just a little. ;)

Ended running 4 miles and walking 3 yesterday. Went out to Wintzels Oyster House with my roommate last night, but just had 1 Michelob Ultra with a lime, a club soda with lime and 1/2 lb. boiled shrimp with coctail sauce. She got a broiled/fried platter and offered me some, but I didn't even want any.

Today had a grilled chicken sandwich and some pumpkin seeds so far. Headed to the outlets to do a little shopping! Woohoo!

Jennifer, I appreciate your interest in health and nutrition, but as you are not a Registered Dietitian or Certified Diabetes Educator, you need to be careful about the "services" you are offering on your website. (ie: diabetes education and meal planning) You are not qualified to treat people with chronic diseases and should not be representing yourself as such on your website.

I would encourage you to go back to school and get your RD to build some credibility in this field. You are setting yourself up for the possibility of some lawsuits.

And, yes, I am an RD and CDE with a masters degree in nutrition and over 15 years experience.

Calculate the calories in it to determine if it fits into your meal plan. As far as the nutritional content, it is a pretty well balanced meal. But it is hard for us to tell because we dont know the specific amounts of each item, etc.

But overall it looks great!

I am definately motivated by imagining myself back at my best weight (120# currently 132#).. so pgergian I am with you there. I am also stronger and fitter than most of my peers/friends.

But when it comes to celebrities, I always think of Jennifer Anniston. She is almost 40 and she is always in awesome shape. She is not stick thin, but she is very lean and muscular. I have never seen a picure of her where she looked too fat or too thin. I think she is an inspiration because she is very consistent with her weight and fitness and this is the main thing I struggle with.

I too am back on track. After gaining 7# late this summer (from 129# to 136#) I am back down to 132# as of this am!

I feel better already. I am back to running at the park with the weather finally cooling down some here in lovely AL. Went 7 miles on Wed and Thurs and I plan on going at least 5 today.

I have curbed the nighttime eating, which is my biggest issue. I have also put a stop to my roommate and me going out to eat 2-3 times per week and the ETOH (alcohol) at night. I will still go out to eat 1 x per week with the boyfriend, gotta let him spend money on me...haha.

Just had baked ham, pineapple and, oohhh, my favorite, sweet potato fries for lunch. But only 2-3 oz ham, 1 slice pa, and small serving fries. Had 1c Total cereal and 8oz skim milk for breakfast.

Don't know what I'll have for dinner yet, but it will be less than 400 kcals and I only have healthy food in my house. Tonight I am staying home, alone (my favorite) and watching 2 movies that Netflix just sent me! Maybe I will have a bag of Jolly Time Carmel Apple popcorn. (only 20 cals per cup; 200 for big bag) for supper with some Coke Zero (I think it tastes like regular coke). I know that doesn't sound too healthy, but it is Fri night and I won't be going over my kcals... ;)

I think we are all going to be super motivated this fall to get back on track with our weight loss and kick some butt in the gym!

Weight Loss What's your magical "Healthy / Heavy" weight threshold?? Oct 03 2008
17:22 (UTC)
2

Right now I'm 132#. Down 2lbs. this week! My weight threshold "in clothes" is 129#, so right now I'm not feeling real comfortable in my jeans.. :(

Without clothes...a whole different world! I do not feel comfortable in a bathing suit unless I am under 125#. My boyfriend and I went to FL in April and I was 124#. I felt ok on the beach. The lowest I've ever been is 119# and that was about 6-7 years ago and I was only able to maintain it for about a month.

I am just focusing right now on running 5-7 miles 3-5 days per week, NOT eating at night (my biggest diet pitfall) and eating a whole foods based diet.

Winter is coming so the clothes will be so forgiving. I am going to do my best not to use this as an excuse to gain weight, though!
