My personal favorite is jumping rope. I'm short, so I can do it in the house without hitting the ceiling, while watching TV or listening to music. |

| Health & Support | Have to Wake Up Very Early To Use The Bathroom? | Nov 06 2009 03:15 (UTC) |

Does the type of work you do allow you to drink coffee while working? I am assuming this is pretty physically uncomfortable for you if you don't go all week! If you feel funny about going at work because you might be embarrassed, put a can of air freshener in the bathroom there-- nobody has to know it was you who brought it! Or if it's a large public restroom with more than one stall, maybe carry a small car air freshener spray in your purse. But definitely throw all pride aside if you feel the urge at work! Everybody "goes!" I swear everyone in my entire office is regular as clockwork-- there are only 5 of us and I swear right after lunch break it is a ghost town there because we are all in the bathroom! What's even more amusing is that the owners of my work had the building built (it's a small law firm), and there are 5 people who work there and FOUR bathrooms! LOL We darn near each have our own, and the senior attorney has one directly off his office. |

Me and the kids eat it canned, hubby won't touch it that way! But there is rarely a food that I won't eat. :-) That said, I know all of you asparagus eaters have noticed that when you urinate after a nice hearty portion of asparagus, it smells exactly like the original asparagus!!!!! |

Originally I was going to suggest doing a joint Facebook page-- "Holly and Jimmy Roberts", for instance. That way not only would there be no question of if something was secret, you could also probably get to know some new friends! But reading further I see that it really isn't about the Facebook at all. I truly wish you the best. Maybe if he really is a great guy with a major hangup due to past experiences he can work through that with therapy and realize that he's got a girl who loves him, even though he's been quite difficult! That he's a lucky guy, indeed! If he does not change, you might try what I did when I was in a toxic marriage. I stayed for 10 years.. Then one day, I pictured myself 20 years later. In my mind, I saw me in my 50's, looking haggard from the constant stress and diarrhea (which stress tends to give me), wrinkled from all the crying, and STILL walking on eggshells so as not to make my hubby mad. If you see something similar after all avenues have been exhausted, then you will know it's time to go.

I can remember overweight kids being made fun of in school. How awful for a child, who isn't even at an age where he is responsible or accountable for his own diet. A real shame that some adults never grow out of it. Different but related-- I see the same stigma against people with addiction problems, such as alcoholism. Being treated like a second-class citizen is never helpful in causing a person to make healthy changes. |

It sounds like you are coming around :-) . But keep in mind that it isn't a clear-cut black and white-succeed-right-now-or-fail-miserably thing. You have the advantage of being in your body forever. And you can slowly get that body in the shape that you want it to be! We all have a bad week now and then, for sure. Hang in there! |

I figure if it's not broke, don't fix it. 5'2, 110 is about right as far as a healthy weight. If you are just eating whenever you feel hungry and staying around 110, and you feel good, I'd say you're doing fine. |

First off, GOOD JOB! My exercise of choice is jumping rope. I do it while watching TV, doing a set amount of jumps (say 30, for example) then walking in place for a little bit, then repeat. Burns a lot of calories in a short amount of time, as opposed to walking (which I also enjoy on a nice day) which takes a bit longer to burn as much. |

Have you been out of town on business or something? If there's a spot at the hotel where you can comfortably and safely do it, maybe you could bring a jump rope and get some quick but efficient exercise in at least once per day. I know that obviously you don't want to do that in your room if you are on anything but the ground floor, but maybe somewhere outside if it is a safe environment. For breakfast you may be able to eat something of your own in your room if you stock up ahead. I was trying to think of anything reasonably healthy at a continental breakfast and all I came up with was fresh fruit and toast. Lunch, if you are on business, might be harder because you may not have the time available to leave and get something different from what is offered. But don't give up, you've worked too hard for that. |

| Maintaining | Still tempted | Mar 15 2009 17:31 (UTC) |

Original Post by mrsdagle: I totally agree with being in the mindset that we eat to fuel our bodies. I cannot speak for anyone but myself, but the reason that I overate (and am still tempted to overeat) is a very simple and un-interesting one. I enjoy the flavors of yummy food. It tastes really good and I love to savor delicious flavors. When I was young, I had a rockin' metabolism (and probably was more active) and so eating until I couldn't fit another bite didn't cause any bad effects that I could see. So I developed a habit of indulging as much as my body would let me, not necessarily at every meal, but when I was eating something that I found particularly yummy. With me, it wasn't a matter of eating constantly, just overindulging during a good meal, especially dinner. I also didn't pay much attention to how healthy or unhealthy the things I was eating might be, again because I was young and what I was eating wasn't making me gain weight. There were no obvious consequences. Now that I am older I had to change those habits, because I cannot eat 3 heaping plates of spaghetti and such as that for dinner and remain tiny! While I wouldn't say that peer pressure causes me to overeat, I do notice that if I am out to eat with someone who makes healthy choices, I am more likely to choose something healthy myself. Whereas if I am out with someone who gets the fried poppers and the triple bacon burger, I am more likely to rationalize ordering something similar "just this once." |

I did it. I lost 8 pounds in the first month, but it slowed after that. Also it was very restrictive and un-fun. I hated eating burgers with no buns. I got low blood sugar and felt dizzy and ick several times, to the point that I would carry some lifesavers candy with me for just such an emergency. I was tired. I went back to normal eating and gained it all back plus some. I started calorie counting in May or June of 08, and by December (I think, I'm not bothering to go look, but it was around then) I had lost about 35 pounds and obtained my goal weight. Now I am maintaining, still at my goal weight, and not on any restrictive regimen. I eat regular home cooked meals most of the time, with large portions of veggies and smaller portions of starch, meat, and bread.. I snack on fruit, nuts, hummus toast, veggies.. Sometimes I go out to eat and I usually try to make a reasonably healthy choice, and not overeat. Now and then I splurge on some fried poppers or something, but if I do that I make sure to keep the rest of my meals low-calorie for the day. There's no effort to it anymore, it's just the way I eat and I am not missing out at all! My diet (meaning in this case the things that I eat, not method of losing weight) is satisfying and delicious! |

Hummus is probably my favorite food. All the suggestions of what to eat it with have been great. I like it on pretty much anything but my favorite is to simply spread it on a piece of toast. And roasted red pepper is my favorite variety. |

Original Post by lanner: I almost wonder if the scale you are looking at is incorrect... have you tried more than one scale? I know everyone is built differently, and you are undoubtedly more muscular than I. But I have a small frame and I'm 5'1 as well, and when I weighed 130, I could not fit in size 6 jeans. I definitely couldn't get a size 2 past my lower thighs. |

I was thinking about this post yesterday for some reason and I was reminded of the show "The Pickup Artist." This guy, Mystery, takes a group of young men who have never had a girlfriend, are scared to talk to girls, are not very social and teaches them to "pick up girls." While the overall goal of this show is, to me, a bit cheesy, in that what these guys need isn't just to see how many women they can pick up, I think it is a good example of how attitude really can make a giant difference. The guys on this show are average-looking, sometimes overweight, and by changing their behavior and attitude they learn to be able to be social with all kinds of people in all kinds of situations.

Not only is it okay, I think it's the best way to go about it. That way, you are not going to sit down at night to log your food and find out that you went way over or way under. It's a great way to make sure you stay in the range you are shooting for. |

I have one of those too. 5'9 128. I think he wouldn't mind gaining some weight but he's not too worried about it one way or the other. He has a sweet tooth but really doesn't eat a lot and absolutes hates the way that overeating makes him feel physically. He will not eat one bite past when his body isn't hungry anymore, even if that means he leaves just one popcorn shrimp on his plate (which I end up eating because I can't stand it!). So he's actually been a good example for me in learning not to overeat. And while he will eat his sweets, he is very thoughtful and good about making sure that there are treats just for me that are low calorie, and makes me hummus from scratch, which I find to be like nectar from heaven! Remember that some men are sensitive about being thin. So unless you know this isn't the case with your guy, you might want to keep the mentioning of your uneasiness with the weight difference between the two of you to a minimum. He finds you to be beautiful, and likes to give you hugs-- go with it! <3 |

I felt left out for most of my school years, and I was very petite, with the sweetest best friend,Jenny, who was better than me at absolutely everything. I had a few close friends but the majority of my peers were not interested in hanging out with me. I don't know what happened to change that. It was better in high school, and not an issue as an adult. I think more than anything, I now get to pick the people I spend time with, rather than being stuck with the same 20-30 immature people. I also am comfortable with who I am, and I like me, so I don't feel paralyzed with the stress and worry that nobody will want to talk to me. I'm still not a giant social butterfly. I am more comfortable in small groups than in large crowds-- still feel kind of lost at a party sometimes. But I know that that is my own inhibitions, not that there is just something about me that repels people, because after a drink or two, thus a small loss of inhibitions, I am (I should say WAS, as I no longer drink) easily chatting it up and mingling and having a good time. (I'm not talking getting drunk and stupid here, just a couple drinks!) Best of luck to everyone feeling alone among others. |

Try this for giggles and grins.. Drink lots and lots of water today and try to stay away from salt. Be sure and drink some before bed, too. Then weigh tomorrow morning after you have done all your bathroom business. I suspect that 1 pound is likely water weight, and that if you do that, the pound will go away. Had you weighed yesterday, it may have been a pound or 2 lighter. Sometimes when I am on my period I retain extra water and the scale might be say I gained 2 pounds overnight. In a case like that, whether you gain the pound or not isn't so much important as visually seeing how water weight can affect that number so that it doesn't scare you next time! Sometimes when I am on my period I retain extra water and the scale might be say I gained 2 pounds overnight. |

I used to eat 100cal ice cream sandwiches for my evening "dessert", and I am sure I still will every now and then, but I have found something new and wonderful to me! I throw some frozen strawberries in the blender with a little water, a little Hershey's Syrup (or you can use vanilla extract, but the small amount of hershey's isn't so many cals as one might think) and a few ice cubes. I have a nutricious, delicious, and filling treat! |

Hummus. Not only is it amazing on light toast, I use it to substitute for salad dressing, mayonnaise, and pretty much any sauce that is higher calorie than I prefer. |

Just keep on truckin' as if you didn't ever have the 5 drinks and cheeseburger (sounds fun BTW). Clearly you shouldn't be doing that 3 times a week, but if it's a once in a while thing, it shouldn't hurt, and may even help to keep you happy and enthusiastic about you new way of eating.. Knowing that you can get a higher calorie treat once in a while. You must be doing something right to have lost as much as you have, and if you continue sticking to your plan, it will keep coming off! :-) I notice I ALWAYS weigh more during the day than I do when I first wake up. I am kinda silly-- I will only weigh first thing in the morning before even a cup of coffee and after the trip to the bathroom. |
