I had the exact same idea about 4 months ago when I first got my iphone but unfortunately only one or two other people actually seemed enthusiastic in any way about it. With that said, you definitely have my vote! |

Being a native of Chicago, I have a few others to add:
Mustard's Last Stand (While not within city limit's of Chicago, definitely one of the best dogs in the area), Al's Italian Beef, Lou Malnatis, Gino's East.
Lincoln Park, Lincoln Park Zoo, Division St. bars, Oz Park, The Smurfett Stone building (the fabulous building with the diamond shaped roof at the corner of Randolph and Michigan), The Oriental Theater, The Cadillac Palace Theater, The Goodman, The Lasalle Bank Theater (formerly The Shubert Theater), Marina Towers (the two sprial residential buildings off the river), The House of Blues, Water Tower Place, The Tribune Building.
The Museum of Science and Industry, The Field Museum, The Adler Planetarium, The Shedd Aquarium, Soldier Field, The United Center, US Cellular Park (formerly, but always remembered as, Comisky Park), Wrigley Field... I could go on forever, but i'll spare all of you :) |

| The Lounge | Questions for Americans out there | Sep 30 2008 22:36 (UTC) |

Hi Direwolf, I've been an actor for almost 15 years now, and have had to adopt many accents. There is a program called the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) that breaks down all sounds in all world languages into their basic parts and allows you to put them together in different ways to adopt certain accents or dialects. That said, it takes a lot of training and is difficult to master. For a much easier way, you can normally pick up accent/dialect tapes that essentially teach you an accent. If you practice enough, you'll find that it becomes much more natural. They come in a wide range of accents and dialects and i'm sure there are some out there for american accents (depending on what regional accent you're looking for). Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. -D |

| The Lounge | please help. DC or NYC? | Sep 19 2008 21:14 (UTC) |

I currently live in NYC, so i'm very biased, but I would have to go with NYC :) Don't let the idea of living arrangements scare you. If you're willing to really put some effort into looking for a place, you can find a fantastic place for a very reasonable rent. I currently pay $800 per month and live in a large 3br apartment with two of my friends. I live in manhattan in a very safe and lively area very close to transportation (2 subway lines and multiple bus lines) and I am living off of a straight-out-of-college starting salary. If you're looking to live by yourself, the search may be a little more difficult, but you can always find something to fit your budget provided you look hard enough. I have a lot of experience looking for apartments in NYC, so should you decide to go with that position, feel free to contact me and I would be more than glad to help you find a place or give you some pointers. -D |

Hi, I worked as a server last summer at a restaurant in manhattan, but we had to pour guests' drinks out of sight and in good lighting so I don't really know any advice for the blind pouring. As for the whole "I'm new" thing, though, I would suggest against it. For all you know, guests may look at you and think you're an experienced server and announcing that you're new (though it may feel like it's giving you more breathing room) is not going to change their opinion of you all that much. I found that most guests either like you or don't like you and regardless of what you say to them you can't really sway their opinion. Believe me when I tell you that I was in sort of the same position as you in that I had never carried glasses on a tray before last summer and we had really delicate glass champaign flutes that tapered in from the top down making them very hard to balance. I distinctly remember one time i was walking and I guess i stepped a little too hard and 3 full glasses spilled all over one of the tables in front of me... now that was embarassing... |

Ha Ha. 4000 calories per day would be a little extreme. Thanks for your concern though. I hope you're all right about the small plateau. Granted I'm still pretty new at this, I'm also incredibly neurotic about my health and body, so when I don't see results I freak out. I'll keep my fingers crossed and keep going at it. -D |

While it may seem low, I am trying to find something for under $300 if possible. I don't buy jewlery very often, so i'm not sure how realistic this is... |

I played matchmaker without even knowing i was doing it. My best friend came to visit me at college and I introduced him to my neighbor/friend who I was very attracted to. We all hung out and when i told him we should go back to my room and get some sleep, he said "actually, I think i'm gonna just hang out here for a while". That said, he didn't come home that night. It is now 4 years later and they are still together and looking to move in with eachother come this december. Who knew I was such a good match maker :) |

I'm very excited to see what comes from this experiment. That said, there is a little puff of thought in the back of my mind asking what if something went wrong. I also don't know who exactly has said that it may lead to a black hole, but supposedly some of the predictions are coming from scientific minds. at #8 I took an ungodly amount of time to read through that entire thread yesterday and i agree with you :) |

I am currently working as an Account Manager for a small Advertising Agency in NYC. That said, I am really going to try to work my way into brand management eventually, but for now I like the place I work and the job, while stressful, is very informative and helpful in developing my skills. |

I understand that you can tag items under the same name to add them all, but I'm suggesting that you be able to add multiple items on the search results page. What if I don't get the same thing each time i go to a specific place? I still have to add each item individually then. With this functionality added, you would be able to significantly speed up the time it takes to enter a meal out as well as make it a more convenient user experience. |

I've only been using Chrome for a few hours, but thus far it has been very efficient. I am currently running six different tabs and all of them are running well with very minimal lag. I also like the extra large viewing window, it makes my screen feel bigger. Overall, I would say it is a very quality browser. -D |

I threw my arm out playing Wii once. My friends neglected to tell me that in order to swing the bat in Wii Baseball, all you had to do was a minor flick of the wrist. There I am, doing a full on baseball swing and what do ya know? I throw my arm out! Embarassing, I know... |

I wish there were a CC app on it as well. I have the website on my home page, but because the website is rather large to load, it only works on wi-fi or 3G (when accessable). As for the ringtones problem, I actually know how to create ringtones for it without doing it only from songs you've bought from iTunes. Feel free to send me a message and i'll give you instructions. -D |

| The Lounge | who's the unhealthiest person you know? | Sep 02 2008 20:57 (UTC) |

I would actually say it's a close tie for two of my friends. My best friend eats taco bell, white castle, mcdonalds, burger king, wendy, you name it, if it's bad for you, he eats it. I have actually watched him eat Culvers (known for their butter burgers which are cooked in massive amounts of butter) twice in one day ordering a double bacon butter burger, a grilled cheese, cheese curds, and a large soda each time. As for my other friend, he eats mayonaise on everything. I've actually watched him eat mayo on chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, and once had to watch him spoon mayonaise straight from the jar...

I was with t-mobile until my contract ended in may. Signed up with AT&T to get the iphone and it was well worth it. Granted there are definitely some frustrations with AT&T and the phone itself; I feel that the pros far outweigh the cons on this one. |
