Health & Support Endometrial Ablation Sep 04 2008
12:05 (UTC)

I myself opted not to have the ablation done.  I had joined a support group specifically for ablation patients.  I wish I could remember the site name.  They helped me out a LOT.  All the ladies were very nice and helpful.  You might want to google endometrial ablation forum or endometrial ablation support group.  That's how I found the site I had used.  I did a LOT of online research about the procedure.  After reading alot about the procedure, speaking with my doctor, and getting the opinions and input from the members of the group I decided against getting it done.  More member were absolutely thrilled with their results than were dissatisfied.  Sorry I can't recall the site.  Best of luck to you.

Yes I know how to count calories.  Yes I know how to measure portion sizes.  I drink the bottled ice tea.  I enter in every little measurement of every little thing on the labels.  I do not add any additional sugar.  No, I do not drink alcohol.  What I'm eating mainly consists of turkey, chicken, and salads.  I can't do fish.  I eat plenty of veggies.  Far as the working out goes, I don't exercise for an hour at a time.  When I do the aerobics I do 1 video which is 30 minutes.   When I walk it's usually for an hour.

As far as suing for malpractice goes... I would prefer not to.  I understand that mistakes happen.  He did correct the problem with the second surgery.  There is a 2 year statute in Indiana on malpractice charges.  I still have a year to file.  I don't see myself filing.  There are way worse cases out there.  Not to mention suing for malpractice causes insurance premiums to raise.  Besides, it would be years before I would actually get any payment from it if I won.  My younger brother ended up in ICU for 2 weeks after a botched liver biopsy that pierced through not only his lung but his bladder as well.  That was 2 years ago and he's still fighting them in court.

I've been on 3rds for 3 years now.  Changing shifts isn't really an option for me.  With my kids being in school it's the only shift that works.

Yes, you read correctly.  I refused to pay him because he botched the surgery causing me more lost wages at work.  Not to mention the 3 days I had to spend in the hospital after fixing the screw up.  Amazingly the magistrate sided with the doctor and ordered me to pay up.  GRRRRR

As far as the hysterectomy goes... I have had excessive bleeding since I started my cycle.  I have had numerous surgeries in hopes to fix it.  I had a dnc, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, right salpingectomy, hormone therapy, etc.  I tried every birth control known to man.  I did everything but the endometrial ablation.  My doctor offered me the burning and the freezing method.  He said it might or it might not work.  Even if it did work it would take 6 months or more to find out if it took.  Not to mention that it would only last for about 5 years.  I would have to keep having it redone.  I told him I didn't want to be a guinea pig.  Just to fix me.  My last period lasted from October 17 until I went into surgery on December 7.  It continued heavily even though I was on a triple dose of birth contol pills.

As far as the hormone level tests, I haven't had any done.  The doctor I just saw told me if it was hormones then I will just continue to gain weight.  I need to either learn to deal with it or change my life style.  He doesn't believe in hormone therapy.  He probably doesn't believe in PMS either.  I really hate to go back to my original family doctor but it looks like that's my best bet at this time.  Working 3rd shift with 2 kids makes it difficult to get sleep.  Especially if I have to make an extra trip out of town.  It takes a minimum of 2 hours out of my day to see my original doctor.  If it comes down to it then I will have to suck it up and just deal with the trip.

The weight is mainly in my belly and my chest.  The chest weight gain I don't mind so much LOL.  It's the belly gain that I'm not comfortable with.  Going from a size 4 to a size 14 in a year is just driving me crazy.  I can't afford to keep buying more clothes.  Not with 2 kids in school.  I'm growing faster than they are.  That's just not right. LOL

I haven't started in with the weights as of yet.  I want to get the correct form for the exercises learned first.  I can't keep up with video.  Four of the five DVD's in the set I watch use weights, mats, and steps.  So far I'm sticking with the cardio part first.  If I can't breathe through the video there's no way I'll be able to make the weights worth it LOL.

Thanks once again for all your help! I really appreciate it.

Thank you all for your support and replies.  I made the doctor order the thyroid test as well as a CBC to check my iron.  I had a hysterectomy at 25 due to anemia.  I was severely anemic and started passing out from it.  My right ovary was removed 2 years later because it was lost and confused LOL.  It had adhered extremely low and was causing me excrutiating pain.  My left ovary is still there.  It's lost and confused as well.  It is adhered extremely high.  My original OB/GYN said my left ovary was good and my hormone levels should be fine.  He botched the removal and nicked my bladder.  He ended up suing me for the surgeries so needless to say, I won't be going back to him.  I switched my normal doctor because I was tired of driving 30 minutes to another town to see my doctor.  Looks like I ended up being put in with a real jerk.

As far as my calorie counting goes... I am a huge Biggest Loser fan.  I have Jillian's 5 disc set of videos.  I have increased working out from 3 times a week to 5 times a week.  I also have Jillian's book "The Biggest Winner"  I haven't purchased a food scale but through reading her book I am pretty good at figuring how much food I'm eating.  I was looking online for a calorie counting website and that's how I found you wonderful people!  I have faithfully been entering in all my food information.  I've even been entering my flavored water. LOL  I have cut back my ground hamburger intake and now stick with ground turkey.  I have switched from vitamin D milk to 2%.  I have switched to whole grain everything (spaghetti, english muffins, bread, etc).  I can't bring myself to do wheat.  I just can't stand the taste.  I am having a little difficulty trying to figure out how to list my meals.  I'm a night owl so my first meal of the day is 6pm.  My second at 12am.  My third at 3am.  It's hard to keep it all straight when my meals actually cross into the following day.

It was extremely hard for me to deal with the attitude I received from this doctor as I have suffered from depression and low self-esteem issues my whole life.  In the past I suffered from a couple eating disorders as well.  I refuse to let that doc take me back down that road.  Thankfully I have an incredibly supportive sweetie by my side.  He's so supportive that he's begging me to let him go pay my doctor a visit and give him a piece of his mind.

Well, I am going to call the office and see if my test results are back yet and then get some sleep.  Thanks again for everyone's input, advice, and support.
