| The Lounge | Let's talk about kids being bullied/harrassed... | Apr 23 2009 03:46 (UTC) |

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. Here are some of my thoughts after reading all the posts on this thread. First, I don't believe in solving any situation with violence and I don't believe in ignoring the problem either. Growing up, I've faced many adversities but I've never ran away from the problem or ignored it. My father who was a Thai kickboxer in Thailand has always taught me to not fight violence with violence. He's taught me ways to block and slow the other person down. Why? Because when you start throwing back punches and kicks, it only makes the other person angrier and you to lose your focus and control. It's really a no win at that point. So you see, it's still self defense, but you're not bashing anyone's head in. This is also what I've instilled into my children as well. With that said, getting your kids into some form of martial arts to teach them those techniques and control is a very good idea. My thoughts on the harasser is that some do come from an abusive background, but then there are those that have everything but their parent's attention. There's also those that don't know how to cope with certain situations so they start to act out and find the weakest person to harass. As a parent, I would definitely want to know the background of the child harassing mine before taking steps as to calling the cop or getting a lawyer to start suing. Like many have said, as the parent of the victim, you'll probably uncover something that's going on with the other child and end up helping the child as well. I wished that the teacher that lil was talking about would've notified the authorities or child protective services and possibly save that child. I would also need to meet the parents of that child. There's a chance that those parents may not even know what their child is doing. It's best for us as parents to stay communicated with our kids and everyone that touches their lives. Listen to what they have to say and keep digging deeper during each conversation with them. I'm a sales consultant and I keep asking the when, who, what, how, and lots of whys with my kids until they have no more to say. Just keep probing. You'd be surprise what you can uncover. I'm not just talking about our child being the potential victim, but the potential bully too. Trust me, no matter how much the kids want to keep us out of the loop, we're the adult, we're much smarter than them. We need to be open and keep it real with our kids. We can't shelter them from the real world so help them understand it better. |

Hi, I'm 5'3" and currently weigh 135-136lbs. I'm trying to lose 20lbs and get down to 115lbs. I'd like be your weight loss buddy as well as support if you want. I've been so inconsistent for the pass couple of years. I'll lose 10lbs, fall off the track, and do it all over again. It would be great to be on this journey with someone who has the same goals. My goal is to lose at least 10lbs (I really wanted 15lbs like you We could do daily logs of what we've done, exchanges ideas on meal and exercise plans. What's working and what's not. Possibly even a weekly weigh in to stay on track. Whatever you'd like. I'm up for this new challenge and lifestyle change. |

GW –115 My name's Noy. I'm 27, 5'3" and weighs 132lbs. I have two beautiful children, ages 9 and 5, Ethan an Kaylin (in that order). I originally set to attain my goal by Jan 2nd, my 28th birthday. I'd rather lose it before then so I could already be looking good for my birthday. This is a great challenge to help motivate all of us. Thanks!!! 9/19/08 I feel good so far. However, just before posting I had a lunch date with my husband. We were pressed for time, so we decided to go to Chick-Fil-A. I've been so good, but I'm hating myself right now. I scarfed down some of the waffle fries and feeling sick. Plus, right after work, we're heading to the Braves game tonight (hotdogs, fries, burger, and BEER...AHHHH!). I have a love/hate relationship with the weekends. 9/26/08 Not a single pound lost. On the brighter side, at least I didn't gain. The cause is lack of exercise. With such a busy week, longer commute due to traffic at the gas stations (gas shortage), waiting in line myself for gas, and attending after school functions, I never got a chance to fit in my workouts. I am going to have to do twice as much for the next week to be on track in reaching my ideal goal weight. Actually I need to do twice as much for the rest of the time. Considering the holidays are right around the corner. 10/3/08 This must be the great plateau everyone has been talking about. 10/17/08 I'm feeling pretty good now that I'm under the 130 mark. This is where I usually start to get comfortable and my efforts fall apart. I won't let it happen this time. My personal goal is to try and lose at least 2lbs per week from now on. 10/31/08 WOW...I was stagnant for a week and now I'm up two pounds. I've got to get my act together and keep it together. AHHH!!! |

| Motivation | Looking for weight loss buddy! | Sep 12 2008 03:38 (UTC) |

Hi everyone...count me in!! This is what I've been looking for. I actually saw a thread similar to this but of course that club was closed before I could get in. I'd love to be able to motivate you all and of course have it reciprocated. Thank you all in advance Anyways, I'm 27, 5'3" and weighed 135 when I first joined CC in the latter part of August. It's been two weeks and I'm down to 131. Here's a little history on me. I'm Thai and where I'm from, I'm what they call "the big girl". Lately, it's been very hurtful, although, I play it off as best as I can. I'm actually using those comments to fuel my motivation. I have two children, ages 9 and 5. And yes, after they were born, that's when my weigh started to fluctuate. Pre-babies, I was alway between 105-110. I basically gained about 60lbs when I was pregnant with my first child, Ethan. I ate everything in sight since I've been so restricted with my eating habits. It took almost two years before I was down to 117 (the last 10lbs is the hardest to drop because I never got to 107 ever). I was able to enjoy that for about a year and then I was pregnant with my daughter, Kaylin. I didn't gain much with her, but I never really lost the weight I gained with her either. For the past couple of years, I've been jumping up and down between 125-135. However, this summer, I tipped the scale at 140. I know you're probably thinking...'what's the problem?'...again, keep in mind where I'm from, you get ridiculed for not being within the social norm (especially with physical appearance). I want to feel better about myself and be happy. I also wanted to focus on a lifestyle change as well. My son has gained 16 lbs in the last year and I really want to set a good example for him when it comes to food. I don't want him to be taunted and ridiculed either. My goal is to lose 20lbs and get down to 115 by my 28th birthday. My birthday's January 2nd. I told myself that losing weight will not be my New Year's resolution for 2009. My resolution will be to maintain and balance a healthy lifestyle and look great!!! What do you guys think about a weekly weigh in? I'm not sure how many more people you'd like to have on Rainbowluvbug. I know these forums could get overwhelming. Maybe on Fridays we can chat about what we're going to do over the weekend and how we're going to avoid temptations. Then we could check in on Mondays to see if we were able to accomplish our mini weekend goals. I know my weakness is during the weekends. Drinking with friends, eating foods that I have no earthly idea what the calories are, and not staying with the routine. Just a suggestion. Let me know what you all would like to do and count me in |

| The Lounge | Ebay/Amazon/other Internet Shopping sites...Which one is most reliable? | Sep 11 2008 20:53 (UTC) |

I haven't done any business with amazon, but I have sold and bought from ebay. I've been a member for over 5 years. They do charge a fee for selling on their website. I know they charge a fee for putting your items up for bid regardless if you sell it or not. They also charge a fee after you sell as well. It's been sometime, but I think it's a percentage of what you sold your items for. I usually get these fees back by setting a standard or flat shipping rate. It balances out. I've also bought and has had many great experiences too. One thing though, be aware of imitations. I did buy a couple of items that were thought to be authentic, but they really weren't. Ebay has a pretty good system so you can really seek out those who are scammers. Just make sure you read everything before buying or selling. Good luck!!! |

I use to be the same way. I'd get so frustrated because I feel like I'm not seeing the results on the scale. I've learned that you shouldn't obsess with body weight and start paying attention to body composition. How much body fat do you have compared to muscle? Just watching your weight on the scale isn't very helpful. I agree with girlfighting27. 10 lbs of fat and 10 lbs of muscle is still 10lbs. However, a woman weighing 150 pounds with 19% fat will look much smaller (and be much healthier) than a woman at 150 pounds with 35% fat. They weigh the same, yet the composition is different. Because muscle is more dense than fat the person with less fat and more muscle will look smaller. I'm definitely trying to shed the pounds first so I've been doing more cardio than lifting weight. I'm no expert but maybe if you vary your workout to try and burn the fat then maybe that will help reduce your weight as well. I hope that makes sense. Instead of getting on the scale all the time, try finding something in your closet that you haven't been able to get in to and try it on. You'd be surprised |

I feel exactly as you all do. I started a new job six months ago and I hate it, hate it, hate it... Anyways, I've been online (not just for CC For those of you needing something to do, try West at Home, Teletech, and Live Ops. You don't have to pay anything for the first two I believe, but $45 for Live Ops for the background check. I actually started training for one of West at Home's client, but never had a chance to get on the phones because I started my current job. I know for sure West at Home is legit because I got a couple of checks from them for my training. I hope this helps for everyone |

Perfect timing for this...I had a very bad, bad evening yesterday... Okay, I'm the "big girl" in my group of friends. No, group of people I happen to know (I married into a BIG family). Let me set the stage...I'm 5'3" and 131lbs while most of the other girls are 5' and under and weigh under 100lbs (by a lot). Before starting with CC, I gained about 20lbs in the past couple of years. I haven't hung out with them much also, so when they recently saw me, it was a lot of negative comments towards my weight gain. Last night was the worst. I didn't want to eat the fried rice and some of the foods that were there because I'm trying to accomplish my goals of a healthier lifestyle. I don't like to say I'm on a diet because truly I'm trying to make better food choices, exercise, and lose a few pounds in the process. Well, of course there's always that one person that wants to shoot off at the mouth and be "cool". Because I ate a little bit of what they had so that I wouldn't be rude, she said "well, she doesn't need to eat anyways, because you all know, we (meaning them) need it more than she does." She didn't stop there. I'm not a confrontational person and being it was my husband's nephew's birthday party and she happens to be the nephew's aunt on his mom's side, I reacted by jokingly agreeing with her. I said, "well, they call me big mama for a reason" and I laughed. She kept going, "you've got to be what? At least 200lbs, no 260?" I hate it when people don't realize whether joking or not, that certain comments should be kept to themselves. Quite honestly, I wasn't hurt by her comment because I use those types of statements to fuel myself to achieve my goals anyway. I just wonder do these kinds of people hear themselves and do they even think about what their words may do to others? I also wonder if it was vice versa, how would they react? |

I've always wondered about that myself. I noticed my daughter, who's 5 and is about 35lbs (yeah, pretty small for her age), at the pool over the summer and her stomach protrudes. Not much, but it does. I don't know if because she's a girl would have anything to do with that since your son doesn't have that problem. I've been holding in my stomach, and oh believe me when I say it's not for posture, ever since I had my son over 9 years ago. I was skinnier when I was younger, but I remember always having a small pooch. I don't remember sucking it in then. But that pooch did make me feel like my body was out of place. Maybe if I would've sucked in, then I would've felt better about myself. LOL... |
