I am so sorry your father makes these comments to you.  Unfortunately your problem with him seem to be bigger than your past weight problems.  We can handle our weight but our relationships need two people to be successful.  Good luck with what appears to be a stressed relationship that should be a supportive, loving one.

Congratulations on being way ahead of the game!  I definitely relate the scales to exercising.  I quit regular exercise and it seems no matter what I eat the scales go up.  I think the moral of that story is ....................Ta DA!!!!!!!!!!  Even slim people need to exercise to truly be healthy, and those of us who tend toward the "not so slim" need it just a bit more.

There was a cartoon character, POGO, who gave great words of wisdom.  "We have met the enemy and they are us"............not Starbucks, Wendy's etc!

Neat to see someone so young who gets it.  Wish I had put it into action many years ago.

Personally I take responsibility for my weight, both when it is down and when it is up.  Not my  mother's fault, my father's fault, giving birth to my children, grief on losing someone I love, or any of the myriad of reasons people give to be overweight.

I hesitate to agree with techdog, don't want to make him get after me!, but he is right on target.  Everyone has those excuses.  Few of us are totally free of emotional and spiritual pain.  The only way we win is to take control and be healthy.  I still have problems with that at times but I know I am the one who makes the decisions

That "hate my mom" is a very strong comment!  I would hope you could control your own diet without hating your mom.  If you do hate her, I think there may be more going on than diet.

You have a lovely face which is ofcourse the only part of you available to see!  The person who wrote you obviously has a problem with her own looks and spirit.  Ignore her, pity her but don't let her comment phase you..........which sounds like what you are doing!  Turn it over to the moderators and forget her.  You wouldn't want to sink to her level!  Being very generous we might just feel sorry for her problems what ever they are.

Weight Loss Anyone ever been to China?? Mar 28 2009

I loved the food in China!  We took snacks like granola bars that we ended up giving to the hotel staff because we sure didn't eat it!  I never saw anyone spit food out, they hold the bowls up to their mouths because it works while trying to eat with chopsticks.  The fruit was outstanding at breakfast.

I would advise you to stay away from the fast food imports and enjoy the local foods.  You will find the fried rice is a whole new food, nothing like what we generally find in the USA..........very very good!

Go and enjoy it.  My month in China was my favorite overseas trip.  I would love to go again.

This has been a recurring post for me but I always wonder why any different  suggestion brings such volatile and often hostile comments.  Let's give each other the right to try something.  Most of us seem to be reasonably intelligent and adult enough to make a decision on our own.  And let's face it if we knew all the answers we probably wouldn't be actively participating on this site........which I love and need by the way.  I just really dislike the occasionally sarcastic remark.

RN here and I identify with one of your problems.  I eat too fast, always did while in school, then while working.  My husband and I sit down to eat and before he is half through I am finished and loading the dishwasher.  Lately I am makingan effort to slow down.  Good luck with your efforts!

I wish we could all get past the word "diet". The original meaning of diet was "the food you consume to live".  It is what keeps our body going and is a good thing!  We tend to sabotage words..........for instance a drug now means a bad drug...........it is most often medicine and not bad!  Semantics does cause lots of problems.  We all have diets, we should probably not "be on one", but have a healthy one!  How about that for a Monday morning rant.  Hard weekend on my choice of foods, but fun!  I am  back to my healthy diet plan today.  Don't agonize over a mistep, just resume your healthy diet.

I seem to be stuck the last two weeks, still counting but the scales are slowly creeping up instead of going where I want them to go.  this weekend I had a girl's weekend away.  I ate much more than usual over the last six months, but in no way did I grossly overeat..  So we shall see what happens, if it is like my past experience the weight will take a month of careful counting to get rid of and that will get me back to my previous weight, not lower.  I think my body just doesn't understand this "eat more to lose more routine".  But it was one fun weekend!  I need a better educated body that understands that 3500 calories is needed to gain a pound!

Weight Loss Clothing Sizes Mar 01 2009

Sizing has definitely gotten to be more "user complimentary".  I think it really varies also according to the maker.  For instance LL Bean and Coldwater Creek ten to run large, you can almost always buy a size smaller than you think you would need.  I think they like to play games with our heads and I think some of us like it!

Already being the short height of 5'1", I'm screwed when i become elderly. Surprised

Hang in there!  You will find "elderly" is a fun time and the pounds on many of us come off at the same rate as when we were younger.  You adjust.  I exercise for 15 minutes 3 times a day instead of 45 minutes at one time.  Keeps my metabolism up and if I eat healthy, the pounds go.  If not, the pounds come!  I think there is too much analyzing of weight loss and gain.  It is pretty straight forward for most of us.  Eat too much, exercise too little..........hello! you gain weigh.  Eat healthy, exercise regularly...........you stay the same or lose.  I agree with the earlier post that contended people under count calories.

I find this troublesome too but understand what is going on.  Having said that I do think there are some people who in their desparation to lose weight would be pulled into these sites.  But they probably would get there anyway!  The ability to google brings it all to our pc's.

Personally I am just grateful for the service that CC provides as I am sure most people are.  There is a side effect to all of this.  I have read repeatedly comments from people who have used some of these "black magic" cures for the fats and never have seen one that said "This is the answer to your problem"  Maybe suggestions to check it out with posters on this site might be the best way  to combat these empty promises.

Weight Loss where to weigh Feb 27 2009

I think it is very important IF YOU WEIGH,  to weigh on the same scale all the time.  The numbers don't matter to me as much as the direction in which they are going.  I bought a digital scale that retains my last weight and I am most interested in whether it is going up, down, or stays the same...........and it does all three.  I find that scales vary too much to just weigh randomly.

Sorry but I don't think running for two weeks, probably even two months would make your muscles "weigh more".  Most authorities say this is one of the myths that is passed on.  If anyone has authoritative information that this is wrong I would love to read it.  It takes a lot of muscle to make you weigh more and very few people reach that point.........and surely not in two weeks!

Bibsey, it's not that muscle weighs more (lb=lb) it's that with exercise (read: not "DIETING") lean muscle mass increases while fat cells shrink (lb=lb)

The "myth" I think you're thinking of is that muscle weighs more than fat.

Could have sworn that was what I said!  We are on the same page.  My point was that 2 weeks of running will not make much difference in making you "weigh more".

As happens so often, I agree with Jane!  I think many of us eat too much, underestimating our calories, leaving things out "by accident", over estimate our exercise, etc.  As far as "feeling good " Just trying to be healthy makes me feel better and it is sure a good first step but I find that for me personally when the scales don't move over a two week time, it comes directly back to the fact that I have eaten too much or exercised too little.  The truth hurts sometime but I do believe, for me, that is the truth.  Hard not to lose with calorie control and exercise.  There are a few people who find themselves in this spot but not many.

Weight Loss Benefits of vinegar Feb 20 2009

Thanks Emily, I read the Web MD and just the possibility of loss of bone density is enough for me.  That is all too a prominent condition with people my age and I think I will skip the extra vinegar!  I do use balsamic vinegar for salad dressing and will continue.

Weight Loss Suddenly ravenous Feb 20 2009

ALWAYS EAT SOMETHING WHEN YOU ARE RAVENOUS!   Just eat the right kind of food and give yourself a few minutes to react to what you eat before you eat everything in sight!  It usually works for me.  Occasionally I head back to the pantry too soon and have to say "wait a few minutes" and usually the ravenous feeling goes away after a reasonable snack, which I count in my calories for the day.
