swearimn - Ohhh... nice. Did your friend's dad give you a diet to follow, or was it just "eat alot and eat protein"? I think I eat fairly well, not perfect, but I eat as much as I like of mostly fresh foods and I don't restrict... maybe a little more protein would be good. I pretty much stay the same weight it seems no matter how I eat! monalisamonkey - No, the nrol programs do not switch every workout, but you are supposed to try to increase the weight each time. Some of his hypertrophy programs had you switch number of reps and sets each time, so one time was 5 sets of 6, then next time you did that workout, it would be 3 sets of 15. He had 4 different reps/set schemes and 3 different alternating workouts. So I think that was enough of a change. Each program lasts 4-8 weeks. rosieblue - thanks for the encouragement. It would be nice to see more for the efforts though! I will try and post some new pics maybe tomorrow.... and try a little better posing as dabrok suggested and maybe that will help. The pics I have posted are older and I may have made some progress since then, albeit small.

Original Post by gies71: Thanks for your reply. NROL is the original workout book by Alwyn Cosgrove for men..... the "for women" version followed. 1. As far as protein. That could be it. I love my meat and I do a protein shake after working out, but I don't seem to be satisfied unless I have my carbs. I try to make them healthy carbs like sweet potatoe or wheat pasta instead of white and only eat whole wheat bread. I haven't counted in a while, so it may be that I am not getting enough protein. 2. I was thinking this could be the case with my arms. I probably should try a different method. I am going to try the workout that was posted above next, but would love to get some others from you too if you have some! Maybe I do just need a different style of workout for a while. Both of the books I followed were from Cosgrove and he has some underlying beliefs in both books. Each of books have several programs lasting anywhere from 4-8 weeks, but are built completely around compound lifts and no isolation at all. |

dabrok - thank you for the link. I have done NROL hypertrophy I & II programs, but those have lots more volume and different from the link you provided. I am currently doing strength I out of NROL and will probably go ahead and try the program on your link next! Jdunckel - yes I DO only workout 3X a week at most. Lately, I have to push myself to actually get 3X in a week and I do take a week break every once in a while. I am not gaining or losing, so calories should be ok. |

Original Post by yogagirl6853: Again - this was VERY RUDE to say on an AMERICAN site ---- from someone who is also overweight!! Case closed. Truth hurts - you like being called fat? "wooo such a wonderful thing to be proud of" No one said they were proud of being overweight - are you? |

Thank you liz - that is an appropriate way to say it... My objection to healthinsin's comment was to the apparent rudeness and hatred of Americans. I would never go to another country (or a website from one) and start pointing out how terrible a people they are. It is plain old rude.... especially as a thin preson and it coming from an overweight one. |

You don't like it - GO HOME! Go find a weight loss site in Norway where you can talk about how bad Americans are all you want. |

Healthisin - nice, real nice. I come across posts on here of American's spending time in Europe and gaining weight. How come you are trying to lose weight? You don't live in the USA so shouldn't you be skinny? & how come you come to an American site to lose weight & diss Americans so rudely? I have to say - I am a proud American and I am at an IDEAL weight. |

One of my favorite articles from whyquit.com - Joel's Library - Joel is ok with anyone copying to help others, just by posting where it came from! By Joel: How do you feel about a friend who has to go everywhere with you? Not only does he tag along all the time, but since he is so offensive and vulgar, you become unwelcome when with him. He has a peculiar odor that sticks to you wherever you go. Others think both of you stink. He controls you totally. When he says jump, you jump. Sometimes in the middle of a blizzard or storm, he wants you to come to the store and pick him up. You would give your spouse hell if he or she did that to you all the time, but you can't argue with your friend. Sometimes, when you are out at a movie or play he says he wants you to go stand in the lobby with him and miss important scenes. Since he calls all the shots in your life, you go. Your friend doesn't like your choice of clothing either. Instead of politely telling you that you have lousy taste, he burns little holes in these items so you will want to throw them out. Sometimes, he tires of the furniture and gets rid of it too. Occasionally, he gets really nasty and decides the whole house must go. He gets pretty expensive to support. Not only is his knack of property destruction costly, but you must pay to keep him with you. In fact, he will cost you thousands of dollars over your lifetime. And you can count on one thing, he will never pay you a penny in return. Often at picnics you watch others playing vigorous activities and having lots of fun doing them. But your friend won't let you. He doesn't believe in physical activity. In his opinion, you are too old to have that kind of fun. So he kind of sits on your chest and makes it difficult for you to breathe. Now you don't want to go off and play with other people when you can't breathe, do you? Your friend does not believe in being healthy. He is really repulsed by the thought of you living a long and productive life. So every chance he gets he makes you sick. He helps you catch colds and flu. Not just by running out in the middle of the lousy weather to pick him up at the store. He is more creative than that. He carries thousands of poisons with him which he constantly blows in your face. When you inhale some of them, they wipe out cilia in your lungs which would have helped you prevent these diseases. But colds and flu are just his form of child's play. He especially likes diseases that slowly cripple you—like emphysema. He considers this disease great. Once he gets you to have this, you will give up all your other friends, family, career goals, activities—everything. You will just sit home and caress him, telling him what a great friend he is while you desperately gasp for air. But eventually your friend tires of you. He decides he no longer wishes to have your company. Instead of letting you go your separate ways, he decides to kill you. He has a wonderful arsenal of weapons behind him. In fact, he has been plotting your death since the day you met him. He picked all the top killers in society and did everything in his power to ensure you would get one of them. He overworked your heart and lungs. He clogged up the arteries to your heart, brain, and every other part of your body. In case you were too strong to succumb to this, he constantly exposed you to cancer causing agents. He knew he would get you sooner or later. Well, this is the story of your "friend," your cigarette. No real friend would do all this to you. Cigarettes are the worst possible enemies you ever had. They are expensive, addictive, socially unacceptable, and deadly. Consider all this and NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF! Joel |

Quitting smoking is all about getting an education! There are tons of cold turkey articles that really, really help at www.whyquit.com. Reading there, you will learn that tapering down does not help and that in fact nicotine is an addiction like any other and needs to be treated like an addiction. You wouldn't tell an alcoholic to taper down the drinks. Anyway, check out the site. Same kind of info as Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking. Whyquit.com was very helpful for me in explaining what I would be going thru each phase of the process. The only way to quit is to break the addiction. Only one puff of tobacco would put a quit smoker back on the smoking track. You can do this! From my quit-meter: I have been quit for 1 Year, 5 Months, 1 Week, 6 Days, 21 hours, 10 minutes and 31 seconds (531 days). I have saved $3,324.26 by not smoking 13,297 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Month, 2 Weeks, 1 Day, 4 hours and 5 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 4/16/2008 5:00 PM |

I skipped break in! I am glad I did. I needed to move on to something different after stage 7 and was tired of 15 reps. Like Megan, I went straight to FLII, but not so sure that was a good choice for me. FL II was HARD, especially the bulgarian split squat with overhead press! It starts with 12 reps & works the reps down. I would have preferred something with less reps. FYI - Didn't know if you knew that in the NROLFW group there is a "Life after NROLFW" forum.

173 pounds does not sound overweight for 5'10" male. Maybe you could concentrate more on lifting weights and getting some muscle rather than the scale. More muscle may help you burn more calories and lose some of the fat..... like more of a body-recomposition. |

I am doing NROL after NROLFW and am finding NROL alot harder. Some of the NROLFW stages were longer workouts (stage 4-5), but I am finding the NROL for the most part has more volume. I did Starting Strength for a month or so.... but didn't find it to be "enough". |

All of this America bashing is really making me sick. If we are sooooo bad, then why do all these people from OTHER countries want to live here? We have all kinds of foreigners living here ---- Indian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Russian, the list goes on. OF COURSE we were justified in going after someone who bombed our buildings in the middle of NY!!! What are we supposed to do... say "hey - come bomb the rest of our buildings - we got lots".??

You say you've got muscle, but no definition. I don't see any stats or pics, but could you possibly have a layer of fat over the muscle? If that is the case, you would need to shed that before the muscle looks "defined". |

Good job on getting started! Your exercise is good as long as you are getting the results you want! I would suggest more strength training to keep your muscles as you are losing weight (which is more a function of diet anyway). Maybe you can do a longer strength training using more resistance every other day instead of your walk/jog.

Following quote by territalk - Copied from another thread..........Wow - in this day and age, this still exists?
territalk - Judging by this thread, obviosly you are not interested in being "politically correct". Your posts are ridiculous! Even if Suzanne Summers JUNK worked for you, you really don't need to shove it down anyone's throat. Maybe you should respect other's opinions just like you want your opinions respected. Give out what you want....... Calling names and being so rude, not to mention your articulate vocabulary consisting of a bunch of swear words, is downright....... well - you can fill in the blank better than I. |

You are definitely doing the right thing! Once it is all over you will look back and be so glad you are out of that situation. The guy is a creep. I know you live in CA, so I am not sure what the divorce rules are there. Here in Michigan, there is what is called a "no-fault divorce". They assume it is the fault of both - two to tango sort of thing. So, even if CA is like that too, just always know in your case it is most definitely NOT YOU!!! Just get out as fast as you can! |

SLEEPING WITH A PROSTITUTE???? You are not with a "difficult husband" - you are with an A@@ HOLE! Really - I don't even know why you would question staying. Do NOT try marriage counseling - It is NOT you. If you get counseling - get it for yourself and discover why you would want to be with such a JERK! |

Raven - total of 60 lunges-15 per set each leg. These are alternating. So you would step up with your left leg, lunge, step back with your left leg... step up with your right leg, lunge, step back with your right leg.... that is one rep. I just counted to 30 as I was doing each leg to make it easier. Then do crunches Then do "30 lunges" then do crunches. |
