clg7357- i did personal training and loveddd it! it was expensive but so worth it because when i was paying to get trained i also went more besides my pt, i saw a lot of results, i stopped because I hurt my knee and am just able to start getting back into training with my PT. and i can't wait only 3 more weeks!

Fitness Elliptical Confusion Feb 24 2009

Even with adding in your weight and height, it doesn't have your exact heart rate constantly like a heart moniter does and even if you place your hand on the bars the entire time, its not always entirely accurate because you can move your hand or not have it in the right position and it will affect your calories burned. I really suggest a heart moniter. i LOVE my polar watch and i'd say 99% of the time I burn more calories than the machine says and I can put an exact number of calories burned rather than trying to guesstimate with websites! for example I have a treadmill at home and I walked for one hour with hill intervals and according my treadmill i burned 405 calories however according to my polar heart montier i burned 517 calories!

Recipes Food alternatives? Feb 15 2009

for milk alternatives you can have tons of stuff!

i personally love rice milk yummm, the chocolate is the best but you can get it unsweetened, there is also almond milk, soy milk or any lactose free milk which shouldn't irritate your stomach but the taste is hard to get used too. you can go to safeway and you should be able to find all those items so it won't be a speciality store item.

for a bread go for gluten free bread but make sure you read labels! again gluten free bread takes time to get used too. go online and you can find tons of blogs and websites about doing a gluten free diet and foods.

http://www.csaceliacs.org/gluten_grains.php -this is a great website listening all the alternatives to wheat!

hope that helped

Weight Loss eat meter vs. burn meter question Feb 14 2009
01:27 (UTC)

okay im confused about it too because i eat 1400- 1500 calories a day (i'm 5'5 & 129 lbs) and my burn meter is 1920 per day before exercise. so it seems whenever i exercise my deficit becomes almost 1000 calories but am i really suppose to eat another 500 calories to make up for that? that would put me at almost 2000 calories a day which i know is way too much for my body's needs. help!

Weight Loss Gain weight when its my time of the month??? Feb 14 2009

yup i usually gain around 7 lbs eep! but the day after i finish im back to normal. the key thing that my doctor told me is to up my water intake and keep my sodium really low. its just really off putting to getting on the scale and all the sudden im 7 lbs heavier. so i avoid the scale like the plague during that time of the month.

Hi all,

So I've been MIA for the past two weeks :( I got sick and then the exercise stopped and then the chocolate oh lord. everything seem to pile on top of each other i fell off the wagon :( god thats depressing and i know it happens and i can't beat myself up but its just really frustrating and made me not want to post because i'd have to admit it. so i'm back and getting back on it...slowly. i have started eating healthier and getting back to the gym. the way i think of it is at least i got back on and didn't give up. anywho.

so my 12 week consistency goals are.....

1. drink at least 3 liters of water especially when im exercising because i'm just so much crankier without it.

2. eat more vegetables...i get enough fruit but i need to eat more veggies!

3. a) exercise 5 times a week, doesn't have to be in the gym just some form of exercise at least 5 times a week

 b) run a 5 k! this is my most exciting one that i'm going to try. i'll keep you guys posted on my attempts at running haha. (this is sub goal of 3 :) haha )

4. lose 5 of the 10 lbs i still want to lose....ugh why are they so hard!? it seems like the first 20 was easy compared to this :(

thanks! its good to be back.

ps ofelecia...i love love love your goal of knitting! i am a knitting addict, i work in labor and delivery and we knit hats for the premies :) and i agree if im knitting im not eating!

hello everyone! sorry that i've been mia this past week! I was sick and then work was just crazy. ugh even my logging calories lagged :( but I'm determined to get back on track. Still haven't weighed myself because I don't want to be all excited about the weight I know I lost simply because I did nothing but lay around for a week straight and really didn't eat that much and so it's not really weight loss. What I'm amazed about is how much harder my strength training is now that I've been out of the gym for only 6 days! I was dying after 10 minutes of training with my personal trainer :( I felt sad and just ehhhh. I'm slowly getting back in the groove of things but I'm off to Chicago on Friday for the weekend and that derails me yet again. I'm looking forward to being able to have the rest of October/November with no big commitments so I can just get back into my groove of exercising. Its weird how much I now miss it! But I'm trying not to be hard on myself and keep thinking that its not like I failed, I just got a little derailed (haha it rhymes) for a couple days and I'm getting right back on that horse. :) I've got to run but I'll be back later to answer the weekly question! Just wanted to give a quick update on my break! Thanks for everyone for the motivating messages :)

Best of Luck,

Christine

THIS WEEK'S TOPIC:

What are your mental, emotional and/or spiritual strategies to meet your health and wellness goals?

For me the big thing is not to be so emotionally tied to my weight/dress size. I used to put so much value into those numbers and felt like a failure if I wasn't at a certain size. The big thing for me is to really focus on how I feel and look rather than what that number is. If I feel fantastic, I don't worry that maybe my number has gone down only 1 more lb. Maybe that's 5 lbs of fat lost and 4 lbs of muscle gained. who cares. Overcoming the number is my best strategy to keep going at a healthy and not crash diet to get that number for 2 days then it all goes to hell.

sorry i've been mia for the past week, I've had this nasty flu the past week and just sleeping as much as I can. This is the first day I can look at the computer screen without getting nauseous! i haven't gone to the gym since tuesday and ugh I'm feeling it. I know im sick which doesn't help and I don't go to the gym if I'm feeling under the weather because my body needs rest and not exercise at this moment. but i just feel like all my muscle is melting away and i'm just feeling a little down and flabby :( i know i'll be able to get back in the gym soon enough and start feeling strong again but right now its jut a little depressing. i'm off to bed again. hope everyone is doing well!

What is your Wagon Jumping cycle? When is the diet or lifestyle change too much? How can you make it easy and fun for yourself so that you can sustain this change across the long term, through busy times at work/school, hard times with family/friends, and down times when you feel low?

hey all!

work has been crazy! this week and its made responding pretty much impossible! but i finally have a moment to breathe and got to read through all the responses.

I started doing the wagon jumping cycle right after I started to lose weight because I figure hey I've earned the right to eat a candy bar. Only that candy bar turns into 2 or 3 and then fries and so on and so on and then all the sudden I was right back where I started or even heavier. I also used to go to the extremes when I dieted/exercised. I'd start out and cut all the "bad" food out all at once and only eat super super healthy and exercise 5 days a week for at least an hour all at once. and I'd keep it up for a little but eventually poof I'd fall right off that wagon and back into the loving comforting arms of my chocolate ice cream. for me the big thing is I can't make things off limits because the minute they are, I want it, in costco size amounts. so I just make room for them in my diet, its still a struggle, I have moments that I'll eat 3 cookies instead of 1 and go oops. but i just stop and realize okay its not the end of the world and I don't need to just give up everything I've been doing. im slowly getting there.

personal update:

so I'm still at 129 and holding, haven't lost anymore weight :( but I know the last ten lbs are going to be harder than the first 20. i've been considering for awhile changing up my exercise routine, its been the same for about 2 months now and its been doing great for me but i feel like shaking it up a bit.

currently im at MWF spin class for an hour and TTh weight training with my personal trainer for an hour

what im considering is

M- pilates reform for an hour (omgosh so i just started this class and it kicked my butt but I loved it)

T- weight training for an hour (with PT)

W- spin class for an hour

Th- yogalites for an hour then weight training for an hour

F- spin class for an hour

my foods been going pretty well except I started my period this weekend which sent me into carb/sugar craving overdrive and I pretty much gave into it. Luckily I didn't do any damage and I'm back on my normal eating patterns.

Good luck to everyone! and Happy staying on the Wagon.

Christine

hi all!

i'm christine and i'm new to group! i look forward to getting to know all of you.

Weight Loss can i loose weight only eating veggies?////?????????? Sep 07 2008

in a short answer to your question. no you will not lose weight eating like that.

you need to eat way more than 600 calories a day! you're currently starving your body and so of course when you put anything in your body its going to hang on to all of it because it doesn't know when it will be fed again. (which is why when you ate "alot" you gained all that weight) in order to lose weight you must eat a mininum of 1200 thats what most women's bodies need in order to function. also how tall are you? that makes a huge difference as well.

being a vegan is a serious commitment, i really hope you went to a doctor and discussed it with them first. i was a vegetarian for 6 years and a vegan for 1, its a huge commitment. its not just about vegetables, you need protein, iron, certain vitamins. and you can't just take suppliments. it shouldn't be used as a way to lose weight. it doesnt work like that, trust me there are fat vegans. if you want to be a vegan, do your research and take the time. don't look at it as a way to lose weight, its a way of life.

Health & Support Lost Tampon Problem! Sep 06 2008
22:57 (UTC)

So don't feel bad, it happens to more women than you (I'm an RN and I've been told horror stories) But trust me if you had TSS you would know already and probably be in the ER. So that's not really a concern. The only thing I'd be concerned about is infection from leaving the tampon in especially if it was scented (which can irritate the vaginal walls). I'd go to your gyno especially if you're still have discharge and/or foul smell. But please whatever you do don't douche or try to flush out your vagina! It first of all won't get rid of your infection and second will in all likelyhood make it worse or spread it farther up. good luck!

Fitness what's the very best yoga dvd for weight lose? Sep 06 2008
22:19 (UTC)

http://www.gaiam.com/category/media-library/y oga-dvds/yoga-for-beginners.do

this website has some good yoga dvd. personally i love bikram yoga unfortuantly it has to be done at a studio (it's heated to 105 degrees). but these are great for at home.

Fitness 2 months with no workout. can you help me with a new plan? Sep 06 2008
22:10 (UTC)

i lost 20 lbs by myself then hit a major plateau 5 months with no weight loss then i started to gain weight needless to say I started to panic a little bit. i broke down and decided to hire a personal training, best decision of my life. honestly it was/is worth every penny. not only did it make me go to the gym (I'm pay her an ungodly amount each session and you can't cancel unless an extreme emergency so I had to go) but I wanted to keep going because I was putting in the effort for the weight training. so haha that story ended up being a little longer than i meant. but the point is I would really encourage getting a personal trainer if you can afford it. It helps with the motivation and you have someone there pushing you. I see my personal trainer twice a week (T/TH) for an hour and she does a mix of cardio and weight training. and then go do spinning (MWF) for an hour. It took me awhile to get up to that much cardio a week, so pace yourself, if you go all out you are more likely to burn out.  go at your own pace!! the best advice i can give is don't compare yourself to anyone because no one is the same. Find something that you love to do and that will be the best motivation ever.

ps feel free to message me. i'd be more than happy to share my workout plans that I do with my trainer and great websites or anything! good luck!!
