Im maintaing my weight. Well, it fluctuates daily. I have been as high as 120, and as low as 117. But I know that if it is fluctuating it is't real weight. I am on workout 5 of Stage 1. I have noticed a slight decrease in my waist line. ( no real difference in measurements but I can "feel" it. I have also discovered new muscles in my arms!!!  I just feel stronger so I know that means I am making positive changes. My muscles hold ALOT of water, so this might explain your weight gain. Also, I upped my cals to the numbers they give in the book, and I saw an INSTANT gain of 3 lbs, and it is just now starting to fluctuate downward. ( that could explain it to) Also you are probably replacing fat with muscle, just not enough to show a difference in measurements yet. ( newbie gains) Keep up with it!! Im doing HIIT 3x weekly for 15min after each workout. ( maybe try that) Then I am only in the gym 3x a week but get an intense fat burning workout.

Stress and anxiety aren't good for weight loss. THe minute I decided that I wanted to be in the best shape possible and to make my body "work" for me ( gain muscle=burn fat) and to ignore the number on the scale I started to feel the differences my program was making. I suggest you dont weigh yourself for awhile. Stay at a 300 cal defict , dont overtrain, and eat all your cals EVERYDAY!! You want to feed the metabolism fire!!!

P.S.I don't eat "clean" so to speak.....I eat all the protein required and whole grains and salad with every meal, but at night I enjoy a cupcake or two, or perhaps ice cream etc. I stay within my calorie range, but I enjoy my starbucks lattes and cupcakes too.!!

My advice: Don't stress and give yourself and your body a break. Do the program at a deficit and by the book. Don;t overtrain and hinder your progress. BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!! You are doing great things for your body!! ( and if you can't explain your weight gain with extra calories ( like 17,000over) then it isn't real weight. It may just take you longer to get off that initial cal upping weight gain. Think logically about it! Do the numbers!!

I just started the program I have done two workouts and I am loving it!!! I do HIIT for 15 min after each workout...2 min warmup at 3.5mph, 10 minutes 1min hard , 1 min easy ( hard=9.0mph, and easy 4.5mph) then a 3 min cooldown at 3.5 mph. ( all on a treadmill) this was my HIIT program before I started NROLFW so I just kept it. I do it 3x  a week after my nrolfw workout. I think the HIIT workouts they include are good to start with because you will need to work up to a more difficult program , it is VERY intense. Good luck!!!

Thank you all very much! I am excited  to make the cauliflower because he is kind of sick of mashed potatoes and he will love that. It is also a good way to get his veggies in. I guess I was having trouble because when he was less sick I  would come down and make 3 weeks of food and froze it for him and I was able to make steaks, lasagna, breads, cakes , cookies  and everything. I can still make those things I just have to puree it but it just looks so awful, and he HATES the pureed food but has finally stopped fighting it because he chokes on everything. I just want to spice up his meals to keep them interesting , because he is eating less and less.

He loves sweets so I have also been making banana bread pudding and chocolate cream pies and I mix in two huge scoops of whey protein so that even if he just eats the cake he is getting enough nutrition to support his lean muscle mass!!  ( but I do have to say it is hard to not lick those bowls of pudding clean!!! :) )

Thank you again!!!! Keep the ideas coming!!

I just want to thank you guys for your feedback.... I started the program tonight and I am already loving it and cant wait to get back to the gym!! I was so nice to not be there two hours!! It was tough, but quick! Im incorporating HIIT with this program. As I am already into a HIIT program and do not want to give that up, and since it is incorporated in Stage 2 I do not think it will hinder my success to start it now. Does anyone do this?? I am currently doing HIIT 3x weekly , and am thinking that I should cut it down to two days for this program. I do not want to overtrain or deter my success. My goal is to maintain my weight but lose my last bit of body fat. Im going to follow the calorie requirements pretty close. Im 5'6", 24 years old, and 116-118 lbs, so I will be eating 1900 (off days) and 2150 ( lifting days). Plus upping my protein has proven to be extremely easy, I am easily hitting 120 grams a day!!! This program is so empowering and I hope I see results......When did you all start to notice results? I know everyone is different I am just interested, and were you doing the program at a deficit, and with other exercise or completely by the book???

So I am starting my first workout with NROLFW today!! Im so excited! I just want to clear up exactly what I am supposed to do...It just looks easy!!

So i begin with Workout A  I do exercise A the squat for 2 sets 15 reps, then B1 push-ups for one set 15 reps, then B2 Seated row 1 set 15 reps, than repeat that. THen I begin C1 step-up 1 set 15 reps, then C2 prone jackknife 1 set 15 reps, and then repeat. Then im done??? Thats only 10 sets?? Is that right??

Then I rest a day and I will do Workout B the same way

Then rest a day and go back to Workout A the same way

Then rest a day and go back to WOrkout B the same way

Then rest a day and go to Workout A but go down to workout 3 and do those reps and sets right??/

I have been doing squats with a barbell, with about 65 lbs, and lunges with 2 15 lb dumbells.. should I start there or bring it down a bit just for the beginning....what weights did you all start with?

I think EVERY WOMAN has had bad body issues NO matter what her shape or size. We also have to remember that we are MUCH MORE critical of ourselves than the men in our lives. Please don't forget that your husband loves you and is NOT looking at your squishy thighs or your protruding belly. I can tell you honestly they are very distracted during "the act" and it is not with the negatives of your body. Confidence ( even faking it) helps to improve the way others view you. People will learn how to treat you by mimicing how you treat yourself. Love you for the woman that you are and close your eyes and think sexy thoughts. Get out of your head, and just for a few minutes, believe what he says, and KNOW that he thinks you are sexy....Just believe , just choose to believe it for those minutes. You will be amazed how freeing it is to simply let go of all the stupid hang-ups and just enjoy the attention your husband is giving you. Maybe view it as  being brave....Do a strip tease for him, and dont make an excuse for any part of you body, and smile the whole time as if you are having a better time then him. Challenge yourself with that and I promise you you will be happy and so will he!

P.S...Your husband has already seen you naked. There isn't anything he doesnt know about. and he hasn't run for the hills. Instead he is begging for that body of yours!!!!

Weight Loss Another calorie question Nov 02 2008

It depends on if you are exercising as well. I will use myself as an example....Im 5'6", 24 years old, and about 118 lbs. Im at my goal weight and I am doing NROLFW 3x weekly, and light cardio 2x weekly, and I am maintaining on 2,000- 2,300 calories per day. My CC calculator says that sedentary I burn 1600 so I would assume yours would be higher. I would say start at least at 1600-1800, incorporate strength training and some cardio (don't go overboard) and see how that goes. Everyone is different, but I have learned that a combo of diet and exercise, plus making sure you are eating enough is the best way to attack weight loss. You want to keep your metabolism alive and burning so you need to give it fuel...( food :) ) Eating five or six meals a day also worked for me, plus loads of protein.. Plus you need to make changes that are realistic to long term weight loss, so don't deprive yourself, make changes you can LIVE with! I hope I have helped....I got assistance from so many people here and I hope I can now start to pass the wisdom on...

Thank you very much!! I appreciate the advice. It is very weird to actually be nervous to up my calories....before I started dieting ( for no reason, I really didnt need to lose weight) I could eat whatever I wanted and was still at 125, and never past that. Now I think I have done some damage to my metabolism....I will up them and see how I do. Im not too worried about the number on the scale, just how I feel in my clothes, and look in the mirror. Also as I get older , I want to be the healthiest I can be as I plan to have children in the next couple of years..So if you have any tips for boosting my metabolism back, let me know! THank you again!

Foods Not drinking enough water Oct 20 2008
22:05 (UTC)

So here is what I do.....I drink a liter of water when I go to the gym daily, and then probably one or two cups more later on in the day. But I can never drink much more than that because it is far too boring. So I FILL the teapot with water, and heat it up. I then take a few teabags of flavored caffeine free tea..( apple cider tea, raspberry, blueberry, mango, etc...)  I sit on my couch, and watch tv, and drink my tea. I just keep refilling the mug. I end up drinking like six cups...seriously I distract myself with the flavors and with the tv or computer.....it works!!! PLus it keeps hunger pains away and helps me to avoid "Boredom" eating....hope that helps!

I know this post is old, but I am going through the same thing. I actually searched and found this post. I am 5'6" 118lbs, 24 and VERY happy with my weight and my body. I am maintaining, but some days my thighs feel HUGE, and there is cellulite on them. Then miraculously a day or two later and the skin is tight again and it looks and feels smooth. I know that this is obviously water weight, but I eat carely any sodium ( less than 1,500mg a day) and exercise ( walking, HIIT, weight training) 5 x a week.....Did you figure anything out.??

P.S> I drink a ridiculous amount of water daily....

You could always get up a little early and do a quick 30 min Interval training on the treadmill. You can start with walking at different sppeds, because you are a beginner, and then go up from there. This will also keep you away from a plateau. It isnt too boring because you are always switching up your speeds and it goes by quick! Plus it is the best way to lose body fat, because it gets your metabolism kicking all day. Or you could do some strength training , this can even be done at home. (pushups, squats, crunches etc.) Switch it up and alternate days between cardio and strangth training, and you will see results very quickly!

GNC has these great protein drinks called Protein Plus Shakes. They have no aspartame and are 160 calories. They also have 35 grams of protein and taste good. I use them as a snack between meals and it is very helpful at reaching my protein goal for the day. They are also great for after a workout!

SO I just found my second love.....A grilled veggie pita...ok so there are these whole wheat pitas with only 60 calories for the WHOLE THING!! So I take onions, mushrooms, peppers in a skillet with some pam and let it all cook. Then I split it down the middle and make two piles. THen I place a slice of fat free cheese on each. Let it melt a bit then load it into the pita. ( i usually cut the pita in half so I have two pockets....This is SOOO filling and flavorful and it only has around 250 calories!!!! SERIOUSLY!!

Is that minimum 1200 calories daily, what you eat or what you net? Example: I eat 1500 calories a day but workout 5x a week about 700 calories. So am I under that 1200 mark because I am netting only 800 calories,or am I ok because I am consuming 1500???
