I use 30 calorie per tbsp Hummus (from Costco) or "Hungry Girl Guacamole" as a sandwich spread. I also like to use bbq sauce.
Anything with around 30 calories per tbsp is good to put in a low-calorie tortilla sandwich! I like the reduced-fat mayo from hellman's. It's only 35 calories per tbsp and it tastes exactly the same! I can't tell the difference from the original! |

I just went to Costco and say "Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edaname". Let me tell you about the AMAZING nutrition facts: 1/4 cup has only 130 calories, 4 grams of fat, 8 grams of fiber, 14 grams of protein! I ALWAYS bring pre-portioned zip-lock bags of these AMAZING and delicious beans! They taste just like peanuts but with less fat and better nutritionals! Also... I travel across the Atlantic so here's my two cents: Veggies: Carrots, Peppers, Soybeans, and even black beans all travel well Fruit: Apples, Grapes, Pears, Bananas, Apricots, Prunes, Cherries, all travel really well! I find that bananas are the easiest to carry though, but if you travel often it can get kind of boring! Nuts: 1/4 cup (or 30 grams) of nuts with a piece of fruit will starve off hunger for a while due to it's high fat content Hard Cheese: Reduced-fat HARD cheese travels very well and tastes delicious. At Costco, they have reduced-fat cheddar cheese in four different kinds of flavors! Pair a serving of cheese (70 calories, 8 grams of protein) with an apple or another high-fiber fruit and it will keep you full very long! Old-Fashioned Sandwich: This is actually my favorite. Make yourself a whole wheat sandwich with a slice of reduced-fat hard cheese like Cheddar, Colby, Swiss, Parmesan, Provolone or Romano (all of these are safe to eat when not in the fridge) and add a slice of roast beef, turkey, ham, etc... If you want, add some mustard, relish, or even light mayo (safe to eat as well when not in the fridge unlike popular belief!) to the sandwich and wrap it with some foil to take it to-go! Do not use fat free mayo. It does not taste well. What you should do is use liquid egg whites to coat the chicken or potatoes. It will not affect the taste. |

Start each meal with a HUGE spinach salad (I am talking about the size of a family bowl! SO HUGE!) with red wine vinegar. You will consume about 25 calories and you will get sooo full that when you actually eat your meal, you will be too full to continue! |

What about putting it in a blender with some italian spices or herbs, and some salt and basically use it to "bread chicken, etc..." in the oven?! |

Definetly start with a large spinach salad coated with vinegar (no oil) as this way you can get a super large salad for only about 25 calories. Then, eat your regular tuna sandwiches, etc... I have found that adding a low calorie salad before my meal makes me stay fuller longer than just eating a sandwich. And you're only adding 25 calories and many great nutrients! So next time, bring a garden salad to work (freshly washed) and then bring vinegar on the side so that you can start with the salad and then eat your sandwich. Good luck! |

| Fitness | Does saunas burn calories? If so, how much? | Apr 04 2009 21:20 (UTC) |

Hey! Okay so most people will tell you that a sauna only makes you sweat and that you lose water weight. However, I have a sauna in like every single one of my houses and I am OBSESSED with them! In the summer, I get really lazy and don't exercise (I know I should) but I just do a 30 minute sauna and work up a nice sweat (make sure that you are sweating intensely) and they keep me skinny...the only muscle being workout on is the heart but keep doing saunas ! |

| Foods | Does fat-free cheddar cheese make good quesedillas? | Mar 28 2009 23:34 (UTC) |

I actually like to get my grilled sandwich maker and put them on low so I let the cheese melt without burning the bread! They key to a great tasting sandwich (especially when using fat free cheeses, and low carb breads is to use LOW HEAT for a longer time and then eat it right away!) I have tried fat free american and fat free cheddar and they are both good. I might add some tomato slices to my grilled cheese next time. Also, fat free mozarella is suppose to be okay since its mild flavor. |

You should try buying plain fat free yogurt and make your own flavors by using fresh or frozen fruit and some brown sugar or whatever...most fat free yogurts contain artificial sweetners. |

I made the onion rings but when I used the 1/2 cup of Fiber One cereal I added freshly ground sea salt, freshly ground pepper, and 1 whole garlic clove. I made sure that it was very well crushed and mixed in the blender. I used egg beaters and they came out great! Nice and crispy too! Maybe I'll make the same using potatoes or the butternut squash (like literally fried with the breadcrumbs) |

When I was losing weight, I remember getting to be 92 pounds. Anyways, I usually binge when I am home on the weekends because I am not used to eating delicious food. 25 percent of Americans binge eat, so you are NOT alone! Remember that it is very common, but also it would be great if you would go get some professional help. |

| Recipes | Hungry Girl Blueberry Pancakes (Low Calorie, Low-Fat) | Mar 22 2009 02:01 (UTC) |
|
I tried them, and I LOVED THEM! Okay so the calorie count without the blueberries (not a fan) is only 173 calories, Fiber: 3.8 g, Protein: 11.6 g and with 1/4 cup of sugar free syrup (30 calories) it's going to be 203 calories. I love chocolate chip pancakes but I hate the fat of chocolate chips and calories so I added 1 tsp of unsweetened dutch (imported) cocoa powder (4 calories) mixed with 3-4 packets of Equal and I added that on top to garnish. I also added fresh strawberries and OMG IT WAS SOOO GOOOD!!!! I also didn't even eat them with maple syrup and I STILL LOVED THEM! All you need is fresh fruit and nice cocoa powder and you are ALL SET! This is my life! I am soo happy that this is less than 200 calories and VERY filling! I tried them this morning and they were VERY delicious! I could not taste the cottage cheese (I really don't like cottage cheese, and fat free cottage cheese is nasty!) but it was a great addition of protein. They didn't contain any baking powder so they were very dense, but still delicious! My little sister literally binged on them and my dad was upset that there weren't any more left! I wish that I wasn't a 19 year old college student in college without a kitchen in my own dorm room so that I could make these DAILY! :( Here's a tip! Add 1/4 tsp of baking powder to the recipe if you want them fluffy (I will try tomorrow and let you all know). Also, what I am doing tonight (since they were sooo good!) is adding all of the dry ingredients to a blender, and blend them well! So tomorrow (Sunday!!!) morning I will have the mixture ready (for me!) and I'll just add the egg beaters, cottage cheese, unsweetened almond breeze, and vanilla extract within seconds and cook them!!! DEFINETLY try this recipe!! |

Don't even bother counting the calories in the vegetables because there are too few of them! Just add the crust (210 calories) + the tomato pizza sauce (10). I would guess around 220-230 calories! Great choice! |

| Foods | oh my god. splenda has 4 calories per packet?! | Feb 25 2009 14:23 (UTC) |
11 |
SPLENDA DOES HAVE CALORIES! If there is 5 calories or less per serving in every packet, the FDA lets companies put 0 calories. However THERE ARE CALORIES IN SPLENDA! So do count each packet as 4 calories when you dump it all over the oatmeal. So whenever you buy diet soda, etc... and it says 0 calories per serving, it's really less than 5 calories but they are aloud to put it as ZERO. NOTE: the calories in artificial sweetners come from the "bulk" like dextrose, maltodextrin NOT Sucralose I love how the FDA actually lets them do that! For example: PAM non-stick spray actually has 7 calories per 1 second spray but they put on the label zero calories for 1/3 of a second spray because it's less than 5. It's all a little game. |

unsweetened cocoa powder is actually very healthy! It's rich in anti-oxidents, high in protein and fiber and 1 tbsp just has 11 calories! I make chocolate sauce by combining cocoa powder and evaporated milk to make a paste. I use dutch cocoa powder because it tastes less bitter. I add it to hot chocolate, and any kind of delicious fruit!
I always have 1 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder with 2 packets of splenda/equal and i add this to any kind of fruit! I love it with pineapple, etc... |

Nice! But I think the tortillas have 80 calories instead of just 50! So you may want to add 30 more calories to the 119 = 150! But still, it's a nutrtional bargain! |

Vegetables and Fruits - Buy frozen fruits and veggies (they are cheaper, healthier, and you don't have to worry about spoiling them!) - Only buy your fruits and veggies in season (right now, it's February and oranges, tangelos, and tangerines are in season! watch how inexpensive they are) - Bananas, and apples are relatively inexpensive year round Meat Don't eat meat! It's expensive! Buy the whole chicken, instead of boneless chicken breasts, etc... since they are so much more expensive! 1 pound of chicken is 99 cents vs. 6.99 a pound for the bonless chicken breasts! Instead, get your protein from: Cottage cheese, fat free yogurt, peanut butter, eggs, beans, and complex carbs! Only shop on sale and make your meals around what's on sale! |

| Foods | Cheapest Healthy Foods? | Jan 30 2009 23:16 (UTC) |
|
There are several websites on the cheapest foods. For example, one of the best ways to lose weight and keep healthy is to eat less meat because it's expensive. Instead, of having a burger with extra lean ground beef, buy some dry beans (they are cheaper than canned, and much healthier), cook them and mash them to make a bean burger. Then add, some slices of spinach (it's healthier and you get twice the amount of protein than lettuce) and tomato on a whole wheat bun. Better yet, try to make your own bread with just whole wheat flour (very cheap!) and water. Stop buying water. Instead, use tap water but cool it in the fridge so it tastes better :) Here are some healthy, cheap foods in a list: - Frozen and canned vegetables instead of fresh (they last longer and are much cheaper) - ONLY buy seasonal fruits. Google, "fruits and vegetables by season" and you should get some good sites about which fruits and veggies are in season so you get the best tasting and cheapest fruits! - Beans, Oats (VERY CHEAP!) don't buy instant oats but buy old fashioned oats in a container. - Bananas and apples are relatively cheap year round so you can buy them often - Potatoes, eggs, onions --> make a great, SPANISH OMELLETE! So delicious! |

I like to use balsamic vinegar of Modena (you can buy it at Costco wholesale) and just spray extra virgin olive oil with Misto. 1 second spray of olive oil with Misto is just 10 calories! Therefore, put in about 3 sprays and some vinegar and you've got a great natural dressing with only 30 calories! |

What about buying a thermo container and just basically bringing your leftovers from dinner from the day before? If I have salmond for dinner with brown rice, and I basically microwave it the next morning and put it in a thermo container for food and when its time for lunch its still very warm! I love the hungry girl "fried" fiber chicken with some diced fruit on the side! DELICIOUS! You can literally bring anything to work if you have a thermo! COnsider investing in one! |

I actually just got the Misto Olive oil spray and it says that 1 second spray is 1/4 tsp of olive oil which is 10 calories
Therefore, it is significantly less than pouring olive oil. I use it all the time when i put olive oil on bread! Here's the scoop: when you buy those 0 calorie sprays 1 second is actually 7 calories. Use the misto because it's healthier and much cheaper than buying PAM! |

I have tried PB2 and it's amazing! I can't believe it has only 50 calories per 2 tbsp!!! Make sure that when you mix it you have good tasting water though! Use Poland Spring or something good! I made the mistake of being at college and using their gross tab water to make it so it didn't taste as good. But yeah, I am NEVER eating real peanut butter EVER AGAIN thanks to Bell Plantation :) www.bellplantation.com go order some jars now seriously! And view my other posts about making a healthy pb and j sandwich lol |

| Foods | Arghh peanut butter and jelly | Dec 05 2008 21:57 (UTC) |
|
I love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches but I have found a great alternative to them that taste better than the classic thing! Here is my recipe: · & nbsp; 2 slices of 40-calories-per-slice bread – 80 calories · & nbsp; 2 tbsp of PB2 peanut butter – 53 calories · & nbsp; 3 tbsp of fresh raspberries – 12 calories · & nbsp; 1 packet of Equal or Splenda– 4 calories Total: 146 calories Instead of using raspberry jam, I use the real fruit and put it in my sandwich. Then, sprinkle some Splenda or equal and it taste way better than the sugar free jams (they are soo gross!) and 3 tbsp of fresh raspberries only have 12 calories and are delicious! Maybe even mash them a little bit if you want, but I like to eat them whole on my sandwich. I also like to grill it after I make it so it's nice and hot! AMAZING! |
