I read the article and agree with your opinion of it. It irritated me to no end. People don't need to be given permission not to exercise! Sure, intake is also an essential part of the equation, but the article seemed to be saying that people can't do both! I think intake (quality and quantity) is essential, but exercise plays an equal role. |

I have been limiting my calories to under 300 per meal for 6 consistent months now (5 meals a day) and I do physically feel stomach pain if I try to eat a bigger portion now. So I don't have any health studies I can site for you but I personally believe that my stomach has physically shrunk as an organ. |

Also I should note that I didn't eat ANY soy leading up to being diagnosed, so --no, soy didn't cause my thyroid to stop putting out. |

I have hypothryroidism (underactive thyroid) and I take medicine daily for it. According to some sources I should be avoiding soy all together. But most of the sources that are backed by medical studies say that if you are taking your medicine then you don't need to avoid soy. It could vary by the individual but I eat soy daily and it doesn't affect my blood tests, my thyroid levels have been stable for 12 months and counting. |

| Weight Loss | Analysis says I should only have 1200 cals per day? | Jun 14 2009 04:48 (UTC) |

How active are you? I am 4'10" and 185 lbs and calorie count set my limit at 1500. Per the advice of a personal trainer friend, I like to set the base for the day at 1200 and then "earn" the calories above that with exercise. (Ex. if I burn 300 calories in exercise I have "earned" my recommended 1500.) Good luck figuring out what's works for you -- but I do think that 1200 is definately not accurate for you. |

Whatever you do, DON'T try to induce with castor oil, that is AWFUL! It will just make you sick and dehydrated. It may work but it won't be a pleasant experience. I was induced with both of mine. But I liked the recommendation I got from my midwife of Evening Primrose oil capsules. This doesn't force labor, just encourages the natural process when your body is ready. http://www.maternitycorner.com/mcmag/articles /preg0007.html This is a great article and I hope you start or get your OB to induce soon! |

I also recently revamped my workout schedule to do it the Body For Life schedule. That calls for one complete rest day a week. I feel the same way about it you do! I may start doing a light stretching video on Sundays. |

I am doing Body For Life For Women and the book lists what you need for a home gym. Most important are the free weights (as already stated) and I am going to get a weight bench. An exercise ball and resistance bands may also come in handy. |

Here is my favorite recipe for sashimi at home: http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/takehomeche f/recipes/episode1106.html Make sure you get a quality cut of fresh or frozen ahi tuna at your grocer's meat counter. The above comment is right that the meat needs to be fresh but if you shop around it's not hard to find a good cut of fresh tuna steak. |

| Weight Loss | Question--Having trouble eating enough, but only by a little bit... | Mar 09 2009 19:59 (UTC) |

I think the big concern with eating under calories is that eventually your body will feel like it isn't getting enough and you will binge. Starvation mode can occur and slow down your metabolism but I don't think you are eating low enough for that. I am 195 and 4'10" and I take in around 1400-1600 calories a day. I try to earn anything above 1200 with exercise. I think for your height/weight difference that you are hitting the same mark as I do. Keep up the hard work on the elliptical, it will pay off! Try adding some resistance training too, it works wonders. |

Think how eating it will make you feel. Won't you feel much better saving it and eating it tomorrow when you have the calories set aside to afford it? |

I workout twice a day: morning and evening. I have a 14 m.o. I wait for his morning nap to do my morning aerobics. And then in the evening I have his Daddy take hime to bed while I do my calsthenics. I have a 4 y.o. and an 8 y.o. as well and they don't get in the way at all. Sometimes we go on walks and get our exercise together! Where there's a will there's a way! You can do it. |

"If I want to . . ." Before you give up, set a short term weight goal of 5 lbs. Then, when you get there, pay attention to how much more energy you have and any other perks you notice, or the only change maybe just the pride of having kept that promise. Hopefully this will fuel the next 5 lbs and soon it will be 10, then 15! I have read that when you are at the point of giving up, if you push yourself by saying "ok, just one more week and if I still want to give up then I will." But you have to commit to sticking that whole week out with no cheats. Just push yourself that one more week and then think it over again, if this is worth eating better and if this is a positive thing in your life. I have decided it is a road I want to continue down and I will keep brushing myself off and getting back on the weight loss train no matter how slow going it is. I want to keep chugging along. Good luck. :) |

Original Post by mamarose: I love what mamarose said! And I think she is right. Everytime you fall down you are gonna be stronger when you pick yourself up! I have hypothyroidism and have been on medication for over 2 years. Getting on the meds was a life saver. I think more clearly, I am able to motivate myself better, but it's still hard work to lose. My advice is to keep CC and lose slowly and just keep picking yourself up and moving forward! Good luck! |

I just hit a similar wall. A one half cup "treat" of Ben & Jerry's turned into eating almost the whole pint. Thats 1080 kcal right there. So the next day I was like "What's the point?" and I snacked on frosting by the spoonful. I picked myself up and did toning exercises yesterday and today will be walking it off. Lots of protien and low carb intake for 2 wks to cut out the sugar cravings. I have been doing too well to gain it all back in a rollercoaster of binges! Pick yourself up and keep going! Don't let the cookies defeat you. :) |
