Canucker,
I have been stuck on 185 for a month and half now. Same calories and exercise. If you find out something that works for me let me know.
UPDATE: wt 179.6
Well it's been about a month now and I finally got off my plateau. I have been eating 1600 calories and not really working out. I had extensive oral surgery, so not eating has not been a problem. Been drinking lots of protein shakes. Whereas I am happy to see the scale finally moving, I am concerned that I am losing muscle weight.
Hope all are well :)

Hi nutriwks - How is it going? Did you make any progress??
HI Okie,
Thanks for asking. I am still stuck on 185. As of 2 days ago (monday). I decided to try to eat only my BMR which is about 1615 calories and eat some more fat. Stay tuned. |

I'm not sure how much this will help given that my weight loss process has been erratic, inconsistent and constantly changing but here goes...
Height: 5'10"
8/1/08: 195 (SW)
9/23/08: 180
10/30/08: 175 (SW on Calorie Count)
1/16/09: 159
2/17/09: 157 (Plateau began here)
5/26/09: 145
So, as you can see I got stuck somewhere around mid-February. Up until that point I had been a faithful calorie zig-zagger aiming to average 1800. I spent a fair amount of time at the gym where I would do about 30 to 60 minutes of cardio and a minimum of 30 minutes of strength training five days a week. In March I made a big move and started a new job, so weight loss was put on the back burner beginning then. In April I made a concerted effort to start counting calories again. Since then I've averaged 1600 calories a day and have been running about 3 miles every day. For strength training, I've been doing pilates, lunges, tons of push ups, squats, etc. I've been fluctuating between 145 and 150, which is quite normal for me. Throughout the journey I've eliminated all soda and most processed foods. My goal weight is 140. Sorry for being long winded!!
Thank you soooo much!
It is so helpful to see someone else successful journey. It makes me want to continue and be patient. I had eliminated processed foods and soda years ago. I eat very healthy. It's always been about portions for me. There are weeks where I burn 5000 calories in one week, stick to 1800-1900 calories and still do not lose. But fortunately, I did lose some inches otherwise I think I would have felt defeated. I can definitely see going down to 1600 calories after losing so much weight since your body is smaller and needs less. I bought a food scale a few weeks ago to make sure I was eating the right number of calories. I have been stuck on 185, eating about average 1700-1800 calories, I fight the hunger I feel at times with warm beverages like tea or decaf tea. I really dont think I can possibly eat less calories, I would be way too hungry. At this point, I either have to eat more or less to get off this plateau. I may give it one more week.

Please help with this survey on Calorie intake. Perhaps this would help to make sure we are on the right track. As we all know it gets harder as the more we lose.
I would like hear from women at least 5 10 that sw around 185-200, preferrably around 185, weekly exercise hours and successful daily calorie intake.
I'll start.
5 11, cw 185 (stable for one month) (sw 198 in Jan 10 pounds lost in 2-3 months), at least 6 hours of exercise per week, 1700 calorie intake (no weight loss for a month however, many inches lost)

nutriwks - we do have very similar situations!
I've heard the meniscus tear is way harder to recover from than the ACL.
I'm trying to stick to 1500 cal per day because I don't have a scale or a great way to measure anything while at work so that way I figure if I'm off by 10-20% I'm still at 1800 or below. They say most of us underestimate our calories by that much.
When you do weight training, do you do whole body twice a week or upper/lower?
Zji8bek
Yep we will have to help each other out.
I don't want to whine but yeah it really sucked. My right knee was never the same. My left leg can workout everyday but the right one always cries. So I am limited by it. I do whole body twice per week (specifically it's called bodypump (www.bodypump.com). I started to do pilates, only did it twice so far but I like it. I hope it brings my body into balance, especially my legs. I also spin about twice per week...been doing it for years, great for knee problems, well at least mine. I also like Zumba..too much fun.
Well 1800 should be fine. It doesn't take expensive equipment. You can use measuring cups (found at any dollar store). I highly recommend keeping a food journal with times and calories of foods. You would be surprised how off you can be. I got a Escali Primo digital scale $25 on Amazon. It not only helps me keep my calories in track but it helps me make sure enough protein (which my food journal showed me I wasnt). It's also great for recipes.
I also like the weight tracking log provided by cc. I like how it shows the trend. I get a kick out of weighing myself everyday just to see the pattern, lol

Another new member here. I re-started my plan to change my eating/exercise habits on Monday. I'm 5'11'' with a current weight of 186 lbs. I was pretty consistently 175 from age 18 to 26 and then I tore my ACL and gained ten lbs and can't get rid of it. My goal weight is 165.
I also get frustrated with weight lifting and how it makes my legs bigger, but this is what I decided. Even if the muscle makes them bigger they are still more attractive, plus all that muscle will burn more calories making it easier to maintain my weight once I get where I want to be. I still don't understand how I can eat 1500 calories, burn 2400-2500 daily and gain weight, even if it is muscle.
HI. I know where you are coming from. We are the same height. Same current weight (185#). I was always around 175, for many years. Like you had a knee issue. I had a severe meniscus tear and gained a lot more weight after my surgery than you did..but eventually most of it came off. I want to get rid of 20 pounds but focusing on 10 and getting to 175 for now. I watch my calories very strictly using a food scale. I eat about 1700 to 1900 calories depending on the days activity..and losing about 1 pound per week. I think 1500 is too low. Consistency is key.
FYI I do weight training twice per week. (been doing it for about 3 months) I know I gained some muscle. I have a apple shape body so I see the results in my limbs. Where you have fat the most, which is my trunk, takes the longest to see the results.

HI! New here. I was thinking to start a tall weight loss club ..got so excited that there was one already. I am 5 11, 35 yo, weight 185, large frame, apple shape, did sports all of my life. The lowest I ever weighed was about 160. When up to about 195 a couple times, usually stay around 175 for the longest periods of time (years). I want to get back to 160 (or 175, with a much lower body fat percentage). I felt the best at 160, then again that was 10 years ago, lol I have always and still hit the gym. Usual for me is spin twice a week, zumba twice per week, tennis once per week, sometimes yoga once per week, and weight training (bodypump) 2-3 per week (just started that 2 months ago). My resting heart rate is about 59. Anyway, I lost about 10 pounds in the last couple of months and some inches .but considering how active I am, I thought I would have lost more by now. So I thought it was time to look at my calories. I have always been a healthy eater, only fruits, vegs, whole grains, white meat or fish (my cholesterol is always around 140, HDL 55, TG's 55). I obviously eat too much of a good thing. So mid April I got a food scale and started keeping a food journal and tracking my weight. I am looking forward to lose body fat and gaining muscle. I am excited to me others like me with the same struggles. It's been almost 2 weeks and I miss eating whatever I want...but taking it one day at a time :)
Oh I forgot to mention, yes I have knee issues too. I didnt know it was common in tall girls, I feel better now. And second is I am trying to stick to a 1700-1800 cal diet.
